  • Alvin Toffler mentioned that it is important for future society to keep pace with synchronization and that time deviations can hinder social development. As we experience the new normal era of untact, we have experienced an increase in non-face-to-face contact and accelerated digital transformation. Amid these rapid changes, we can maintain the need for synchronization or change in space. Therefore, we would like to study what kind of settlements people create and choose. We looked at the metaverse as an object that could indirectly find out about this, and used the content called "Animal Crossing" to collect data related to the spatial form of the metaverse. Sampling utilized a judgment sampling method during non-probability sampling to alleviate differences due to the progress of the game. The collected data was classified according to floor plan and location type and briefly organized through descriptive statistics. After matching each facility by use, data was constructed by setting coordinates for each cluster and listing them. This data was interpreted graphically on the coordinate plane for each cluster, and Euclidean analysis was performed to analyze the relationships between clusters and residential choice using a Euclidean matrix. As a result of the analysis, it could be interpreted that efficiency was pursued by arranging similar functions in close proximity. Nevertheless, when choosing a residence, it was interpreted that the intention was to create a community through arrangement adjacent to residents rather than efficiency or convenience. Due to the differences between the metaverse and the real world, it is expected that there will be limitations in equating it with reality. However, through the space expressed in the virtual world by people who are far away from the constraints of reality, we can indirectly know the wishes that we have not been able to express due to our lack of awareness.

  • The cracks in the tunnel are currently determined through visual inspections conducted by inspectors based on images acquired using tunnel imaging acquisition systems. This labor-intensive approach, relying on inspectors, has inherent limitations as it is subject to their subjective judgments. Recently research efforts have actively explored the use of deep learning to automatically detect tunnel cracks. However, most studies utilize public datasets or lack sufficient objectivity in the analysis process, making it challenging to apply them effectively in practical operations. In this study, we selected test datasets consisting of images in the same format as those obtained from the actual inspection system to perform an objective evaluation of deep learning models. Additionally, we introduced ensemble techniques to complement the strengths and weaknesses of the deep learning models, thereby improving the accuracy of crack detection. As a result, we achieved high recall rates of 80%, 88%, and 89% for cracks with sizes of 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm, and 0.5 mm, respectively, in the test images. In addition, the crack detection result of deep learning included numerous cracks that the inspector could not find. if cracks are detected with sufficient accuracy in a more objective evaluation by selecting images from other tunnels that were not used in this study, it is judged that deep learning will be able to be introduced to facility safety inspection.

  • In the case of apartment building, it is difficult to conduct non-destructive testing due to the actual presence of people and the dust and noise generated during the core test, so inspections are performed each time in the common area and underground parking lot, and the tests are conducted on the finishing material rather than on the concrete surface due to low-cost orders. As the process progresses, poor inspection is inevitable. In addition, the proposed formulas for strength estimation have large fluctuations depending on the differences in test conditions and environments, and even if they show the same measured value, the deviation between each proposed formula is large, making it difficult to accurately estimate strength, making it difficult to use. Accordingly, we would like to select finishing materials mainly used in apartment complexes and compare and evaluate the compressive strength of concrete according to the type of finishing material by using non-destructive testing methods directly on the finishing materials without removing the finishing materials. The reliability evaluation results of the estimated compressive strength of concrete using the ultrasonic velocity method according to the type of finishing material are as follows. The error rate between the estimated compressive strength and compressive strength derived through the ultrasonic velocity method shows a wide range of variation, ranging from 21.83% to 58.89%. The effect of the presence or absence of finishing materials on the estimated compressive strength was found to be insignificant. Accordingly, it is necessary to select more types of finishing materials and study ultrasonic velocity methods according to the presence or absence of finishing materials, and to study estimation techniques that can increase reliability.

  • In many countries, governments invest a substantial amount of budget in open government data (OGD) for governmental performance and transparency. To understand the actual performance of such policies, the governments should measure the realized value. Many organizations and researchers have attempted to assess the value of OGD. However, they have neglected a perspective of consumers who benefit from OGD. Moreover, little research has quantified the economic value. This research examines extant methods of intangible asset valuation to quantify the economic value of OGD in a citizen perspective. In consideration of the extant research methods and the characteristics of OGD, the contingent valuation method is the most appropriate because it effectively reflects various users and their purpose of use. We then conduct a survey of citizens living in Seoul, Korea and assess the economic value of OGD provided by the Seoul government. Findings show that citizens' willingness to pay (WTP) differs across respondents' prior experience, tax resistance, perceived benefit and perceived reality of virtual scenario, but it does not differ across their demographics. WTP also significantly varies across the question formats. We discuss the reliability of the results and implications for future research.

  • This study investigated the quality characteristics of low-fat chicken breast sausage with cauliflower powder to replace the fat. Cauliflower was freeze-dried and then ground into powder form. Sausagebatter was prepared separately according to the amount of fat and cauliflower powder added. 1) Control, sausage with 20% of pork fat, 2) LF, sausage with 3% of pork fat, 3) C0.5, sausage with 3% of pork fat and 0.5% of cauliflower powder, 4) C1.0, sausage with 3% of pork fat and 1.0% cauliflower powder. The prepared sausage batter was heated to a final internal temperature of 75℃. The pH of sausage batter increased with the addition of cauliflower powder (P<0.05). Storage loss and cooking loss increased in low-fat samples but decreased as the amount of cauliflower powder added increased (P<0.05). The hardness measured on the 30th day of storage decreased in LF but increased with the content of cauliflower powder (P<0.05). The redness and yellowness of the sausage increased with the addition of cauliflower powder. The malondialdehyde content of chicken breast sausages decreased at C0.5 and C1.0 on the 30th day of storage. The sausages with cauliflower powder received lower scores in sensory evaluation (P<0.05). Therefore, the addition of cauliflower powder to low-fat chicken breast sausage reduced overall sensory acceptability but improved water-holding capacity and oxidative stability.

  • In this study, we analyze the structure of the Korea-Japan Joint Development Zone (JDZ) using gravity, magnetic, and seismic data. Gravity and magnetic data analysis confirmed that the Jeju Basin exhibits low anomalies compared to adjacent areas. We applied the total gradient to the Bouguer anomaly to identify basin boundaries, and computed the analytic signal from the total magnetic anomaly data to enhance the edges of the magnetic anomalies. The Taiwan-Sinzi Belt, exhibits high magnetic anomalies and crosses the center of the JDZ in the northeast-southwest direction; we presume that intrusive rocks are sporadic in the JDZ. The 3D inversion results of the gravity and magnetic data show a strong correlation between magnetic susceptibility and density (i.e. a low-density zone in the Jeju Basin and the Ho Basin, and a high magnetic susceptibility distribution in the Taiwan-Sinzi Belt). Comparison of the density and seismic profiles of the Jeju Basin shows that high densities are associated with sill, horst, and basement highs, whereas low densities are associated with basement low and grabens. These results suggest that interpretations based on seismic, gravity and magnetic data can effectively reveal the subsurface structure of the JDZ.

  • Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) developed an satellite laser ranging (SLR) system for tracking space objects using ultra-pulsed lasers. For the safe operation of SLR system, aircraft surveillance radar system (ASRS) was developed to prevent human damage from high power laser transmitted from the SLR system. The ASRS consists of the radar hardware subsystem (RHS) and main control subsystem (MCS), in order to detect flying objects in the direction of laser propagation and then stop immediately the laser transmission. The RHS transmits the radio frequency (RF) pulse signals and receives the returned signals, while the MCS analyzes the characteristics of received signals and distinguishes the existence of flying objects. If the flying objects are determined to be existed, the MCS sends the command signal to the laser controller in SLR system to pause the laser firing. In this study, we address the interface and operational scenarios of ASRS, including the design of RHS and MCS. It was demonstrated in the aircraft experiments that the ASRS could detect an aircraft and then stop transmitting high power laser successfully.

  • Measuring and estimating methane (CH4) emissions accurately is important in rice paddy field. For reliable estimation, diurnal and seasonal variations of methane must be tracked, and measured frequently. The closed chamber method proposed according to the IPCC guidelines is relatively cheap and easy to move, so it is widely used, but it is difficult to estimate accurate methane emissions due to spatiotemporal constraints such as sampling time and number of measuring times. In this paper, the diurnal variation pattern was analyzed by measuring methane emissions four times at two-hour intervals throughout the day during the rice growth stage. When the emissions for each time period were converted to a daily time-weighted average, the diurnal average methane flux appeared in the time periods of 8:00~12:00 and 16:00~20:00. Through our results, we hope to provide useful information about determining reasonable times of methane measurement to researchers who measure methane emissions in rice paddy fields using the closed chamber method in the future.

  • The review of environmental impact assessment reports is a crucial process to ensure the expertise and objectivity of the content and procedures of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Since the amendment of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act in 1997, a single national research institute has independently and exclusively supported this role based on legal grounds. In 2021, in an effort to secure a more diverse range of review opinions, there was a movement towards decentralization and diversification of review institutions. However, concerns have been raised about the limitations in the independence and consistency of these review opinions. Meanwhile, with the introduction of OpenAI's ChatGPT in November 2022, the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has increased, becoming common in daily life, work, and research. This has led to discussions about the potential use of generative AI to leverage existing EIA review capabilities and ensure a balanced range of opinions from the recently decentralized and diversified institutions. This study aims to propose a pilot implementation and future methodological and institutional expansion of generative AI to support the review of environmental impact assessment reports. To achieve this, a generative AI system was initially developed and tested to support the review of content related to Health Impact Assessment within the EIA framework. The practical applications of this pilot system were documented. Additionally, by specifying the procedures, content, and stakeholders involved in the EIA review process, this paper suggests considerations for its expansion from both methodological and institutional perspectives.

  • This study explores the influence of parents socio-economic status on their adolescent children s internet use and learning conduct based on Korean Time Use Survey of 2014, under the assumption that parents socio-economic status can function as a mechanism for reproducing inter-generational inequality due to the difference of their children s internet use and learning conduct. Upon reviewing the weekdays average hours of using internet per day for the students from the age 13, the first year of a middle school to the age 18, the third year of a high school, they spend 15 minutes for information search, and 54 minutes for computer or mobile games. They tend to spend 211 minutes for study in the school, 56 minutes for after school study, and 88 minutes for self-study. According to Tobit regression analysis, the higher the students parents socio-economic status, the bigger the total hour for self-study and after school study. On the other hand, the lower the parents socio-economic status, the bigger the total hour for their adolescents internet or mobile game. The research shows that the lower the parents socio-economic status, the bigger the risk of their adolescent children s exposure to the addiction of the internet and mobile game. This implies that the parents socio-economic status can function to reproduce the inter-generational inequality. Based on the analysis result, this study discusses the practical and policy level implications in social welfare for improving the inequality reproducing mechanism.
