Secular Variations of Surface Water Temperature in Youngil Bay (영일만 해역 표면수온의 누년변화)

  • The periodic variations of the surface water temperature and the relationships between the surface water and air temperature are found in Youngil bay as follows: It is considered that the average surface water temperature is the lowest in February and the highest in August in the Youngil bay (Pohang bay and Janggi cape) from January, 1962 to December, 1981. It is only in October and November that the average surface water temperature was higher in pohang bay than in the Janggi cape from January, 1962 to December, 1981. Since the periodic secular variation in the vincity of Youngil bay and the variation of the Tsushima Current seem to have similar tendencies, we may conclude that the changes of the surface water temperature in Youngil bay are primarily influenced by the Taushima Current. The average temperature of surface water is 14.5$^{\circ}C$ in Pohang bay and 15.$0^{\circ}C$ in Janggi cape in the secular variation.

A Numerical Study on Aerodynamic Characteristics for Cyclic Motion Profile of Flapping Airfoil (Flapping Airfoil의 2차원 운동궤적에 따른 공력특성연구)

  • Aerodynamic characteristics for two-dimensional cyclic motion profile of flapping airfoil in low Reynolds number flows are investigated. Plunging motion and lead-lag motion in the two dimensional space with different plunging and lead-lag amplitudes are combined to cyclic motion profile and the flow around the airfoil is simulated. Present result shows that the improved aerodynamic efficiencies for a given flapping airfoil by adding periodic lead-lag motion of airfoil rather than the pure plunging case. The thrust coefficient and lift coefficient are compared with each cycle during the flapping period and aerodynamic characteristics are obtained on upstroke motion and downstroke motion.

한반도 부근의 강수 및 대기오염의 주기성

  • 본 연구에서는 2005~2007년 여름철(JJAS; 6~9월) 기간에 한반도 부근의 위성관측(TRMM) 및 지상관측(AWS) 강수량 그리고 대기오염 관측 자료를 이용하여 이들의 공간적 분포와 일주기 특성을 분석하였다. 이 기간에 AWS 평균 강수량은 전국적으로 약 5 mm/day 이었고, 제주도, 중부 내륙, 그리고 영 호남 경계 지역에서 9 mm/day 이상으로 많았다. PM10 (${\mu}g/m^3$) 미세먼지의 농도는 $27{\sim}57\;{\mu}g/m^3$ 이었고, 특히 수도권과 경남의 산업지역에서 $45\;{\mu}g/m^3$ 이상으로 높았다. 위성관측과 지상관측 강수량간의 상관(~0.8)은 매우 유의적이었다. AWS는 지점 관측이고 TRMM 관측은 면적평균임을 고려할 때, 위의 상관값은 상당히 높은 것으로 판단된다. 일주기 분석에서 미세먼지는 수도권 지역에서 오전에, 그리고 영남 지역에서는 오후 늦게 많이 발생하였다. AWS 강수량은 영동 및 경북 지역에서 이른 오전(2~8시)에, 이 지역 외에서는 오후 늦게(16~22시) 주로 발생하였다. 중부 지방의 강수 주기는 전선이 오후 3시부터 다음날 오전 4시까지 서해안에서 동해안으로 동진하는 형태를 잘 반영하였다.

Non-Destructive Examination of 3 Cycle Burned 14X14 PWR Fuel (3주기연소 14$\times$14 PWR 핵연료의 핫셀 비파괴시험)

  • In order to investigate the in-reactor performance of the 14$\times$14 PWR fuel burner: for 3 cycles in power reactor, non-destructive examination was carried out in KAERI Hot Facility. The results obtained are as follows. 1) The surface of middle and bottom parts of the fuel rod was dark and the upper part was gray. 2) Severe defect such as through-hole was not found. 3) The diameter of rod was shrinked by about 0.65%, while the length was increased by about 0.55% Compared with the design values. 4) The burnup was decreased by about 2% at the inconel grid region compared to other parts.

Analysis of Replacement Cycle by Eyeglasses Scratches in Daily Life (일상생활 속 안경렌즈 흠집에 의한 교체주기 분석)

  • This study were to investigate the scratches and replacement cycles of eyeglasses according to personal characteristics in daily life. The subjects were 58 people who voluntarily participated in this study. The replacement cycle of eyeglasses according to the contact of eyelashes with eyeglasses, type and the number of eyeglasses wiped on a day were analyzed. The statistical analysis were performed by X2 test and Fisher's exact test. The average replacement cycle of the eyeglasses were longer females than males. The eyeglasses replacement cycle were significantly shorter when the eyelashes contacted the eyeglasses and when the eyeglasses were wiped using a tissue or clothes other than the eyeglasses towel. The coating film of the eyeglasses may be damaged by the convergence effect such as eyelashes or minor carelessness in daily life, and this study will continue to follow up on this result.

Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Circular Cylinder with the Periodic Inlet Velocity (주기적인 입구 속도 변동에 따른 원관 주위 유동 및 열전달 특성)

  • In this study, the vorticity distribution and the temperature distribution change around a circular cylinder were compared and analyzed with time for constant inlet velocity and periodic inlet velocity. Also, the frequency characteristics of the flow were analyzed by analyzing the time variation of lift and drag and their PSD(power spectral density). In the case of constant inlet velocity, the well known Karman vorticity distribution was shown, and vortices were alternately generated at the upper and lower sides of the circular cylinder. In case of periodic inlet velocity, it was observed that vortex occurred simultaneously in the upper and lower sides of the circular cylinder. In both cases, it was confirmed that the time dependent temperature distribution changes almost the same behavior as the vorticity distribution. For the constant inlet velocity, the vortex flow frequency is 31.15 Hz, and for the periodic inlet velocity, the vortex flow frequency is equal to the preriodic inlet velocity at 15.57 Hz. The mean surface Nusselt number was 99.6 for the constant inlet velocity and 110.7 for the periodic inlet velocity, which showed 11.1% increase in surface heat transfer.

Java Garbage Collection for a Small Interactive System (소규모 대화형 시스템을 위한 자바 가비지 콜렉션)

  • Garbage collection in the CLDC typically employs a stop-the-world GC algorithm which is performing a complete garbage collection when needed. This technique is unsuitable for the interactive Java embedded system because this can lead to long and unpredictable delays. In this paper, We present a garbage collection algorithm which reduces the average delay time and supports the interactive environment. Our garbage collector is composed of the allocator and the collector. The allocator determines the allocation position of free-list according to object size, and the collector uses an incremental mark-sweep algorithm. The garbage collector is called periodically by the thread scheduling policy and the allocator allocates the objects of marked state during collection cycle. Also, we introduce a color toggle mechanism that changes the meaning of the bit patterns at the end of the collection cycle. We compared the performance of our implementation with stop-the-world mark-sweep GC. The experimental results show that our algorithm reduces the average delay time and that it provides uniformly low response times.

Heart Sound Recognition by Analysis of Block Integration and Statistical Variables (구간적분과 통계변수 분석에 의한 심음 인식)

  • Although phonocardiography by auscultation has been used in diagnosis long time ago, recognition of heart sound was tried only restricted fields such as the first heart sound, the second heart sound, and specific valve operation for the purpose of analyzing local function or operation of heart and developments of heart sound recognition in full cycle are quite insignificant. in this paper, we proposed a recognition method which extracts features of heart sound in full cycle and classllies heart sounds This proposed recognition algorithm is based on detecting the first and second heart sounds in thme domain. The algorithm classifics heart sound into several classes by extracting the important time blocks and analyzing the peak position, integration values and statistical variables. Heart sounds are classified into normal, early systolic murmur, late systolic mumur, early diastolic murmur, late diastolie murmur, continuous murmur. We can verify our algorithm is useful from the results which show the average recognition rate of heart sounds is 88 perecnt. Recognition error was occurred mainly in early systolic murmur.

Time Synchronization for WSN Nodes Operating on Low-Energy Sleep-Wake Cycles (저 에너지의 취침 기상 사이클로 작동하는 무선센서 네크워크 노드들을 위한 시간 동기화)

  • Previous low-energy time synchronization methods have mainly focused on reducing the number of transmission or reception packets. However, this paper proposes a method that reduces the percentage of time a node has to be awake (the duty cycle), assuming that a periodic sleep-wake cycle is used to conserve energy. Based on our experience with actual WSN devices, a system model is proposed, and the potential performance of the proposed method, with different parameter values, is analyzed. To further demonstrate the feasibility of our method, experiments were conducted using nine WSN devices in a $3{\times}3$ grid network topology. The results show the average synchronization error is 107.57 $\mu{s}$ in duty cycle 5% and synchronization period 10 sec, and 130 $\mu{s}$ in duty cycle 2.5% and synchronization period 20 sec.

A Travel Time Estimation Algorithm using Transit GPS Probe Data (Transit GPS Data를 이용한 링크통행시간 추정 알고리즘 개발)

  • The bus probe-based link travel times were more readily available due to bus' fixed route schedule and it was different from that of taxi-based one in its value for the same link. At the same time, the bus-based one showed less accurate information than the taxi-based link travel time, in terms of reliability expressed by 1-RMSE(%) measure. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a heuristic algorithm for mixing both sources-based link travel times. The algorithm used both real-time and historical profile travel times. Real-time source used 4 consecutive periods' average and historical source used average value of link travel time for various congestion levels. The algorithm was evaluated for Seoul urban arterial network 3 corridors and 20 links. The results based on the developed algorithm were superior than the mere fusion based link travel times and the reliability amounted up to 71.45%. Some limitation and future research agenda have also been discussed.
