A throughflow analysis program for axial flow turbines is constructed, which can handle not only the two-dimensional multi-streamline (streamline curvature) method but also the one-dimensional mean line method. Calculations are performed for single stage and multi-stage axial flowturbines. For a wide operating range, the performance and flow field calculated by the present streamline curvature method are close enough to the test data. It is also revealed for the single stage turbine that the present analysis leads to far better correspondence with the experiment than other researchers" throughflow analyses. A special focus is put on the comparison of the results between the streamline curvature analysis and the mean line analysis. It is found that the mean line analysis can not predict the performance for highly off-designed conditions as accurately as the streamline curvature method, which shows the importance of considering the spanwise variation of loss and flow.
Low NPSH and high pressure pumps we widely used for turbopump systems, which have an inducer and operate at high rotating speeds. In this paper, a meanline method has been established for the preliminary design and performance prediction of pumps having an inducer for cavitating or non-cavitating conditions at design or off-design points. The method was applied for the performance prediction of a fuel pump. Predicted performances by the method are shown to be in good agreement with experimental results for cavitating and non-cavitating conditions. The established meanline method can be used for the performance prediction and preliminary design of high speed pumps which have a inducer, impeller and volute.

This study presents the aerodynamic design and numerical analysis results on a transonic centrifugal compressor which is used for gas turbine systems. Mean-line analysis and quasi-3D analysis are used for the aerodynamic design, and Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis is applied to flow analysis of the compressor. The aerodynamic parameters for a transonic compressor, such as pressure coefficient, swirl parameter, blade loading, are discussed, and flow characteristics in the impeller and diffuser are discussed.
A general program of meanline design and/or performance prediction for centrifugal/mixed-flow compressors is successfully commercialized using various empirical loss models. 4 types of diffusers, 3 types of exit elements, shrouded/unshrouded impellers and real gas option are included in the program capabilities. Total 16 cases of benchmark test results proved its reliability to be effectively utilized in the development processes.
Low NPSH and high pressure pumps are widely used for turbopump systems, which have an inducer and operate at high rotating speeds In this paper, a meanline method has been established for the preliminary design and performance prediction of pumps having an inducer for cavitating or non-cavitating conditions and at design or off-design points. The method was applied for the performance prediction of a fuel pump, which had been developed by Hyundai Mobis in collaboration with KeRC for a liquid rocket engine. The engine uses liquid methane and liquid oxygen as working fluids and rotates at 50,000 rpm KeRC carried out a model testing of the fuel pump with water as a working fluid at the reduced speed (10,000 ${\~}$ 15,000 rpm). Predicted performances by the method are shown to be in good agreement with experimental results for cavitating and non-cavitating conditions. The established meanline method can be used for the performance prediction and preliminary design of high speed pumps which have a inducer, impeller and volute.

This paper describes aerodynamic preliminary design performance prediction and flow analysis for centrifugal compressor of the marine middle engine turbocharger. The performance characteristics of turbocharger compressor are investigated at various operating conditions using mass flow rate and revolution speed, and computational flow analysis for impeller and diffuser at design point are performed. Preliminary design results correspond to actual compressor geometric values comparatively by applying modified slip factor. Performance prediction and flow analysis results show good agreement with experiments. Therefore, this will provide the performance prediction in preliminary design, and help to increase the design capability for optimized impeller.

Boussinesq-type equations should be employed in which the water surface profile is considerably steep or the bottom topography is abruptly changed. The primary reason is that the pressure deviates significantly from the hydrostatic pressure distribution due to the large curvature of the stream lines. It is shown that such a Boussinesq type equation can be also derived by making use of the concept of the averaged flow description for specifying the turbulence effects. In addition, a numerical scheme is developed to solve the equations and the effects of the Boussinesq term is briefly investigated.
Hyper text transfer protocol (HTTP) over transmission control protocol (TCP) is currently used to transfer objects in the Internet. Stream control transmission protocol (SCTP), an alternative to TCP, which allows for independent delivery among streams, and can thus reduce the mean response delay of web object. We present an analytical model to find the mean response delay for HTTP over SCTP, therefore, estimate the effectiveness of SCTP over TCP. Typical TCP delay models assume the wired environment. On the contrary, the proposed model in this paper assumes the multiple packet losses and wireless environment where fast retransmission is not possible due to small window. The estimated mean response time can be used the benchmark to meet quality of service (QoS) at end-user. We validate the accuracy of our model using experiments. It is shown that the differences between the results from model and those from experimental are very small below 6 % on average. We also find that the mean response delay for HTTP over SCTP is less than that for HTTP over TCP.

The present study has tested semi-empirical loss models for a reliable performance prediction of mixed-flow pumps with four different specific speeds. In order to improve the predictive capabilities, this paper recommends a new internal loss model and a modified parasitic loss model. The prediction method presented here is also compared with that based on two-dimensional cascade theory. Predicted performance curves by the proposed set of loss models agree fairly well with experimental data for a variety of mixed-flow pumps in the normal operating range, but further studies considering 'droop-like' head performance characteristic due to flow reversal in mixed-flow impellers at low flow range near shut-off head are needed.
