  • This experiment was conducted to determine methane production and emission factors for a range of roughage diets fed to Hanwoo cows at a level of maintenance energy requirement. Seven cows were fed mixed hay only, 12 cows were fed mixed hay containing 30~50% rice straw and 6 cows were fed a mixed hay diet supplemented with 1.0 kg of wheat bran. Each cow was placed in a metabolic crate for 10 consecutive days, including last 7 days for sampling of feces and urine. At the end of the sampling period, the cows were transferred to an open-circuit respiration chamber for 24 consecutive hours. Methane conversion rate (5.5~6.2%, mean value = 5.8%) and emission factor (33.6~38.6 kg/head/year, mean value = 35.2) were not significantly affected by the diets although the mixed hay only diet resulted in 11 and 15% higher respective rates than the other two. However, in light of the many assumptions that forage with good quality might reduce methane production, additional experiments should be required for participation in the greenhouse gas emission trading system.

  • The distributional effects of radioactive materials on external gamma exposure have been analyzed. An approximate method for estimating external gamma dose given from an arbitrary distribution of radioactive material has been developed. The minimum gamma exposure given from a point source is shown at 0.07 MeV if the source to receptor distance is shorter than 10 m. But if the receptor to point source distance is longer than 20 m, gamma exposure rate increases monotonously according to the average gamma energy. For the analysis of the effects of volume source, we estimated the gamma dose given from different size of hemisphere in which radioactive materials are distributed uniformly. When the radius of hemisphere is longer than 40 m, external gamma dose rate increases monotonously. The gamma dose rate given from the radioactive materials deposited on the ground shows the minimum value at 0.07 MeV in any case. The analysis shows that external gamma exposure is strongly dependent on the distribution of radioactive materials in the environment and gamma energy.

  • A major barrier to the spread and vitalization of renewable energy lies in its economic infeasibility. And yet, there is a disparity in estimating the economic feasibility between supply and demand sides. Taking this into account, we calculate an appropriate level of mini-solar panel subsidies provided by the Seoul metropolitan government. More pointedly, this research investigates the receptivity and social equity of the subsidy program based on the analysis of the program's financial feasibility. The results show that the subsidies can have anticipated effects for the heavy electricity consumption group but not for the low electricity consumption group. Specifically, estimated pay-back periods for groups of 401kWh ~ 500kWh (per month) users, 201 kWh ~ 400kWh users and 101kWh ~ 200kWh were approximately 5years, 8 ~ 9 years and 12 years, respectively. This implies that differential scales of the subsidies can better contribute to reducing regressive difference between the groups and meeting the goal of social equity in regards to energy justice.

  • This study was intended to investigated the relationship between habitual physical activity, nutrients intakes and urinary riboflavin excretion of elderly women and to compare riboflavin biochemical status of urban elderly women with rural elderly women. While average daily riboflavin intake of elderly women subjects was below Recommended Dietary Allowances for Koreans, riboflavin biochemical status was adequate in terms of average urinary riboflavin excretion. Urinary riboflavin excretion did not show significant correlation with energy expenditure, physical activity level and riboflavin intake. Nutrients intakes of urban and rural elderly women were not significantly different. However, energy expenditure and physical activity level were significantly higher, urinary riboflavin excretion was significantly lower in rural than in urban elderly women. It is suggested that riboflavin biochemical status was influenced by physical activity.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this work was to investigate the dosimetric impact of mixed energy partial arc technique on prostate cancer VMAT. Materials and Methods: This study involved prostate only patients planned with 70Gy in 30 fractions to the planning target volume (PTV). Femoral heads, Bladder and Rectum were considered as oragan at risk (OARs). For this study, mixed energy partial arcs (MEPA) were generated with gantry angle set to 180°~230°, 310°~50° for 6MV arc and 130°~50°, 310°~230° for 15MV arc. Each arc set the avoidance sector which is gantry angle 230°~310°, 50°~130° at first arc and 50°~310° at second arc. After that, two plans were summed and were analyzed the dosimetry parameter of each structure such as Maximum dose, Mean dose, D2%, Homogeneity index (HI) and Conformity Index (CI) for PTV and Maximum dose, Mean dose, V70Gy, V50Gy, V30Gy, and V20Gy for OARs and Monitor Unit (MU) with 6MV 1 ARC, 6MV, 10MV, 15MV 2 ARC plan. Results: In MEPA, the maximum dose, mean dose and D2% were lower than 6MV 1 ARC plan(p<0.0005). However, the average difference of maximum dose was 0.24%, 0.39%, 0.60% (p<0.450, 0.321, 0.139) higher than 6MV, 10MV, 15MV 2 ARC plan, respectively and D2% was 0.42%, 0.49%, 0.59% (p<0.073, 0.087, 0.033) higher than compared plans. The average difference of mean dose was 0.09% lower than 10MV 2 ARC plan, but it is 0.27%, 0.12% (p<0.184, 0.521) higher than 6MV 2 ARC, 15MV 2 ARC plan, respectively. HI was 0.064±0.006 which is the lowest value (p<0.005, 0.357, 0.273, 0.801) among the all plans. For CI, there was no significant differences which were 1.12±0.038 in MEPA, 1.12±0.036, 1.11±0.024, 1.11±0.030, 1.12±0.027 in 6MV 1 ARC, 6MV, 10MV, 15MV 2 ARC, respectively. MEPA produced significantly lower rectum dose. Especially, V70Gy, V50Gy, V30Gy, V20Gy were 3.40, 16.79, 37.86, 48.09 that were lower than other plans. For bladder dose, V30Gy, V20Gy were lower than other plans. However, the mean dose of both femoral head were 9.69±2.93, 9.88±2.5 which were 2.8Gy~3.28Gy higher than other plans. The mean MU of MEPA were 19.53% lower than 6MV 1 ARC, 5.7% lower than 10MV 2 ARC respectively. Conclusion: This study for prostate radiotherapy demonstrated that a choice of MEPA VMAT has the potential to minimize doses to OARs and improve homogeneity to PTV at the expense of a moderate increase in maximum and mean dose to the femoral heads.

  • Sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks operate in distributed environments with limited resources and sensing capabilities. Especially, a sensor node has a small energy. After the sensor nodes are distributed in some area, it is not accessible to the area. AIso, a battery of sensor node cannot change. One of the hot issues in wireless sensor networks maximizes the network lifetime through minimizing the energy dissipation of sensor nodes. In LEACH, the cluster head is elected based on a kind of probability method without considering remaining energy of sensor node. In this paper, we propose a cluster formation scheme that the network elect the node, which has higher energy level than average energy level of overall sensor network, as cluster head node. We show the superiority of our scheme through computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a RF energy harvesting based routing protocol in mobile ad-hoc wireless sensor networks. The main features and contributions of the proposed routing protocol are as follows. First, establishment of routing route based on both remaining energy of mobile sensor nodes and RF energy harvesting. Second, establishment of routing route by considering availability and stability of route based on energy of mobile sensor nodes to increase lifetime of networks and route. The performance evaluation of the proposed routing protocol using OPNET shows that the routing method considering both route availability and route stability based on RF energy harvesting can increase efficiently route lifetime.

  • In spite of many advantages such as the simplicity in test procedure, Standard Penetration Test(SPT) results contain some errors caused by the variability of test equipment, instruments and test procedures. Especially, it is inevitable that the measured SPT hammer energy is different from the theoretical value because of energy loss. In this paper, the hammer energy level is measured during the performance of the field SPT in Korea by using a ultra-sonic system and PC.program. As the results of this study, the average hammer energy ratio of the R-P hammer and the Trip hammer is calculated at 64.2%, and at 75.0% respectively. The average energy ratio of the SPT for the R-P hammer is calculated at 46% and at 54% for the Trip hammer, by applying the rod energy ratio 0.72.
