A Study on the Gurodae, archiectural member recorded on Yeonggeonuigwes and Sanleunguigwes (영건의궤 및 산릉의궤에 기록된 건축부재 구로대에 관한 연구)

  • This thesis mainly deals with what is th Gurodae, recorded of the YeonggeonUigwe and the SanleungUigwe. Gurodae makes diverse appearance In Uigwes.(久老代, 仇老代, 求路代, 仇老臺, 仇露臺, 求露臺, 仇累臺, 九累臺) It seems that Gurdae was an architectural member used on the roof. Especially that was a member of the eaves. Gurodae looks like a Pyeonggodae, located on the end of the rafters. But it differs in the shape compare to that of Pyeonggodae, Gurodae has the shape of combined members, Pyeonggoaed and Chakgo. Chakgo is a member covering the spae, between two Buyeons So Gurodae has the shape of prominence and depression. The result obtained by surveying the Uigwes is the Gurodae is the Gurodae used until 1789. After the publication of HyeonlyungwonUigwe in 1789, that member was no longer existed on the other Uigwes. In 1794, the making Hwaseong fortress, Gurodae divieed into two members, Chopyeonggodae and Chakgo. Since then Chopyeonggodae and Chakgo never combined again.

  • Geomancy (feng-shui in Chinese and Pungsu in Korean) has had a significant impact on the Korean culture and is still practiced by many Koreans. This art is thought to have originated from the early Chinese people's search for an ideal site for preparing a cave dwelling. Ever since geomancy was introduced to Korea, it has been a crucial factor in the development of the Korean cultural landscape and the Korean geomentality. The current tendency of avoiding research into geomancy by the Korean geographers might have developed from their desire to avoid wrongly labeling themselves as geomancers and their discipline as geomancy studies. The geographer\`s aim of studying geomancy is not to prove the truthfulness of geomantic doctrines, but is to document and explain the impact of geomancy on the Korean culture.

  • Pan-jang(板墻) has become the lost facility, and the examples of its original form can be found no more due to its variable material characteristics. In order to study panjang as a lost facility, the following are needed: - To bring to light its usage and examples. - To investigate its components and structure. Panjang refers to the wall made of wooden plate and is classified as a special wall according to its material characteristics. In addition, Chinese mokyeongbyuk(木影壁) and Japanese panbyeong(板?) are similar to Korean panjang in terms of the materials, but there are clear differences in their structures. Panjang was also transformed into various types according to their materials or forms. As the wooden elements of panjang, sinbang(信防), pillars, do-ri(道里), jungbang(中枋), inbang(引枋), parn(板), dae(帶), choyeop(草葉), bangyeon(方椽), gaeparn(蓋板), pyeonggodae(平高臺), and yeonharm(椽檻) were selectively used, and they are similar, in particular, to the components of ilgakmoon(一角門). The stylobate of panjang is largely classified into three according to the kinds and structures of the wooden elements; and its frame into two according to whether sanginbang(上引枋) is used or not. The materials for the roof area include planks(蓋板) and tiles and have the distinct structural differences according to each material.

  • The purpose of this study is to search for the main content system and Confucian meaning of "Yu Shu;虞書" of "The Book of Documents; 書經". This research covers two things: first, the form of The Book of Documents and the main content system of "Yu Shu". The Book of Documents consists of 4 main dynasties' Shu in ancient chinese history; "Yu Shu" 5 chapters, "Xia Shu; 夏書" 4 chapters, "Shang Shu; 商書" 17 chapters, and "Zhou Shu; 周書" 32 chapters, for a total 58 chapters. This book is organized in the form of six formalities(六體) or ten examples(十例). Second, the Confucian value of The Book of Documents and philosophical meaning of Yu Shu. Yu Shu shows a benign rule(仁政), confucianism ideal politic, as an historic example of a benevolent administration. By this research, we recognize that the tradition of abdication in the confucian society and the way of selecting people are theoretical foundation of politics based on people, rule by virtue and, by extension, a dynastic revolution. In addition, governing a country and rule the world that is treated in Yu Shu are a theory of leadership and moral training as a background of "Da Xue"(大學; Great Learning). Furthermore, Xiao(孝;filial piety) emphasized on this book is the main virtue of leaders and core value of practical action among the human relation. by extension, we recognize that the "Yu Shu" is the origin of "Xiao Jing; 孝經".
