The purpose of this study is to examine the quality of the UNICAT which builded by KERIS. For the purpose, this study developed three evaluation criteria: searching, customer support, ease of use. The study are examined opinions of librarians in charge of technical services about UNICAT. The result of this study is expected to improve the quality of the UNICAT.

This study investigated organizational changes in technical services of university libraries and analysed librarians' perception on the changes of technical service department by the survey to 32 technical service librarians. It also identified several factors that have changed work environment of technical departments such as the shared cataloging and outsourcing, and electronic resources in various formats and creation of metadata for these resources. Most librarians agreed that university libraries have to foster technical librarians' professioanal development to cope with emerging changes of technical services. They also recognized that the integration of traditional cataloging and metadata management is an important issue of orgranizational changes. Contrary to librarians' perception, technical service librarians were not fully awared of the procedure of metadata related works in other departments. Furthermore metadata creation and management were also conducted in several departments of libraries without proper control.

This study aims to investigate and analyse the present of state and matters of technical services outsourcing in academic libraries. For the purpose summarized methods for outsourcing from reports and papers, suggested principal outline of outsourcing and developed quality control program of catalog. This study also surveyed several academic libraries in outsourcing and analyzed features and related issues of the operation of outsourcing. The results of this study can be refereed to the plan and implementation of technical services outsourcing in the future.

This study intends to make a comprehensive inquiry into the meaning and limitations of Folksonomy, and to explore how to make full use of Folksonomy in library cataloging. To this end, this study examined as follows : (1) how the philosophical meaning of Folksonomy is different from traditional principles of library cataloging, (2) what the viewpoint of LIS scholars toward Folksonomy are, and how North American libraries have customized Folksonomy for their catalogs. In addition, (3) usefulness of Folksonomy in library catalogs is thoroughly discussed. Based on these, (4) the final discussion includes strategies for Korean LIS scholars and library practitioners to consider when applying Folksonomy to Korea library contexts.

The aim of this study is to evaluate quality of the bibliographic records for DVDs owned by the domestic university libraries and to suggest how to improve the problems as a result of the evaluation. In order to conduct this study, the previous studies related to the topic were analyzed, and then, four regions of quality evaluation standard including accuracy of inputting, observance of regulations related to cataloging, perfection of expressions and consistency of structure were established. And the quality evaluation was made on total 100 records of the lists for DVDs from 10 university libraries. As a result, several types of errors were discovered in the quality evaluation and some solutions were suggested to improve quality of cataloging records for DVDs by interviewing with catalogers in the domestic university libraries.

LCMARC과 USMARC을 거쳐, 새로이 태어난 MARC 21의 최신 내용을 알기 쉽게 정리하고 있어, MARC에 대한 기본적인 이해에 많은 도움이 될 것이다. 아울러 MARC에 관련된 업무는 물론 일반 편목 업무의 적지 않은 관례들이 왜곡되어 있는 측면이 없지 않은 한국 도서관계의 현실에서는 우리가 나아가야 할 방향을 다시 한번 생각해 볼 수 있는 좋은 기회를 제공해 주는 유익한 자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.

This study intends to make a comprehensive investigation on the present stage of library catalogs in Korea. To the end, this study analyzed the utility of the library catalog from both librarians' and end-user's viewpoint. Emphasis was on analyzing the different viewpoints between these two groups and on verifying the problems of library catalogs in such a rapidly changing information environments. The result of this study is expected to be useful in preparing both strategies and methods to enhance the utility of library catalogs.

This study intends to discuss Korea's LIS education focused on the field of 'information organization' in detail. Emphasis was on analyzing the current curriculum in Korea's LIS school and on discussing facing problems and new directions in the education of the field. To the end, this study collected and examined exhaustively the course contents and instruction of the related courses in 32 Korea's LIS schools, and the research papers related to LIS education, especially information organization's education. In addition, American LIS education was analyzed to compare with Korea's. In conclusion, this study suggested that the LIS school education should emerged from excessive emphasis on practical skills and concentrate on the philosophy, principles and the implicit values of information organization.

During forthcoming age it shows more important reorganization that artificial intelligence and expert system improves information professional in reference service, cataloging, classification, information retrieval, and documentation delivery 5. According to library and information science professors more important reorganization on the subject of AI and ES, the curricular on AI and ES is, forthcoming, to be Introduced to curricular on library and information science in the nation, In order of importance, (see 1. above).
