  • 최근 정보통신 산업의 급속한 성장으로 평판 표시소자의 개발에 많은 관심이 모아지고 있다. 특히 이 중에서 액정 표시소자(LCD)의 수요는 급증하고 있으며 그에 관련된 부품 및 소재의 중요성 또한 강조되고 있다. LCD 부품 및 소재에서 가장 중요한 역할을 하는 편광필름은 일반적으로 PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) 또는 polyene 구조를 갖는 고분자 필름에 요오드를 염착시켜 사용되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 PVA Film에 저온 플라즈마 처리를 함으로서 편광도와 투과도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대해 알아보고자 한다. (중략)

  • In this study, cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) was synthesized and applied as a polarizing component on the optical film of back light units (BLU) for LCDs. After mixing CLC with nematic liquid crystal, this mixture was fulfilled in the module consisting of two films and then its amplifying efficiency and polarizing ability for a planarly emitted light were examined to apply as a BLU polarizer film for increasing the brightness of light. The properties of CLC compound were tested by UV/Visible spectroscopy and polarizing optical microscopy (POM). Flexible spacer was made by linear carboxylic acid group of cholesteric derivatives between cholesterol mesogen units for one-axis orientation in each layer. The CLC containing film could be used as a module to increase the ability of polarization and to enhance brightness of BLU and to widen wavelength range by stacking the films.

  • PVA필름은 휴대폰, 카메라폰, 컴퓨터모니터, LCD TV등 편광필름이 사용되는 TFT-LCD 제품에는 반드시 필요한 핵심부품으로, 최근 인조대리석 제조용 필름, 분리필름, 내(耐)산소투과성 포장필름 등에도 활용범위를 넓혀가고 있는 신소재이다. 그러나 PVA필름은 일본이 PVA특성조절기술을 갖고 있어 그동안 일본에서 전량 수입해 사용해 온 것이 현실. 지난 1990년 설립된 이래, 국내 최초로 순수국내 기술로 고온수용성 부직포를 개발하며, 생산해 온 (주)텍스테크(대표이사 신재균)가 폐 부직포를 재활용해 LCD용 폴리비닐알코올(PVA) 필름을 제조하는 기술을 개발, 업계의 주목을 끌고 있다. 신재균 사장을 만나 폐부직포를 이용한 PVA 필름제조 기술개발 경위와 기대효과를 들어보았다.

Effect of Poly(vinyl alcohol) Adhesives on the Dimensional Stability of LCD Polarizer (폴리(비닐 알코올) 접착제가 LCD 편광판의 치수안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • Dimensional stability of LCD polarization film consisted of triacetyl cellulose (TAC) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) film has been studied and especially, the effect of PVA adhesive on the dimensional stability has been considered as function of deacetylation and molecular weight of PVA adhesive. The maximum adhesion strength between TAC and PVA film was obtained in the laminate using PVA adhesive with 70% of OH content and the effect of molecular weight on the adhesion strength was only pronounced in the laminate using PVA adhesive with OH content above 70%. It was found that the optimum dimensional stability of TAC/PVA/TAC laminate (polarizing film) was obtained when applied PVA adhesive has low molecular weight and it was more dependent upon the OH content than the adhesion strength between TAC and PVA films.

A Study on the Electron Beam Crosslinking of Acrylic Pressure Sensitive Adhesives for Polarizer Film (전자선 조사를 통한 편광필름용 아크릴계 고분자의 가교화 반응에 대한 연구)

  • New pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) for polarizer film were prepared by electron beam (e-beam) radiation to acrylic copolymers, and their adhesive properties were investigated. The acrylic copolymers were synthesized by free radical polymerization of $n$-butylacrylate (BA), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and acrylic acid (AA). The acrylic copolymers were coated on PET release films to a thickness of 25 ${\mu}m$, laminated to polarizer films, and then radiated with e-beam at room temperature. Gel fractions of all the acrylic copolymers after e-beam radiation at 50 kGy were higher than 93%, and their crosslinking densities were increased with increasing the content of HEMA units. PSA prepared by e-beam radiation of acrylic copolymer synthesized with a feed ratio of BA/HEMA/AA = 89.5/10/0.5 (w/w/w) at a dose of 50 kGy exhibited the best adhesion performances in terms of peel strength, creep resistance, durability and reliability, and light leakage. It is expected that the preparation method of PSAs via e-beam irradiation will improve the producibility and workability of polarizer film for liquid crystal display.

  • In this paper, we propose an effective method to extract background components in automated vision inspection system for polarized film used in TFT LCD display panels. The test image signals are typically composed of three components such as ununiform background, random noises and target defect signals. It is important to analyze the background signal for accurate extraction of defect components. Two dimensional continuous wavelets with first derivative gaussian is used. This methods can be applied for reliable extraction of defect signal by elimination of the background signal from the original image. The proposed method outperforms over conventional FFT methods.

  • 여러 광기록 매질 중 아조(azo)계열의 색소를 첨가한 고분자 필름은 색소의 선택에 따라 원하는 감광 파장대를 선택할 수 있는 특징과 뛰어난 메모리 휘발성, 편광 선택이 가능한 점, 높은 환경적 안정성 때문에 1986년 Todorow 그룹이 아조색소를 함유한 고분자 필름의 광유도 비등방성에 관한 논문을 발표한 이래 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 아조계열 색소분자는 PVA 고분자 매트릭스(matrix)속에서 trans 혹은 cis이성질체 중 하나의 상태로 존재할 수 있으나 trans 상태는 cis 상태보다 안정한 상태이므로 광이 없을 때는 대부분 trans 상태로 존재하게 된다.   • In the mixed system of supercritical carbon dioxide/organic solvents, poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) film of high degree of hydrolysis could be dyed with a dichroic dye of C. I. direct black 22(DB22) and as a result, high durability was obtained. Especially, as a dye dispersant in a supercritical fluid phase, a mixed solvent system of ethylene glycol: dimethyl sulfoxide=4 : 6 weight ratio was investigated. Then the optimum pressure for dyeing could be reduced down to 200 bar. Using this supercritical fluid system, the maximum dyeing appeared as the transmittance of less than 1% and the waste amount was reduced to the level of 1/10. After 500% drawing of this PVA film, both the polarizing efficiency of 94% and the single piece transmittance of 30% were obtained. The limitation of DB22 and further improvements were also discussed.
