  • Langmur-Blodgett (LB) method has a unique characteristic of making molecularly mutilayered aggregation structures. LB method makes the thickness of organic insulation layer controllable at molecular scale in various electronic devices. In this study, the organic materials applicable to crosslinked LB insulation layers of electronic devices have developed and the electrical properties of their LB films have examined such as Brewster angle microscopy(BAM), Scanning Maxwell-stress microscopy(SMM), and Current-voltage(1-V) properties.

  • 2-Biphenylyl acrylate(BPA) was synthesized by the reaction of acryloyl chloride with 2-phenylphenol (2PP). Hydrophilic copolymers with the moiety of the microbicide, 2PP, were prepared by the radical copolymerization of BPA and methacrylic acid (MA). From the compositions of the BPA unit and the MA unit in the copolymers, the monomer reactivity ratios were determined to be 0.86 for BPA and 1.21 for MA by means of Kelen-Tudos plot. This result indicates that the copolymers have a random structure. The amount of 2PP released through the hydrolysis of the copolymers was examined by UV spectrometry. The result showed that the release of 2PP increased with an increase in the hydrophilic MA content in the copolymers and with an increase in the pH of the release medium. Therefore, these results indicate that the hydrophilic polymers bearing 2-phenylphenol moiety can be controlled release microbicides.

DSC and FTIR Studies of Miscible Poly(butylene 2,6-naphthalate)/Poly(4-vinylphenol) Blends (DSC와 FTIR을 이용한 상용성 (폴리부틸렌나프탈레이트/폴리비닐페놀) 블렌드의 연구)

  • Thermodynamic miscibility of the binary blends composed of semi-crystalline poly (butylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PBN) and amorphous poly (4-vinylphenol) (PVPh) was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. DSC scan results showed that there was a single glass transition temperature (T$\_$g/) for each blend. Crystalline melting temperature (T$\_$m/) depression of the PBN in the blends was also observed with the increase of PVPh content. Both results of the single T$\_$g/ and the depression of T$\_$m/ for the PBN/PVPh blends indicate that the blends are thermodynamically miscible at the molecular level. FTIR spectroscopic analysis confirmed that strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions between the ester carbonyl groups of the PBN and the hydroxyl groups of the PVPh are occurred.

  • Crosslinked LB films of p-HP (p-hexadecoxyphenol) were produced to insulation layers of electronic devices. The fabrication and the electrical properties of LB films according to crosslinking have investigated respectively to Brewster angle microscopy (BAM), Scanning Maxwell-stress microscopy (SMM), current-voltage (I-V) properties and frequency-capacitance (C-F) characteristics. According to crosslinking, conductivity of p-HP LB films have improved and relative dielectric constant have reduced.

  • We have fabricated insulating thin films using p-hexadecoxyphenol(p-Hp) that was formed phenol-formaldehyde resin of crosslinked structure from reaction with formaldehyde by LB technique. For fabricated MIM device, the possibility for insulating layers of electronic were investigated by electrical properties of their LB films according to crosslinking of LB films current-voltage (I-V) properties and frequency-capacitance (C-F) characteristics. We have provided evidence for the high insulating performance of phenol-formaldehyde thin films by the LB method. Conductivity of their LB films was as follows: pure water > 1 % aq. Formaldehyde > heat treatment, in the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics. It is demonstrated that insulation properties of crosslinked p-HP LB films were improved. In capacitance-frequency properties, the heat-treated p-HP LB films for crosslinking showed a low relative dielectric constant.

Effect of Phenolic Antioxidants System on Yellowing of Amorphous Poly-α-olefin (페놀계 산화방지제에 의한 비결정성 올레핀 수지의 황변 거동)

  • Phenolic antioxidants are effective stabilizers that provide excellent long-term heat stability by preventing thermo-oxidative degradation during processing and service life. However, under a selected set of circumstances, certain types of phenolics have been susceptible to discoloration due to prolonged storage in an environment containing oxides of nitrogen. It is investigated that the effect of addition of secondary antioxidant and chemical structure of primary antioxidant on discoloration of amorphous poly-${\alpha}$-olefin (APAO), which is especially prone to be decomposed in high processing temperature. From the result, it is concluded that a higher level of steric hindrance of phenolic antioxidant provided by long alkyl chain allows a more enhanced synergic effect with secondary antioxidant.

A Study on Extraction and Adsorption of Three Phenolic Ketones (페놀케톤 3종의 추출 및 흡착에 관한 연구)

  • The extraction and adsorption characteristics for three phenolic ketones with high physicochemical similarity among phenolic compounds, which are alcohol fermentation inhibitors in lignocellulosic biomass hydrolysates, were investigated. The most suitable basic extractant for selectively separating acetosyringone from three phenol ketones by reactive extraction was found to be trioctylphosphine oxide. In addition, it was found that adsorption using XAD16, a polymer neutral resin adsorbent, or physical extraction using hexane, was a suitable separation method for separation of 4'-hydroxyacetophenone (HAP) and acetovanillone (AVO). A five-step fractionation process including extraction and adsorption mentioned above has been first proposed to separate and concentrate the three phenol ketones present at equal mass percentages. When physical extraction with n-hexane and re-extraction with an aqueous NaOH solution were used as the steps 4 and 5 in the fractionation process respectively, it was possible to obtain almost 70% or more of the purity of three phenolic ketones.

초음파 진동소자용 Fe-Co-Ge계 합금 복합체의 자기변형 특성 및 WC 첨가 효과

  • 평균 입도가 $100{\mu}m$$Fe_{36}Co_{62}Ge_2$ 합금 분말과 $10wt\%$의 페놀계 고분자 바인더, 그리고 평균 입도가 $1.36{\mu}m$인 WC 분말을 SPEX Mixer/Mill에 넣고 8시간동안 혼합한 후 $150^{\circ}C$에서 Warm press를 이용하여 0.9 ton 의 압력으로 2시간 동안 유지하였다. VSM을 사용하여 자기적 특성을 조사한 결과 WC의 첨가량이 증가할수록 포화자화값(Ms)는 $174\~128\;emu/g$로 감소하였다. 또한 스트레인게이지를 이용하여 자기변형을 측정하였다. WC의 분포를 알아보기 위해 전자현미경으로 복합체의 단면을 관찰하였다. WC의 함량이 $10\~30wt\%$로 증가할수록 밀도와 영률(Young's Modulus) 값이 각각 $5.15\~6.27\;g/cc,\;43.5\~93.6\;GPa$ 로 증가하였다. 특히 영률은 WC를 $30wt\%$로 첨가하였을 때의 값이 첨가하지 않았을 때보다 2배 이상 증가하였다. 그러나 비자성상의 첨가로 희석효과가 나타났으며 길이 방향으로의 자기변형값$(\lambda_{ll})$$d_{33}$의 경우 각각 $18\%$$20\%$ 정도가 감소되었다. 이러한 기계적 특성의 향상은 길이 10mm의 자기변형 복합체의 공진 주파수를 71 kHz 증가시키게 되며, 따라서 초음파 진동소자용으로서의 상업적 활용범위를 증가 가능성을 제시하였다.

  • Tannic acid is one of the most commonly found polyphenols in the vegetable field. Initially, research on tannins concentrated on physiological functions such as antioxidants. Recently, however, tannic acid has attracted much interest as a molecular glue as it has been found to interact virtually all bio-macromolecules such as proteins and DNA. The various properties of tannic acid are expected to control the wettability of the surface, contribute to energy storage and generation, and show potential as a medical agent. Here, tannic acid will be discussed about the interaction of with bio-macromolecules as a molecular glue, surface modification, and utilization of itself as biomaterials.
