  • In fuzzy modeling for nonlinear process, typically using the given data, the fuzzy rules are formed by the input variables and the space division by selecting the input variable and dividing the input space for each input variables. The premise part of the fuzzy rule is identified by selection of the input variables, the number of space division and membership functions and the consequent part of the fuzzy rule is identified by polynomial functions in the form of simplified and linear inference. In general, formation of fuzzy rules for nonlinear processes using the given data have the problem that the number of fuzzy rules exponentially increases. To solve this problem complex nonlinear process can be modeled by separately forming the fuzzy rules by means of fuzzy division of each input space. Therefore, this paper utilizes individual input space to generate fuzzy rules. The premise parameters of the fuzzy rules are identified by Min-Max method using the minimum and maximum values of input data set and membership functions are used as a series of triangular, gaussian-like, trapezoid-type membership functions. And lastly, using the data which is widely used in nonlinear process we evaluate the performance and the system characteristics.

To solve this problem, complex nonlinear process can be modeled by generating the fuzzy rules by means of fuzzy division of input space. Therefore, in this paper, rules of non-fuzzy inference systems are generated by partitioning the input space in the scatter form using HCM clustering algorithm. The premise parameters of the rules are determined by membership matrix by means of HCM clustering algorithm. The consequence part of the rules is represented in the form of polynomial functions and the consequence parameters of each rule are identified by the standard least-squares method. And lastly, we evaluate the performance and the nonlinear characteristics using the data widely used in nonlinear process. Through this experiment, we showed that high-dimensional nonlinear systems can be modeled by a very small number of rules.

  • In this study, an approach of image fusion in decision level has been proposed for unsupervised image classification using the images acquired from multiple sensors with different characteristics. The proposed method applies separately for each sensor the unsupervised image classification scheme based on spatial region growing segmentation, which makes use of hierarchical clustering, and computes iteratively the maximum likelihood estimates of fuzzy class vectors for the segmented regions by EM(expected maximization) algorithm. The fuzzy class vector is considered as an indicator vector whose elements represent the probabilities that the region belongs to the classes existed. Then, it combines the classification results of each sensor using the fuzzy class vectors. This approach does not require such a high precision in spatial coregistration between the images of different sensors as the image fusion scheme of pixel level does. In this study, the proposed method has been applied to multispectral SPOT and AIRSAR data observed over north-eastern area of Jeollabuk-do, and the experimental results show that it provides more correct information for the classification than the scheme using an augmented vector technique, which is the most conventional approach of image fusion in pixel level.

  • Image segmentation is one of the important processes in the image information extraction for computer vision systems. The fuzzy clustering methods have been extensively used in the image segmentation because it extracts feature information of the region. Most of fuzzy clustering methods have used the Fuzzy C-means(FCM) algorithm. This algorithm can be misclassified about the different size of cluster because the degree of membership depends on highly the distance between data and the centroids of the clusters. This paper proposes a fuzzy clustering algorithm using the Average Intracluster Distance that classifies data uniformly without regard to the size of data sets. The Average Intracluster Distance takes an average of the vector set belong to each cluster and increases in exact proportion to its size and density. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach has the g

  • Fuzzy partition is a conceptual vehicle that encapsulates data into information granules. Fuzzy equalization concerns a process of building information granules that are semantically and experimentally meaningful. A few algorithms generating fuzzy partitions with fuzzy equalization have been suggested. Simulations and experiments have showed that fuzzy partition representing more characteristics of given input distribution usually produces meaningful results. In this paper, given two points and cardinality of fuzzy partition, we prove that it is not true that there always exists a fuzzy partition with fuzzy equalization in which two of points having peaks fall on the given two points. Then, we establish an algorithm that minimizes the maximum distance between given two points and adjacent points having peaks in the partition. A numerical example is presented to show the validity of the suggested algorithm.

  • The generation of fuzzy rules is inevitable in order to construct fuzzy modeling and in general, has the problem that the number of rules increases exponentially with increasing dimension. To solve this problem, we introduce the system that generate the fuzzy rules and make a inference based on FCM clustering algorithm that partition the input space in the scatter form. The parameters in the premise part of the fuzzy rules is determined as membership matrix by the FCM clustering algorithm and the consequence part of the fuzzy rules is are expressed as a polynomial function. Proposed model evaluated using the numerical data.

  • This paper deals with a new design methodology for a switching-type fuzzy-model-based controller in continuous and discrete-time system. Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model is employed to design the switching-type fuzzy-model-based controller. A switching-type fuzzy-model-based controller is constructed based on the spirit of “divide and conquer”. The global system which has several rules in divided into several subsystems and then, a solution is found at each subsystem. The global solution is determined by a conjunction of the solutions of each subsystem. The design conditions are formulated in terns of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which guarantee the stabilization of a given TS fuzzy system. Simulation examples are included for ensuring the proposed control method.

  • In this paper, we propose a hierarchical fuzzy-rough classification method based on statistical information for maximizing the performance of pattern classification and reducing the number of rules without learning approaches such as neural network, genetic algorithm. In the proposed method, statistical information is used for extracting the partition intervals of antecedent fuzzy sets at each layer on hierarchical fuzzy-rough classification systems and rough sets are used for minimizing the number of fuzzy if-then rules which are associated with the partition intervals extracted by statistical information. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, we compared the classification results(e.g. the classification accuracy and the number of rules) of the proposed with those of the conventional methods on the Fisher's IRIS data. From the experimental results, we can confirm the fact that the proposed method considers only statistical information of the given data is similar to the classification performance of the conventional methods.
