  • Kernel methods have shown to improve the performance of conventional linear classification algorithms for complex distributed data sets, as mapping the data in input space into a higher dimensional feature space(7). In this paper, we propose a fuzzy kernel K-nearest neighbor(fuzzy kernel K-NN) algorithm, which applies the distance measure in feature space based on kernel functions to the fuzzy K-nearest neighbor(fuzzy K-NN) algorithm. In doing so, the proposed algorithm can enhance the Performance of the conventional algorithm, by choosing an appropriate kernel function. Results on several data sets and segmentation results for real images are given to show the validity of our proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we investigated a method for feature-based classification to develop a software which is suitable for the classification of high resolution satellite imagery. We developed algorithms for image segmentation and fuzzy-based classification required for feature-based classification and designed user interfaces to support interaction with user, considering various elements required for the feature-based classification. Evaluation of the software was accomplished using real image. Classification results were compared and analysed with eCognition software which is unique commercial software for feature-based classification. The classification results from both softwares showed essentially same results and the developed software showed better result in the processing speed.

  • In this paper, we propose a new two-stage segmentation method for the effective object recognition which uses region-growing algorithm and k-means clustering method. At first, an image is segmented into many small regions via region growing algorithm. And then the segmented small regions are merged in several regions so that the regions of an object may be included in the same region using typical k-means clustering method. This paper also establishes similarity measurement which is useful for object recognition in an image. Similarity is measured by fuzzy system whose input variables are compactness, magnitude of biasness and orientation of biasness of the object image, which are geometrical features of the object. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed two-stage segmentation method and similarity measurement, experiments for object recognition were made and the results show that they are applicable to object recognition under normal circumstance as well as under abnormal circumstance of being.

  • This paper presents the optimal fraction of validation set to obtain a prediction accuracy of software failure count or failure time in the future by a neuro-fuzzy system. Given a fixed amount of training data, the most popular effective approach to avoiding underfitting and overfitting is early stopping, and hence getting optimal generalization. But there is unresolved practical issues : How many data do you assign to the training and validation set\ulcorner Rules of thumb abound, the solution is acquired by trial-and-error and we spend long time in this method. For the sake of optimal fraction of validation set, the variant specific fraction for the validation set be provided. It shows that minimal fraction of the validation data set is sufficient to achieve good next-step prediction. This result can be considered as a practical guideline in a prediction of software reliability by neuro-fuzzy system.

  • This paper proposes a HMM-based recognition method using DMSVQ(Dynamic Multi-Section Vector Quantization) codebook by DMS(Dynamic Multi-Section) model and fuzzy concept, as a study for speaker- independent speech recognition. In this proposed recognition method, training data are divided into several dynamic section and multi-observation sequences which are given proper probabilities by fuzzy rule according to order of short distance from DMSVQ codebook per each section are obtained. Thereafter, the HMM using this multi-observation sequences is generated, and in case of recognition, a word that has the most highest probability is selected as a recognized word. Other experiments to compare with the results of recognition experiments using proposed method are implemented as a data by the various conventional recognition methods under the equivalent environment. Through the experiment results, it is proved that the proposed method in this study is superior to the conventional recognition methods.

  • Recently, the modular network was proposed in a way to keep the size of the neural network small. The modular network solves the problem by splitting it into sub-problems. In this aspect, fuzzy systems act in a similar way. However, in a fuzzy system, there must be an expert rule which separates the input space. To overcome this, fuzzy-neural network has been used. However, the number of fuzzy rules grows exponentially as the number of input variables grow. In this paper, we would like to solve the size problem of neural networks using modular network with the hierarchic structure. In the hierarchic structure, the output of precedent module affects only the THEN part of the rule. Finally, the rules become shorter being compared to the rule of fuzzy-neural system. Also, the relations between input and output could be understood more easily in the Proposed modular network and that makes design easier.

  • In this paper we present an approach to the structure identification based on genetic algorithm and to the parameter identification by hybrid learning method in neuro-fuzzy-genetic hybrid system in order to predicate the Mackey-Glass Chaotic time series. In this scheme the basic idea consists of two steps. One is the construction of a fuzzy rule base for the partitioned input space via genetic algorithm, the other is the corresponding parameters of the fuzzy control rules adapted by the backpropagation algorithm. In an attempt to test the performance the proposed system, three patterns, x(t-3), x(t-6) and x(t-9), was prepared according to time interval. It was through lots of simulation proved that the initial small error of learning owed to the good structural identification via genetic algorithm. The performance was showed in Table 2.

  • In this paper, an automated segmentation algorithm is proposed for MR brain images using T1-weighted, T2-weighted, and PD images complementarily. The proposed segmentation algorithm is composed of 3 step. In the first step, cerebrum images are extracted by putting a cerebrum mask upon the three input images. In the second step, outstanding clusters that represent inner tissues of the cerebrum are chosen among 3-dimensional(3D) clusters. 3D clusters are determined by intersecting densely distributed parts of 2D histogram in the 3D space formed with three optimal scale images. Optimal scale image is made up of applying scale space filtering to each 2D histogram and searching graph structure. Optimal scale image best describes the shape of densely distributed parts of pixels in 2D histogram and searching graph structure. Optimal scale image best describes the shape of densely distributed parts of pixels in 2D histogram. In the final step, cerebrum images are segmented using FCM algorithm with its initial centroid value as the outstanding clusters centroid value. The proposed cluster's centroid accurately. And also can get better segmentation results from the proposed segmentation algorithm with multi spectral analysis than the method of single spectral analysis.

  • A variety of cluster analysis techniques prerequisite to cluster objects having similar characteristics in data mining. But the clustering of those algorithms have lots of difficulties in dealing with categorical data within the databases. The imprecise handling of uncertainty within categorical data in the clustering process stems from the only algebraic logic of rough set, resulting in the degradation of stability and effectiveness. This paper proposes a information-theoretic rough entropy(RE) by taking into account the dependency of attributes and proposes a technique called min-mean-mean roughness(MMMR) for selecting clustering attribute. We analyze and compare the performance of the proposed technique with K-means, fuzzy techniques and other standard deviation roughness methods based on ZOO dataset. The results verify the better performance of the proposed approach.

  • Image segmentation is to divide an image into similar parts or objects. This paper presents a segmentation system which consists of a fuzzy neural network and a set of image processing filters. The fuzzy neural network does not need initialization of weights. Therefore it does not have the underutilization problem. This fuzzy neural network controls the size and number of clusters by the vigilance parameter instead of fixing the number of clusters at the initial stage. This fuzzy neural network does not require large amount of memory as in Fuzzy c-Means algorithm. Two satellite images were segmented using the proposed system. The segmented results show that the proposed system is better on segmenting images.
