This research analyzed how the main requisites of faceted navigation as names of facets, subterms of facets, order of facets, too many results were user-centric. On the research method, this research analyzed the results of the three keywords retrieved in the 15 university libraries' catalogs and how was user's familiarity to the terms. Although domestic universities have serviced facet navigation, the names of the facet of publication date and series title in format and the terms under the facets as multimedia and nonbook material, media material are too difficult intuitively to understand and there were lots of formal terms used in cataloging rules and the terms librarians have usually used. Because of the terms, there is high possibility to deteriorate users' satisfaction and usability to library catalog in future. Even though they serviced facet navigation, there was also weakness as too many results and the university libraries need to use relevance ranking method to solve the weakness. This research has found the possibility of being used too many of levels of the facets and this may also badly affect the users' experience to library catalog.

The purpose of this study is to identify and systematize various facet elements required by users in fiction search situations from book tags to improve the fiction search environment. Based on the Ranganathan's PMEST formula, the basic facet system of the fiction was defined as 1) the personality that forms the fiction material, 2) the content and external characteristics that compose the fiction, 3) the reader interaction with books, 4) spatial information related to fiction and reading activities, and 5) time information related to fiction and reading activities. Out of approximately 310,000 tags assigned to 7,174 fiction, 3,730 core tags were selected and content-analyzed. As a result, various attributes were systematized around the top 25 categories of the fiction facets. The results of this study can be applied to facet navigation of OPAC and fiction DB in the future.

The purpose of this study is to develop a faceted classification scheme linked with a thesaurus(FCT) to more effectively organize documents according to subject, by transforming the current Korean Decimal Classification system(KDC) into a faceted classification scheme and linking it with Korea’s National Library Subject Headings. This combination should represent complex subjects more clearly, allow users to change citation order, and facilitate the addition of new subjects to the KDC scheme. Furthermore, by linking a thesaurus to the classification scheme, it is possible to share facets and expand the conceptual level of headings through the thesaurus descriptors.

Applying one specific thesaurus might cause several problems because each thesaurus has its own characteristics inherited from its construction process. Therefore, integration of thesauri can be an appropriate approach to overcome the difficulties. This current research selected physics as a domain and two thesauri in the domain: PACS and PIRA. By integrating these two heterogeneous thesauri, this research could construct a conceptual structure that covers the whole concepts related to physics. By constructing the conceptual structure with the use of facet analysis from integrated thesaurus, it provides knowledge base with hierarchical structure and clear relationships between concepts. It can be an alternate approach to effective and efficient information retrieval and knowledge discovery.

This study is to analyze and suggest the KDC's facet structure. KDC is using the Decimal Classification's facet structure. New suggestions are : Clearly use standard subdivisions and add instruction like 'Add to base number $\~$ notation $\~$ from table $\~$' : auxiliary tables contents are need to revise and expand to make a add table found in schedules and provide numbers to be added to designated schedules numbers are necessary.

Because all the subjects may become the targets of classification, it is necessary to change the enumerated into the faceted scheme. This study is to confirm that possibility of change and to proposed the new faceted structure scheme(faceted classification) based on the Literature. The proposed schemes are : 1) facet structure is simple, 2) meaning of facet is clearness, 3) because using mixed notation, it is complicated.

본 연구에서는 다양한 개념 패싯과 관계 패싯들을 수용한 범용 과학기술 시소러스 구축용 웹 기반 워크벤치 개발에 대해 기술한다. 기존 국내 시소러스 구축용 워크벤치들이 제공하는 기본적인 용어 관계구축 기능을 확장하여 개념 패싯, 범주 관계 패싯, 의미역 관계 패싯, 속성 관계 패싯 및 속성 키워드 처리 기능을 원활히 제공할 수 있는 사용자 중심적 워크벤치를 개발함으로써 시소러스 상의 개념들에 대한 효율적인 구축이 가능하도록 한다. 또한 시멘틱 웹 상의 온톨로지 영역에 보다 근접한 고도화되니 시소러스 구축을 위해 용어들을 개념화시키고, 개념간의 다양한 관계를 설정하는 프로세스 중심적 설계로 분야 적합성이 높은 정보 처리 기반을 갖춘다. 궁극적으로 여러 마이크로 시소러스들을 통합하여 운용할 수 있는 복합 모델을 구축하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 이러한 목적에 부합하는 시스템 구현을 위해 CBD(Component Based Development) 개발 방법론으로 MSF/CD를 이용하였으며, 분산 환경에서 이기종간의 데이터 교환을 용이하게 하기 위하여 웹 서비스 (XML Web Services)를 이용하였다. 또한 시멘틱 웹 기반 연구자 간 협업 지원 서비스 구현을 위한 확장 검색용으로서도 활용할 수 있도록 하였다. 시소러스 반출은 CSV, XML 및 RDF를 모두 지원할 수 있도록 함으로써 다양한 사용자 요구 사항에 부합할 수 있도록 하였다. 시소러스 브라우징을 시각화 기반의 3단계 구조를 가진 플래시로 구현하여 사용자가 쉽게 시소러스를 탐색하고 분석할 수 있는 기반을 제공하였다. 또한 다양한 검색 요구를 만족시키고자 기본 검색, 고급 검색, 메타 검색을 선택할 수 있도록 하며, 개념 편집 및 시소러스 브라우징과 연동시켜 효율적인 시소러스 구축이 가능하도록 하였다. 본 연구의 워크벤치를 이용하여 구축된 시소러스는 기존 시소러스들에 비해 사용자가 보다 폭넓은 의미 기반 검색을 수행할 수 있도록 함으로써 다각적인 정보를 쉽게 획득할 수 있는 기반을 마련하고 있다는 데 의의가 있으며, 다국어 시소러스 및 다중 시소러스를 수용할 수 있는 방향으로 발전시킬 계획이다.

This study develops a methodology for facet-based subject headings for the subject access to oral history records collected by such a project of the knit business in Haebangchon. First, the concept and characteristics of oral history records and their contents were investigated, and the meaning of facets and subject headings applied to such content was examined in the literature review. Second, the basic facets of oral history records were created based on 5W1H that reflected the narrative feature of oral history. Third, 540 subject-related terms were selected through an analysis of the transcript written based on oral history interviews with one interviewer and seven interviewees linked to the knit business in Haebangchon. Fourth and last, subject headings were proposed with the selected subject-related terms categorized in facets with various relationships. These facet-based subject headings will improve the subject access and use of oral history records.

In this paper we propose a formal data model of an object-based thesaurus system supporting multi-dimensional facets. According to facets reflecting on respective user perspectives, it supports systematic construction, browsing, navigating and referencing of thesauri. Unlike other faceted thesaurus systems, it systematically manages its complexity by appropriately ing sophisticated conceptual structure through visualized browsing and navigation as well as construction. The browsing and navigation is performed by dynamically generating multi-dimensional virtual thesaurus hierarchies called "faceted thesaurus hierarchies." The hierarchies are automatically constructed by combining facets, each representing a dimension of view. Such automatic construction may make it possible the flexible extension of thesauri for they can be easily upgraded by pure insertion or deletion of facets. With a well defined set of self-referential queries, the thesauri can also be effectively referenced from multiple view points since they are structured by appropriately interpreting the semantics of instances based on facets. In this paper, we first formalize the underlying model and then implement its prototype to demonstrate its feasibility.

본 연구에서는 기존의 분석합성형 분류체계(BC2)로부터 개념과 관계를 추출하여 작성한 자모순 시소러스에 패싯도구를 삽입하여 용어의 개념과 관계를 정확하게 이해할 수 있도록 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 그리고, 이러한 과정을 통해 기존의 분류체계나 시소러스가 지니고 있는 한계를 개선하고자 한다.
