Modeling Metaverse Avatars and K-Fashion Apparel 3D Production -Focus on Developing Styling Work with K-Designer Items- (메타버스 아바타 및 K-패션의류 3D 제작 모델링-K 디자이너 아이템을 활용한 스타일링 작업물 개발을 중심으로-)

  • The scale of the industry utilizing the Metaverse platform is gradually growing around the world. Fashion brands are also starting to utilize the Metaverse platform as a new market to replace the next e-commerce platform by targeting new consumers, MZ generation, and even Alpha generation. In this study, a real K-fashion designer's outfit was made into a 3D outfit using CLO 3D program to express it in a new market, the Metaverse 3D platform. It was then compared with a real outfit. An avatar prototype was completed using Max program to simulate the 3D digital fashion outfit and produce an avatar through an optimization process. The 3D outfits showed the same level of results as the actual outfits in terms of fabric surface, material texture, drapability, overall outfit, details, and trimmings. In addition, we proposed a 2D work on total styling suggestion and modeling to secure data sets for future AI-based styling services. In conclusion, this study revealed that actual outfits and 3D outfits had the same results. It is significant that it can be a sample work to build a styling data set through styling suggestion and content production as a significant amount of styling DB construction will be required before AI styling automation services.

  • Recently, there are increasing attempts to utilize deep learning methodology in the fashion industry. Accordingly, research dealing with various fashion-related problems have been proposed, and superior performances have been achieved. However, the studies for fashion style classification have not reflected the characteristics of the fashion style that one outfit can include multiple styles simultaneously. Therefore, we aim to solve the multi-label classification problem by utilizing the dependencies between the styles. A multi-label recognition model based on a graph convolution network is applied to detect and explore fashion styles' dependencies. Furthermore, we accelerate model training and improve the model's performance through transfer learning. The proposed model was verified by a dataset collected from social network services and outperformed baselines.

The Effect of Perceived Affordances of Gamified Avatar Fashion Styling on Metaverse Engagement Behavior Intention (지각된 아바타 패션 스타일링 게임 어포던스가 메타버스 인게이지먼트 행동 의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Drawing on gamification affordance theory, this study examines the relationships among key affordances of avatar fashion styling, perceived enjoyment, and engagement behavior intentions-defined as the intention to share content on avatars in the metaverse platform-and the moderating role of metaverse familiarity. Based on survey data collected from 198 Korean ZEPETO users with avatar fashion styling experience, the hereby proposed research model was tested with structural equation modeling. The results demonstrated that self-expression and competition positively influenced perceived enjoyment, which subsequently affected customers' engagement behavior intention. Furthermore, metaverse familiarity as a moderating effect intensified the positive association between affordances and perceived enjoyment as well as between perceived enjoyment and engagement behavior intentions. The individual interaction effect of each affordance dimension on perceived enjoyment was different, with self-expression having a greater influence on enjoyment among the high-familiarity group and competition having a greater influence on enjoyment among the low-familiarity group. Considering that users with low metaverse familiarity might have higher needs for social interaction for adaptation, competition, being more socially triggering, might have affected these users more crucially.

  • This study aims to derive the need for middle-aged women to consider using fashion product applications, styling, and personalized styling services. To analyze the fashion styling considerations of middle-aged women, 200 women in their 40s and 50s were surveyed. Middle-aged women usually tend to shop through home shopping, department stores, fashion soho (Small office home office) malls, and open market-type applications, and purchase fashion products more than two or three times a month, spending an average of less than 50,000 won per month. Middle-aged women consider choosing appropriate clothing based on the occasion and place, complementing the flaws of the changed body type as well as taking into account the weather in the styling process, and seek to showcase a sophisticated, luxurious, and youthful image through styling. However, they are confused and face difficulties in fashion styling, with regard to not only overall body shape but also partial body changes, such as increasing waistline, flabby thighs and arms, and decreasing hip volume. In addition, middle-aged women were looking for expert advice on styling to help them look the best. They also wanted to solve the difficulties of making a right choice amid the overflowing information related to fashion. The results of the study contribute to identifying products that meet the needs of middle-aged women and help develop detailed consumer-tailored marketing strategies, thereby improving sales of fashion products.

  • This study investigated the effects of costume styling, color and texture on character expression in the movies "All About My Wife" and "Marriage Blue". As a study method, the main scenes were captured from the DVD image and the costumes of the main characters were analyzed to examine how the costumes express the personality change according to the story development of the characters. The characters in "All About My Wife" and "Marriage Blue" were studied to see how their personality changes as the story develops and how the costume supports the personality change of those characters. It was checked that costume contributes to effectively deliver the emotion of the characters to audience. In the movies, costume plays an important role in completing the character, and styling, color, and texture of the costume are one of the important means of expression. In a movie, costumes, styling, color, and texture contribute towards development of each character's character. And these elements act synergistically by acting simultaneously rather than independently, thus defining the image of the costume and playing a role in building characters. Movie directors persuade the audience by expressing their intentions in various ways. Among them, movie costume is one of the most effective expression tools. The styling, color, and texture of the clothes are practical and effective methodology that will create a character, so I hope that the field of film art will be researched extensively in the future.

  • Cloths wrapped around the body have been the basis of the dress of people all over the world for centuries. This study is to research detailed modifiable fashion styling methods in history and to give ideas to people such as fashion professionals who are interested in fashion styling so that they can create modifiable fashion styling easily in fashion fields. The characteristics of modifiable fashion styling methods from ancient to middle ages are as follows. The first modifiable styling method is to expose the knots on the surface of the garments, and the knots were mainly located on the upper part of the body. The second method is a wrapping type of the modifiable styling method, which shows a lot of variant simple shapes of cloths. This method helped develop many wrapping methods over time. The third way is the fixed type of the modifiable styling method, and it uses accessories such as fibulae, belts to fix cloths, to create many different styles. The accessories are located on around either the neck or waist. The fourth method is the composite type of the modifiable styling methods mentioned above. This styling method is adapted in robe type clothes which makes the clothes look full of beautiful drapery. This study suggests that simple shapes of cloths can create enormous amount of styling which can be easily adapted and created nowadays.

A Study on New-Hanbok Styling of Online Shopping Mall (온라인쇼핑몰 신한복 스타일링에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the New-Hanbok styling of online shopping mall, and to also suggest a solution to the problems of the New-Hanbok styling and develop a progressive plan. The research method was to search six keywords related to 'Hanbok' in the search portal 'Naver' and select 14 Hanbok brand companies. A total of 412 pictures of products for the model used on main screen were analyzed among 14 companies. The results of analyzing the New-Hanbok styling are as follows. First, the New-Hanbok styling showed the unstructured characteristics like unconventional arrangement after getting out of the fixed form of traditional Hanbok styling elements. Secondly, diverse images were represented as the hairstyle and makeup were highlighted as the elements of New-Hanbok styling. Thirdly, the new, fresh, trendy, and fashionable New-Hanbok styling was shown through the mix-and-match of traditional Korean-style accessories and fashion jewelries. However, regarding the New-Hanbok styling shown in online shopping mall, the overlapped items were especially found while the difference in material, pattern, and color required to overcome this problem was insufficient. It was lacking in the styling consistency for the establishment brand image while the awareness of the importance of accessory styling was insufficient. The brand competitiveness of the New-Hanbok could be secured by raising awareness on differentiation, consistency, and importance through the styling elements such as item composition, material, pattern, color, hairstyle, makeup, and accessory of brand.

UX Elements and Effects of Fashion Shopping Apps Based on Multipersona Characteristics of MZ generation (MZ세대의 멀티퍼소나 특성을 반영한 패션 쇼핑 앱의 UX 요소에 대한 연구)

  • MZ Generation has multipersona and characteristics that create various egos depending on the situation, and fashion styling is also expressed differently by each persona. Thus, this study investigates how to provide a multipersona or characteristic user experience to fashion shopping applications. Traditional fashion shopping apps, which focus on items, colors, and advertisements, have difficulty solving the problems of MZ generation fashion, so it is necessary to actively utilize their characteristics. We investigate the definitions and characteristics of multipersona and generation MZ, and identify the shopping behavior of generation MZ through prior research. We also analyze cases and improvements that indirectly utilize multipersona in fashion shopping apps. Four UX elements were derived through user interviews to identify needs and It was possible to derive positive effects, such as providing a shopping experience by forming one's own fashion characters in a personalized fashion beyond the existing fashion recommendation frame, which helps to worry about styling and gives a different experience.

Comparison of Women's Denim Fashion between Seoul and Beijing (서울과 북경 여성들의 데님패션 비교 연구)

  • Denim has been one of the most favored clothing item among young people regardless of regional difference. This study compared the styling of women's denim fashion in two Asian metro-cities, Seoul and Beijing, in order to understand how differ the fashion taste of both cities. Data was collected by taking photos of young women who wear denim clothing at the main streets of downtowns or famous shopping areas of both cities from the July of 2004 till the April of 2005. A total of 524 photos(Seoul 242, and Beijing 282) were put into content analysis. Results showed that there were several similarities and differences in denim styling between two cities in terms of the most widely worn denim items and the coordinate items, and the favored colors, silhouette, details of denim pants and the coordinate items. In Seoul, women favored denim look with little detail, fitted silhouette, and in more formal image. A few denim styles prevailed in each season which reflect current denim fashion trends. Meanwhile a wide variety of denim styles were found at Beijing without dominant denim trends, which means Beijing women put more emphasis on personal expression of their fashion taste instead of just following fashion trends.

Comparison of Mens' Denim Fashion in Eastern and Western Cities (세계 대도시 남성들의 데님패션 비교연구)

  • The denim fashion is a style of clothing showing trends towards globalization in that it is most favored and most frequently purchased and worn by youngsters throughout the world. However, it differs from region to region in its shapes, colors, silhouettes and coordination, reflecting a feature of regionalism. Male denim fashion data were collected from large cities of the East and the West for an analysis in terms of design and coordination. It was found that a common point originated from the features of the clothing itself as well as from a common culture shared among those of similar ages while differences came from various factors such as aesthetic sentiments and lifestyle of each ethnic group, willingness to accept the fashion trends, and the ways of expressing oneself by means of clothing and their attitude towards clothing. It was noteworthy that the denim fashion in Europe and America, Beijing and Seoul differed largely owing to their different tastes for expressing themselves. A comparison study of the regional denim styles may lead to a better understanding of a worldwide phenomenon of the common fashion trends and regional differences in aesthetic appeal and the fashion preference.
