AVO and complex trace analyses mainly used to characterize natural gas reservoir were tested in this paper for a possible application to detection of major geological discontinuities such as fracture zones. The test data used in this study were calculated by utilizing a viscoelastic numerical program which was based on the generalized Maxwell body for a horizontal fracture model. In AVO analysis of a horizontal fracture zone, p-wave reflection appears to be variant depending upon the acoustic-impedence contrast and the offset distance. The fracture zone is also effectively clarified both in gradient stack and range-limited stack in which fracture zone reflection is attenuated with the increasing offset distance. In complex attribute plots (instantaneous amplitude, frequency, and phase), the top and bottom of the fracture Tone are characterized by a zone of strong amplitudes and an event of the same phase. Low frequency characteristics appear at the fracture zone and the underneath. Amplitude attenuation and waveform dispersion are dependent on Q-contrast between the fracture zone and the surrounding media. They were properly compensated by optimum inverse Q-filtering.

In this paper, an ASIC emulation system called ACE (ASIC Emulator) is proposed. It can produce the prototype of target ASIC in a short time and verify the function of ASIC circuit immediately The ACE is consist of emulation software in which there are EDIF reader, library translator, technology mapper, circuit partitioner and LDF generator and emulation hardware including emulation board and logic analyzer. Technology mapping is consist of three steps such as circuit partitioning and extraction of logic function, minimization of logic function and grouping of logic function. During those procedures, the number of basic logic blocks and maximum levels are minimized by making the output to be assigned in a same block sharing product-terms and input variables as much as possible. Circuit partitioner obtain chip-level netlists satisfying some constraints on routing structure of emulation board as well as the architecture of FPGA chip. A new partitioning algorithm whose objective function is the minimization of the number of interconnections among FPGA chips and among group of FPGA chips is proposed. The routing structure of emulation board take the advantage of complete graph and partial crossbar structure in order to minimize the interconnection delay between FPGA chips regardless of circuit size. logic analyzer display the waveform of probing signal on PC monitor that is designated by user. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed emulation system, video Quad-splitter, one of the commercial ASIC, is implemented on the emulation board. Experimental results show that it is operated in the real time of 14.3MHz and functioned perfectly.

A delay-line type time-to-digital converter (TDC) implemented in a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is most widely owing due to its simple structure and high conversion rate. However, the delay-line type TDC suffers from nonlinearity error caused by the long delay-line because its time interval measurement range is determined by the length of the used delay line. In this study, a new TDC structure with a shorter delay line by taking a pulse train as an input is proposed for improved time accuracy and efficient use of resources. The proposed TDC utilizes a pulse-train with four transitions and a transition state detector that identifies the used transition among four transitions and prevents the meta-stable state without a synchronizer. With 72 delay cells, the measured resolution and maximum non-linearity were 20.53 ps, and 1.46 LSB, respectively, and the time interval measurement range was 5070 ps which was enhanced by approximately 343 % compared to the conventional delay-line type TDC.

Researches regarding measurement and control of the dynamic behavior of liquid such as sloshing have been actively on undertaken in various engineering fields. Liquid vibration is being measured in the study of tuned liquid dampers(TLDs), which attenuates wind motion of buildings even in building structures. To overcome the limitations of existing wave height measurement sensors, a method of measuring liquid vibration in a TLD using a laser Doppler vibrometer(LDV) and galvanometer scanner is proposed in this paper: the principle of measuring speed and displacement is discussed; a system of multi-point measurement with a single point of LDV according to the operating principles of the galvanometer scanner is established. 4-point liquid vibration on the TLD is measured, and the time domain data of each point is compared with the conventional video sensing data. It was confirmed that the waveform is transformed into the traveling wave and the standing wave. In addition, the data with measurement delay are cross-correlated to perform singular value decomposition. The natural frequencies and mode shapes are compared using theoretical and video sensing results.

Recent investigation into the integrity of nuclear containment buildings has highlighted the importance of developing an elaborate diagnostic method to evaluate the distribution and size of cavities inside concrete walls. As part of developing such a method, this paper presents a finite element approach to modeling elastic waves propagating in the containment building walls of a nuclear power plant. We introduce a perfectly matched layer (PML) wave-absorbing boundary to limit the large-scale nuclear containment wall to the region of interest. The formulation results in a semi-discrete form with symmetric damping and stiffness matrices. The transient elastic wave equations for a mixed unsplit-field PML were solved for displacement and stresses in the time domain. Numerical results show that the sensitivity of displacement, velocity, acceleration, and stresses is large depending on the size and location of the cavity. The dynamic response of the wall slightly differs depending on the existence of the containment liner plate. The results of this study can be applied to a full-waveform inversion approach for characterizing cavities inside a containment wall.

Recently, a score-penalty method has been used for the acoustic passive tracking of marine mammals. The interesting aspect of this technique lies in the loss function, which has a penalty term representing the mismatch between the measured signal and the modeled signal, while the traditional time-domain matched-field processing is positively considering the match between them. In this study, we apply the score-penalty method into the depth estimation of a passive target with a known source waveform. Assuming deep ocean environments with uncertainties in the sound speed profile, we evaluate the score-penalty method, comparing it with the time-domain matched field processing method. We shows that the score-penalty method is more accurate than the time-domain matched field processing method in the ocean environment with weak mismatch of sound speed profile, and has better efficiency. However, in the ocean enviroment with strong mismatch of the sound speed profile, the score-penalty method also fails in the depth estimation of a target, similar to the time-domain matched-field processing method.
The velocity horizontal response spectra using the observed ground motions from the recent 5 macro earthquakes, equal to or larger than 4.8 in magnitude, around Korean Peninsula were analysed and then were compared to the acceleration horizontal response spectra, seismic design response spectra (Reg Guide 1.60), applied to the domestic nuclear power plants, and finally the Korean Standard Design Response Spectrum for general structures and buildings. 102 velocity horizontal ground motions, including NS and EW components, were used for velocity horizontal response spectra and then normalized with respect to the peak velocity value of each ground motion. First, the results showed that velocity horizontal response spectra have larger values at the range of medium natural period, but acceleration horizontal response spectra have larger values at the range of short natural periods. Secondly, the results also showed that velocity horizontal response spectra exceed Reg. Guide 1.60 for longer natural periods bands less than 6-7 Hz. Finally, the results were also compared to the Korean Standard Response Spectrum for the 3 different soil types(SC, SD, and SE soil type) and showed that velocity horizontal response spectra revealed much higher values for the frequency bands below 1.5(SC), 2.0(SD), and 3.0(SE) seconds, respectively, than the Korean Standard Response Spectrum. The results suggest that the fact that acceleration, velocity, and displacement horizontal response spectra have larger values at the range of short, medium, and long natural periods, respectively, can be applied consistently to those form domestic ground motion, especially, the velocity ground motion. Information on response spectrum at such medium range periods can be very important since the domestic design of buildings and structures emphasizes recently medium and long natural periods than short one due to increased super high-rise buildings.
Three differing sandstones, two synthetic and one field sample, have been tested ultrasonically under a range of confining pressures and pore pressures representative of in-situ reservoir pressures. These sandstones include: a synthetic sandstone with calcite intergranular cement produced using the CSIRO Calcite In-situ Precipitation Process (CIPS); a synthetic sandstone with silica intergranular cement; and a core sample from the Otway Basin Waarre Formation, Boggy Creek 1 well, from the target lithology for a trial $CO_2$ pilot project. Initial testing was carried on the cores at "room-dried" conditions, with confining pressures up to 65 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. All cores were then flooded with $CO_2$, initially in the gas phase at 6 MPa, $22^{\circ}C$, then with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at a temperature of $22^{\circ}C$ and pressures from 7 MPa to 17 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. Confining pressures varied from 10 MPa to 65 MPa. Ultrasonic waveforms for both P- and S-waves were recorded at each effective pressure increment. Velocity versus effective pressure responses were calculated from the experimental data for both P- and S-waves. Attenuations $(1/Q_p)$ were calculated from the waveform data using spectral ratio methods. Theoretical calculations of velocity as a function of effective pressure for each sandstone were made using the $CO_2$ pressure-density and $CO_2$ bulk modulus-pressure phase diagrams and Gassmann effective medium theory. Flooding the cores with gaseous phase $CO_2$ produced negligible change in velocity-effective stress relationships compared to the dry state (air saturated). Flooding with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at various pore pressures lowered velocities by approximately 8% on average compared to the air-saturated state. Attenuations increased with liquid-phase $CO_2$ flooding compared to the air-saturated case. Experimental data agreed with the Gassmann calculations at high effective pressures. The "critical" effective pressure, at which agreement with theory occurred, varied with sandstone type. Discrepancies are thought to be due to differing micro-crack populations in the microstructure of each sandstone type. The agreement with theory at high effective pressures is significant and gives some confidence in predicting seismic behaviour under field conditions when $CO_2$ is injected.

Reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers(R-SOAs) were designed with high gain, wide optical bandwidth, high thermal reliability and wide modulation bandwidth in TO-can package for the transmitter of wavelength division multiplexed-passive optical network(WDM-PON) application. Double trench structure and current block layer were introduced in designing the active layer of R-SOA to enable high speed modulation. The injection power requirement and the viable temperature range of WDM-PON system are experimentally analysed in based on Amplified Spontaneous Emission(ASE)-injected R-SOAs. The effect of the different injection spectrum in the gain-saturated R-SOA was experimentally characterized based on the measurements of excessive intensity noise, Q factor, and BER. The proposed spectral pre-composition method reduces the bandwidth of injection source below the AWG bandwidth and thereby avoids spectrum distortion impeding the intensity noise reduction originated from the amplitude squeezing.

A power-efficient neuromodulator is needed for implantable systems. In spite of their stimulation signal's simplicity of wave shape and waiting time of MCU(micro controller unit) much longer than execution time, there is no consideration for low-power design. In this paper, we propose a novel of low-power algorithm based on the characteristics of stimulation signals. Then, we designed and implement a neuromodulation software that we call NMS(neuro modulation simulation). In order to implement low-power algorithm, first, we analyze running time of every function in existing NMS. Then, we calculate execution time and waiting time for these functions. Subsequently, we estimate the transition time between active mode (AM) and low-power mode (LPM). By using these results, we redesign the architecture of NMS in the proposed low-power algorithm: a stimulation signal divided into a number of segments by using characteristics of the signal from which AM or LPM segments are defined for determining the MCU power reduces to turn off or not. Our experimental results indicate that NMS with low-power algorithm reducing current consumption of MCU by 76.31 percent compared to NMS without low-power algorithm.
