Implemeention and performance measurement of a novel in-service supervisory system for WDM transmission link (파장분할다중화방식 전송로의 In-service 감시를 위한 새로운 감시시스템의 구현 및 성능평가)

  • Novel supervisory system for WDM transmission link using conventional optical time domain reflectometry was presented. By modifying the structure of erbuim doped fiber amplifier to support bi-directional transmission at arDR pulse wavelength and launching the optical pulse into transmission link in the opposite direction of data signal propagation to avoid the distortion by cross-gain modulation, it is possible to monitor the WDM link in service. To prove the validity of proposed scheme, the supervision result of 2.5 Gbps $\times$ 8 channel WDM 320 km transmission system in service by arDR was presented. And power penalty due to monitoring was measured as smaller than 0.3 dB. .3 dB.

  • 식물공장 내 작물의 생육은 제공되는 인공광원의 광원 및 광질에 영향을 받으며, 광흡수 파장에 따라 다르다. 또한 광합성에 효과적인 형태의 빛의 계속적인 빛의 조사보다는 광 펄스를 조절하여 공급하여 준다면 더욱더 효과적인 생육 환경을 제공해 줄 수 있다. 식물의 최적 생장을 위해 특정 파장대의 빛을 선택적으로 조사할 수 있는 LED특성을 사용하여 UV광원을 포함한 인공광원의 펄스폭 변조에 따른 적치마 상추의 생육특성을 알아보고자 하였다. 광환경은 Red(660 nm), Blue(450 nm), UV(395 nm) LED를 8:1:1 비율로 광량 $160{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^2{\cdot}s^{-1}$, 주파수 1.25, 2.5, 3.75, 5.0 kHz로 조사하여 주었으며, 온도 $20{\sim}23^{\circ}C$, 습도 50~60%, $CO_2$농도 1,000 ppm으로 조성하여 주었다. 아시아종묘 적치마상추를 파종 후 18일 째 되는날 정식, 정식 후 14일 28일 째 되는날 SPAD, 지상부 지하부의 생체중 및 건물중, 엽폭, 엽장을 측정하였으며, 측정한 엽폭과 엽장을 이용하여 엽형지수 산출, 지상부 지하부 생체중 값을 이용하여 S/R율을 산출하였다. SPAD 측정결과 생육시기가 증가할수록 SPAD함량은 감소하였으며, 1.25와 2.5 kHz에서 생육 시기 증가에 대한 SPAD함량 감소가 컸고, 3.75와 5.0 kHz의 경우 SPAD함량의 감소량은 작았다. 지상부 생체중은 3.75 kHz에서 121.51 g으로 가장 높은 값을 나타냈으며, 2.5, 1.75, 5.0 kHz 순으로 높은 값을 나타났다. 지하부 생체중의 경우 3.75 kHz에서 31.31 g으로 가장 높은 값을 나타냈으며 2.5, 5.0, 1.25 kHz 순으로 높게 나타났다. 엽형지수는 생육 시기가 증가에 따라 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며, 1.75, 2.5, 5.0, 3.75 kHz 순으로 크게 나타났다. 지상부 건물중 측정결과는 지상부 생체중 결과와, 지하부 건물중의 측정결과는 지하부 생체중 결과와 동일하였다. S/R율은 1.75 kHz를 제외하고 생육시기가 증가할수록 S/R율은 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며, 주파수가 높아질수록 S/R율은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 엽형지수는 엽폭/엽장으로 엽형지수를 산출한 결과로 값이 작을수록 엽폭이 넓은 형태를 의미하며, 생체중값이 가장 크게 나타났던 3.75 kHz에서 엽형지수의 값이 가장 낮게 나타났으며 3.75 kHz를 제외하고 주파수가 높을수록 엽형지수의 값이 낮게 나타났다. 이에 주파수에 따른 적상추의 생육은 3.75 kHz에서 가장 좋은 것으로 판단할 수 있었다.

  • Air environment regulations have been strengthened due to increasing air pollutant emissions, the target of reducing emissions has increased and interest in gas measurement methods is also increasing. The sampling method is mainly used, but due to the spatial and temporal measurement limitations, the laser absorption spectroscopy which is a real-time and in-situ method is in the spotlight. In this study, we studied the wavelength modulation spectroscopy and described the calibration-free algorithm. The developed algorithm was modified to reflect 46 multi-absorption lines and was applied to light absorption signal analysis in visible and mid-infrared regions. In addition, the difference between the modulation parameters of laser was analyzed. As a result of reviewing the performance through O2 and NO gas measurement experiments of various concentration conditions, the linearity was R2O2=0.99999 and R2NO=0.99967.

Phase Noise Characterization with Optical Carrier Suppression Level on Continuous Wave in the Ranges of Millimeter Waves Generated by Photomixing of Optical Double Sideband-Suppressed Carrier(DSB-SC) (광 반송파가 억압된 양측 대역 방식의 광 혼합을 통하여 발생된 밀리미터파 대역 연속파에서 광 반송파 억압 레벨에 따른 위상 잡음 특성 분석)

  • Photomixing techniques beating two optical signals with different wavelengths and strong correlations are also very useful techniques to make a continuous wave(CW) signals in the range of millimeter(mm) and terahertz(THz) frequencies. An optical double sideband-suppressed carrier(DSB-SC) technique is one of the popular techniques to generate two optical signals with different wavelengths and strong correlations. DSB-SC signals with strong correlations are generated by a CW modulation of an optical carrier with a local oscillator and an optical modulator. In the previous parers related the DSB-SC for producing the CW signals within the range of mm and THz frequencies, there have been no reports why the optical carrier should suppress. In order to clear that, we have analyzed and measured the characteristics of the mm-wave CW signals made by the DSB-SC photomixing in this paper. From our analysis and measurement results, compared with the case of the DSB with the maximized optical carrier, the power and phase noise have improved about 23.9 dB and 21 dBc/Hz(@ 1 MHz offset frequency) in the case of the DSB with the minimized optical carrier (that is to say, the DSB-SC). Consequently, it is evident reason that the optical carrier should sufficiently suppress to obtain the mm-wave CW signals with the high power and low noise. This paper has given very helpful data to make mm- and THz-wave CW signals using photomixing techniques with the DSB-SC because the reason why the optical carrier should be suppressed is reported in this paper based on the numerical and experimental results.

Performance Analysis of 5Gbps/1.25Gbps WDM/TDM Hybrid Passive Optical Network with Inverse Return to Zero(RZ) coded Downstream and NRZ upstream re-modulation by Performing Simulation with MATLAB (모의실험을 통한 역 RZ 부호로 코딩된 하향신호의 재변조를 이용한 5Gbps/1.25Gbps WDM/TDM 하이브리드 수동 광가입자 망의 성능분석)

  • I propose the 5Gbps/1.25Gbps WDM/TDM hybrid Passive Optical Network(PON) with inverse RZ(Return to Zero) code coded downstream and NRZ(Non Return to Zero) upstream re-modulation and analyze its performance by performing simulation with MATLAB. The results have shown that an optical line termination (OLT) can be connected to 8, 16 optical network unit (ONU)s with the Bit Error Rate(BER) of $10^{-9}$ when the distance between OLT and ONU is 10Km and transmitted optical powers are more than -3.8, -0.9dBm, respectively. The proposed WDM/TDM hybrid PON system can solve the problem of data rate limit in upstream which happened in the conventional TDM PON because the upstream data rate is proportional to ONU and does not require a light source in ONU and its control circuits in OLT, thus can be a useful technology for asymmetric optical subscriber networks.

Photonic Microwave Notch Filter with Negative Coefficient Using Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (반사형 반도체 광 증폭기를 이용한 음계수를 가지는 광 마이크로파 노치 필터)

  • We propose and experimentally demonstrate a photonic microwave notch filter with a negative coefficient. The negative coefficient is obtained by using cross gain modulation (XGM) in a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA). When the RSOA is operated in saturated region, the signal carried on the pump wavelength is inversely copied to the probe wavelength by the XGM effect, showing a negative coefficient. Time delay between pump signal and probe signal is provided by single mode fiber (SMF) with wavelength dependent time delay. The proposed microwave notch filter shows notch dips of more than 35.1 dB and free spectral range (FSR) of about 380.6 MHz.

  • Fiber Bragg grating sensors are fabricated by core index modulation using UV laser and phasemask. Bragg wavelength of the grating is changed by the external strain. In this paper, a signal processing system of fiber Bragg grating sensor has studied in the optical wavelength domain. The system is based on the sweep semiconductor light source that consists of SLD, F-P tunable filter and etalon filter. The hysteresis effects of PZT in the F-P tunable filter are compensated. The long term measurement stability is obtained by controlling the temperature of F-P tunable filter and the SLD. We compare the strain data from fiber Bragg grating sensor and that from strain gauge at concrete hume pipe. We also get very good results for the long gauge displacement using fiber Bragg grating sensor which are identical to the data with short gauge length ordinary displacement sensor.

  • Masked fake face detection using ordinary visible images is a formidable task when the mask is accurately made with special makeup. Considering recent advances in special makeup technology, a reliable solution to detect masked fake faces is essential to the development of a complete face recognition system. This research proposes a method for masked fake face detection that exploits reflectance disparity due to object material and its surface color. First, we have shown that measuring of albedo can be simplified to radiance measurement when a practical face recognition system is deployed under the user-cooperative environment. This enables us to obtain albedo just by grey values in the image captured. Second, we have found that 850nm infrared light is effective to discriminate between facial skin and mask material using reflectance disparity. On the other hand, 650nm visible light is known to be suitable for distinguishing different facial skin colors between ethnic groups. We use a 2D vector consisting of radiance measurements under 850nm and 659nm illumination as a feature vector. Facial skin and mask material show linearly separable distributions in the feature space. By employing FIB, we have achieved 97.8% accuracy in fake face detection. Our method is applicable to faces of different skin colors, and can be easily implemented into commercial face recognition systems.

  • In this paper, we have experimentally demonstrated a 2-kW-class spectrally-beam-combined laser with high beam quality, using narrow-linewidth ytterbium-doped polarization-maintaining fiber amplifiers. Five fiber amplifiers with different center wavelengths were implemented for the spectrally-beam-combined laser. The center wavelengths of the five amplifiers were 1062, 1063, 1064, 1065, and 1066 nm, respectively. A phase-modulated laser diode was used as a seed source for each amplifier. The seed sources were modulated by filtered pseudorandom-bit-sequence (PRBS) signals 5 GHz in linewidth. The polarization-maintaining large-mode-area fiber with a core size of 30 ㎛ was used as a delivery fiber to mitigate the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effect. The laser beams from five amplifiers were spectrally combined by a multilayer dielectric diffraction grating. The maximum output power and beam quality M2 of the combined laser were measured to be 2.3 kW and 1.74, respectively.

  • This work forcus on the development of gas sensor that measure the concentrations of exhaust gas using diode laser. Each diode laser for exhaust gas measurement is set to work at near-IR using both DA and WMS methods. Also use of fiber-coupled optical elements makes such a sensor rugged and easy to align. On-line data acquisition and processing can be performed with a PC running LabVIEW software, and absorption signals are measured simultaneously by multiplexing method. Finally, It were experimentally compared WMS (Wavelength Modulation Spectroscopy) with DA (Direct Absorption) for the accuracy.
