Geotextile have been used for the past 30 years for various types of containers, such as small sandbag, 3-D fabric forms and aggregate filled gabion etc. While they are mainly used for flood and water control, they are also used against beach erosion fir shore protection. Especially, large-sized geotextile tube structures are used in various innovative coastal systems involving breakwaters. This paper presents the hydrodynamic behavior of geotextile tubes based on the results of hydraulic model tests. These tube are generally about 1.0 m to 2.0 m in diameter, thou띤 they can be sized for any application. The tubes can be used solely, or stacked to add greater height and usability. Stacked geotextile tubes will be created by adding the height necessary for some breakwaters and embankment, therefore increasing the usability of geotextile tubes. The hydraulic model test was conducted as structural condition and wave conditions. Structural condition is installation direction to the wave (perpendicular and 45$^{circ}$$), and wave condition is varied with the significant wave height ranging from 3.0 m to 6.0 m. Compared with previous test result, the stacked geotextile tube is more stable against wave attack than single tube. Also, the case of none-water depth above crest is more stable than 0.5H of water depth above crest. The incline installed stacked tube is more effective for wave adsorption.
A submerged breakwater is a coastal structure built under water with excellent landscape. The depth of the crest of the breakwater should be maintained at more than a certain level in order for the submerged breakwater to control waves properly. This means that the effect of blocking waves deceases sharply at high tide in coastal areas with large tidal differences. In this study, we proposed a Tide-Adapting Submerged Breakwater (TA-SB) to overcome this problem, and then we conducted hydraulic model experiments to evaluate the performance of the TA-SB for controlling waves. The experimental results showed that the tapered wings attached to the crest of the TA-SB helped induce forced breaking waves. In particular, they were very effective in blocking waves and attenuating wave energy at high tide. In addition, the wave control performance of the proposed TA-SB was far superior to the Tide-Adapting Low-Crested Structure (TA-LCS) of the previous study.

Ocean wave parameters are important for safety and efficiency of operation and routing of marine traffic. In this paper, by using X-band marine radar, we try to develop an effective algorithm for collecting ocean surface information such as current velocity, wave parameters. Specifically, by exploiting iterative refinement flow instead of using fixed control schemes, an effective algorithm is designed in such a way that it can not only compute efficiently the optimized current velocity but also introduce new cost function in an optimized way. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is very effective in retrieving the wave information compared to the conventional algorithms.

In this paper, the interaction of oblique incident waves with a bottom-mounted and fluid-filled flexible membrane structure is investigated in the frame of linear hydro-elastic theory. The static shape of a membrane structure containing the fluid of a specific density is initially unknown and must be calculated before the hydrodynamic analysis. To solve hydrodynamic problem, the fluid domain is divided into the inner and outer region. The inner solution based on discrete membrane dynamic model and simple-source distribution over the entire fluid boundaries is matched to the outer solution ba~ed on an eigenfunction expansion method. The numerical results were compared to a series of Ohyama's experimental results. The measured reflection and tran¬smission coefficients reasonably follow the trend of predicted values. Using the computer program developed, the performance of a bottom-mounted and fluid-filled flexible membrane strocture is tested with various system parameters (membrane shape, internal pressure, density ratio) and wave characteristics (wave frequencies, incident wave angle). It is found that a bottom-mounted and fluid-filled flexible membrane structure can be an effel;tive wave barrier if properly designed.

Multipurpose development of the coast and ocean can be considered as multifunction construction combining the functions of coastal protection, waterfront amenity and creation or rehabilitation of habitats. Multfunction development of coastal and ocean spaces can be accomplished by applying the ecosystem control structure of artificial habitats which will cultivate fishing ground with ecological harmony to the coastal protection system. To evaluate the applicability of ecosystem control structures as as fundamental coastal protection structure, wave control function of the structure is studied by numerical and physical analyses. Dimensional analysis and hydraulic experiment point out the importance of width and crest depth of ecosystem control structure, construction water depth and wave steepness. Wave control efficiency is estimated by the attenuation coefficient $(K_H)$ according to wave steepness $(H_0/L_0)$, relative constructed water depth $(h_i/H_0)$, relative berm width $(B/L_0)$ and relative crest depth $(h_B/H_0)$ of eosystem control structure. Empirical fomulas are suggested based on the results of model test by applying the multiple model based on this experimental results and numerical wave shoaling-dissipation-breaking model appears to be valid for the analysis of wave transformation around ecosystem control structure in the coastal waters.

The wave spectrum was generated from wave data measured at the Chagwi-do site in Jeju, where a 10MW class floating wave-offshore wind hybrid power generation system will be installed. The latching control technology (Sheng et al.[2015]) was applied in order to improve the extracted power from WEC (Wave Energy Converter), which is heaving in corresponding irregular waves. The peak period as a representative value of irregular waves was used when we determined the latching duration. From the numerical results in the time-domain analysis, the latching control technology can significantly improve the extracted power about 50%.
This paper presents the design of a submerged breakwater, which functions as an eco-structure in a marine environment. Newly patented blocks were used in the submerged breakwater to both make it stable and provide an inhabitable space for fish. To investigate the wave transmission of the proposed submerged breakwater, parametric studies were conducted through two-dimensional hydraulic tests, which were carried out at the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) in South Korea. Those parameters are relative crest width (B/L), wave steepness (H/L), relative crest depth (hB/H), and submerged breakwater configuration. The hydraulic experimental results can be used to predict the performance of the proposed submerged breakwater covered with the multi-function blocks.
