  • 일반 구조용 탄소강은 수용액 중에 노출될 때 부식에 의한 손상을 받기 쉽다. 부식의 양지를 위한 방법으로 사용 매체 중에 부식억제제를 첨가하여 탄소강의 부식속도를 낮추는 방법은 흔히 사용되는 방법이다. 부식억제제는 부식억제의 원리에 따라 양극부식억제제, 음극부식억제제 그리 고 이들의 혼합부삭억 세제 둥 여러 종류가 목적에 따라 사용되고 있다. 일반적으로 부식억제제의 성능 평가에는 무게감량볍, 표면분석법, 분극거동측정, 부석전위, 선 형분극법에 의한 부식속도 측정 등 다양한 방법이 시도되고 있다. 이 중에서 전기화학적 평가볍 은 부삭억제제의 작용 기구 규명 등을 위하여 많이 사용되고 있다. 한편 제품의 개발 단계에서 실질적인 평가법으로 갈리 사용하고 있는 방법은 무게 감량법인데 이 방법은 전면부식에 의한 금 속 손실량을 측정하여 부식억제능을 측정하는 방법이다. 그러냐 실제로 부삭억제제가 사용되고 있는 환경에서의 부식양상을 판찰하여보면 전면부식에 의한 손상보다는 국부부식에 의한 손상이 보다 치명적언 경우를 종종 목격할 수 있다. 이러한 관점에서 가존의 무게감량법은 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 국부부식을 보다 효과적으로 평가하기 위해 새로운 시험법을 도 입 상용 부식억제제의 종류별로 비교하였다. 부식억제제로는 수용액 중의 부식억제제로 널리 사용되고 있는 Nalco 39L과 본 연구실에서 SK해미칼과 공동 개발한 GH-110 등에 대하여 MCA(Multiple Crevice Assembly)를 이용 틈부식 저항성을 평가하였다. 또한 박막화된 전기저항형 부석속도 측정 센서를 틈부식 형태의 부식측정 에 적용하는 연구를 행하였다. 시험에 사용한 재갚는 천연가스의 감압 온도보상용으로 운전하는 가스히터의 주 구성 재료인 저탄소강을 사용하였으며 열화된 부식억제제 용액으로 사용기간이 서로 다른 수용액들에 대하여 평가 방법을 적용하여 비교하였다 다양한 부식억 제 제 수용액을 비교한 결과 MCA(Multiple Crevice Assembly)를 이용한 틈부식 억제능 시험은 실제 현장 사험 결과와 어느 정도 일치하는 결과를 보였다. 새로운 틈부식 저항성 측정법으로 시도한 철박막을 이용 틈부식 측정법은 육안 검사를 실시하지 않고도 틈부식의 전행 여부를 확인할 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다.

A Study on the Crevice Corrosion Behavior of Chromium Plating (크롬도금의 틈부식 거동에 관한 연구)

  • This study was made on the crevice corrosion behavior of chromium plating in fresh water. Under the various crevice, the electrochemical polarization test of chromium plating was carried out. Results are discussed In terms of corrosion potential, polarization resistance, corrosion current density and cathodic control of chromium plating.

Crevice Corrosion Properties of PWR Structure Materials Under Reductive Decontamination Conditions (환원제염조건에서 가압경수로 구조재료의 틈부식 특성)

  • Crevice corrosion tests were conducted to examine the corrosion properties of HYBRID (HYdrazine Base Reductive metal Ion Decontamination) which was developed to decontaminate the PWR primary coolant system. To compare the corrosion properties of HYBRID with commonly existing decontamination agents, oxalic acid (OA) and citric oxalic acid (CITROX) were also examined. Type 304 Stainless Steel (304 SS) and Alloy 600 which are major components of the primary coolant system in Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) were evaluated. Crevice corrosion tests were conducted under very aggressive conditions to confirm quickly the corrosion properties of primary coolant system structure components which have high corrosion resistance. Pitting and IGA were occurred in crevice surface under OA and CITROX conditions. But localized corrosion was not observed under HYBRID condition. Very low corrosion rate of less than $1.3{\times}10^{-3}{\mu}m/h$ was observed under HYBRID condition for both materials. On the other hand, under OA condition, Alloy 600 indicated comparatively uniform corrosion rate of $4.0{\times}10^{-2}{\mu}m/h$ but 304 SS indicated rapid accelerated corrosion in lower case than pH 2.0. In case of HYBRID condition, general corrosion and crevice corrosion were scarcely occurred. Therefore, material integrity of HYBRID in decontamination of primary coolant system in pressurized water reactor (PWR) reactor was conformed.

A Study on the Crevice Corrosion for Ferritic Stainless Steel (페라이트 스테인리스강의 틈부식에 대한 연구)

  • In recently days, the breed fish farm is increased in the beach side for farming fish. In such a farm, the heater is requested for preventing freezing in cold season. The heating material are requested high corrosion resistance and strength for endurance high corrosive salt and pressure. In case of low corrosion resistance and/or strength, the heating element shall be broke down and eventually make spillage or leaking contaminated salt. In the most cases, crevice corrosion is localized form of corrosion usually associated with a stagnant solution on the micro-environmental level. In this study, the crevice corrosion of Ferritic type 430 stainless steel is investigated. The size of specimen is $15{\times}20{\times}3mmt$. Test solution is 1N H2SO4 + 0.05N NaCl. The artificial crevice gap size is $0.24{\times}3{\times}15mmL$. Crevice corrosion is measured under applied voltage 300mV(SCE) to the external surface. the result of this study showed that 1) the induced time for initiation of crevice is 750seconds, 2) potential is dropped in the crevice from the top of gap opening from -320 to -399mV. The result confirmed that the potential drop(IR mechanism) in the crevice is one of mechanism for crevice corrosion.

  • In these days, with development of industry, the use of machines and structures like ships, airplanes, bridges, power plants, and structure for construction has increased and these machines and structures are used in various corrosive environment. Especially, in case of STS 304, which is material for every kind of machine and chemical plant, it makes many problems related with corrosion and as a result of this, there are happening tremendous economic loss. Therefor, in this study, the test for polarization characteristics was carried out to study characteristics of crevice corrosion of STS 304 which is austenitic stainless steel, in NaCl environment.The main results obtained are as follows :1) Part of crevice is corroded, neighboring outside surface of crevice is passivation. 2) In polarization behavior, corrosion potential of STS 304 become more noble as the concentration of NaCl solution increased by 3.5% but the concentration increased over 3.5% that of STS 3.4 become less noble. 3) The current density under corrosion potential was high drained as concentration of NaCl solution increased by 3.5% but the concentration increased over 3.5%, the current density was low drained.

An Electrochemical Evaluation on the Crevice Corrosion of 430 Stainless Steel with Variation of Crevice Wide by Micro Capillary Tubing Method (Micro Capillary Tube 방법을 이용한 430 스테인레스강 틈의 폭변화에 따른 틈부식의 전기화학적 평가)

  • In this study, the IR drop theory was adopted to explain the initiation of crevice corrosion in the framework of IR drop in crevice electrolyte. Furthermore, the electrochemical polarization was measured to study the mechanism of crevice corrosion for type STS430 stainless steel. lest method adopts under condition that the size of specimen is $10\times20\times5mm,\;in\;1N\;H_2SO_4+0.1N\;NaCl$ solution, and the artificial crevice gap sizes are three kinds, the Micro capillary tube size is inner diameter 0.04 mm, outer diameter 0.08 mm. Crevice corrosion is measured under the applied voltage of passivation potential -200mV/SCE, resulted from anodic potentio-dynamic polarization to the external surface along the crevice. The potential difference was measured by depth profile by Micro capillary tube which inserted in the crevice. The obtained results of this study showed that 1) As artificial crevice gap size became narrow, the current density was increased, whereas no crevice corrosion was found in the crevice gap size $3\times0.5\times16mm\;in\;1N\;H_2SO_4+0.1N\;NaCl\;solution\;at\;20^{\circ}C$ 2) potential of the crevice was about from -220 to -358mV which is lower than that of external surface potential of -200mV The results so far confirmes that the potential drop(so-called IR drop) in the crevice is one of the major mechanisms the process of crevice corrosion for 430 stainless steel.

  • Crevice corrosion is localized form of corrosion usually associated with a stagnant solution on the micro-environmental level. Such stagnant micro environments tend to occur in crevices (shielded areas) such as those formed under gaskets washers insulation material. fastener heads. surface deposits. disbonded coatings. threads. lap joints and clamps. Crevice corrosion is initiated by changes in located electrochemical reaction within the crevice such as a) depletion of inhibitor in the crevice b) depletion of oxygen in the crevice c) a shift to acid conditions in the crevice and d) build-up of aggressive ion species (e.g chloride) in the crevice. In this study. the mechanism of crevice corrosion for Type 430 stainless steel is investigated undercondition that the size of specimen is $15{\times}20\{times}3mm$, in 1N $H_2SO_4$ + 0.05N NaCl solution. and the artificial crevice gap size of 3 x 0.2 x 15 mm. Crevice corrosion is measured under applied potential -300mV(SCE) to the external surface. The obtained result of this study showed that 1) the induced time for initiation of crevice is 750 seconds. 2) potential of the crevice was about from -320mV to -399mV. which is lower than that of external surface potential of -300mV It is considered that potential drop in the crevice is one of mechanisms for the crevice corrosion

Optimum Cathodic Protection for Stainless Steel Shaft of Small-Size Boat (소형선박용 스테인리스강 축의 음극방식 응용)

  • Stainless steel has been stably used closed by passivity oxidation films($Cr_2O_3$) is made by neutral atmospheric environment. However, passivity oxidation films of the surface of stainless steel occasionally comes to be destroyed in seawater which is influenced by an environment having halogen ion like $Cl^-$, then, localization corrosion comes to occur. Stainless steel 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments made an experiment on simulation of sacrifical anode(Al, Zn). Through these experiment and study, following results have been obtained ; According to the field inspection and corrosion simulation, the corrosion on the 2nd class stainless steel shaft(STS 304) in FRP fishing boat has been verified to occur by crevice corrosion and galvanic corrosion etc.. According to the comparison and analysis of Stainless steel 304 shaft materials after simulation leaving unprotected and applying cathodic protection, unprotected shaft specimen of stainless steel 304 was severely corroded, but, protected shaft specimen was not totally corroded. This result is assumed to be made by the facts that anodic reaction, $Fe{\rightarrow}Fe^{2+}$ + $2e^-$, has been restricted by the cathodic protection current of sacrificial anode material.

  • Crevice corrosion is the accelerated attack occurred in the occluded cell under a crevice on the metal surface. Crevice corrosion behaviors of nickel-based alloys such as Alloy 600 and Alloy 690 were investigated in acidic solution with different chloride ion concentrations. Tests were carried out using the specially designed crevice cell with a very narrow Luggin capillary assembly to measure the potential inside the crevice. It is believed that crevice corrosion in active/passive system like nickel-based alloys has much to do with the properties of passive film and its repassivation characteristics, investigated by the capacitance measurement and by the abrading electrode technique, respectively. An attempt was made to elucidate the relationship between crevice corrosion behaviors, properties of passive film and its repassivation kinetics. Results showed that repassivation rate parameter $n1{\leq}0.6$ and/or $n2{\leq}0.5$ indicated the possible occurrence of crevice corrosion.

The Crevice Corrosion Behavior of AISI 304 & 316L Stainless Steel Welded by TIG, MIG, CO2 and SMA (용접방법에 따른 AISI 304 및 316L스테인리스강 용접부의 틈부식 거동)

  • The crevice corrosion behavior on austenitic AISI 304 and 316L stainless steel welded by TIG, MIG, $CO_2$ and SMA was studied. The results are as follows : In 10% $FeCl_3$ solution and natural sea water sampled near Mokpo port, the base metal of 304 stainless steel showed small amount corrosion, whereas 316L stainless steel did not showed any corrosion in the test periods. The weight loss caused by crevice corrosion increased with increasing weld heat input and residual .delta. ferrite formed in welded part. The corrosion resistance of the welded part was in the order of TIG, MIG, $CO_2$ and SMA. From this tendency, it is proved that the smaller heat input gives the better corrosion resistance.
