  • 특허의 가치를 평가하기 위해서는 특허 데이터에 포함된 다양한 지표가 활용될 수 있으며, 최근 다양한 지표를 머신 러닝 기법으로 분석하여 특허의 가치를 평가하는 연구가 증가하고 있다. 특허의 가치를 올바르게 평가하기 위해서는 여러 지표 중에서 어떤 지표가 특허의 가치에 크게 기여 하는지 판단할 수 있어야 하며, 이에 따라 지표별로 적절한 가중치를 설정할 수 있어야 한다. 제안된 방법은 회귀 모델 기반으로 다양한 지표에 가중치를 적용하여 특허 피인용수를 예측하였으며, 특허 패밀리 수에 적용되는 가중치를 변경하면서 특허 패밀리 수가 특허의 가치에 미치는 영향을 검증하였고, 특허 가치 평가 과정에서 특허 패밀리 수의 중요성에 대해 확인하였다.

  • In light of the fact that the effect of intellectual property rights like patent on enterprise competitiveness is growing, rational valuation of patent rights, which are own by enterprises, is required because accurate patent valuation can bring about the activation of the technology exchange market and enhancing the values of enterprises as well as the security of funds through technology security. However, in reality, interest in the value of patent rights is not great due to many variables, affecting patent rights, and diverse attributes, and non-generalized methods of valuation. Therefore, studies on patent valuation for patent management of Small and Medium Enterprises is required. This thesis examined patent valuation for the patent management of Small and Medium Enterprises based on literature studies, and attempted to find factors, affecting patent valuation by finding patent valuation factors through experts, organizing, and analyzing these factors. 10 essential factors, which are demonstrated in this research, are the commercialization possibilities of technology, market competitiveness, the possibility of technology commercialization, market size, the originality of acquired technology, the stability of the right(the possibility of invalidating), the level of technology, technology competitiveness, the ripple effect of technology, and the characteristics of technology(original technology/application technology).

A Study on the Appropriateness of Intellectual Property Valuation: The Patent Valuation of Korea Technology Finance Corporation (지식재산평가의 적정성에 대한 연구: 기술보증기금의 특허가치평가를 중심으로)

  • Recently, the value of intellectual property rights including patents has been estimated for various purposes. In particular, the evaluation of loans, guarantees and collateral through patent valuation is increasing with the revitalization of technology financing. Although various studies have been conducted on patent valuation, little research has been done on the adequacy of patent valuation. In this study, using the DCF model, which is the most commonly used method of technology valuation, we examine the appropriateness of the patent valuation by comparing and analyzing the estimated value and actual value of the patent. An empirical result shows that the difference between estimated value and the actual value is statistically significant, and there is a significant difference between the estimated value and the actual value depending on the classification of evaluation work. In addition, while there is no difference between professors, patent attorneys, and researchers in the analysis of value differences according to technical evaluators, there is a significant difference between patent attorneys and other evaluators. Finally, we find a significant value difference between estimated value and actual value of technology subject to evaluation by industry.

  • This study is a new evaluation using the Arrhenius equation, which is known as the chemical reaction rate estimation equation, to evaluate the intrinsic and extrinsic value elements of patents as a model. The performance of the evaluation model was superior to the SVM, Logistic reg. and ANN models that were used as patent evaluation models in prior studies. In addition, there was a strong correlation between the predicted lifespan of the patent and the actual lifespan of the patent. These evaluation models may be used for evaluation purposes only, or if an evaluation is required, including a commercialization entity or technical characteristics.

  • Intangible assets are the important tool which decides upon economic wealth and development of knowledge-information economy. We have to make effective use of intangible assets in order to assure surplus earnings, competitive superiority. The importance of intangible assets, especially patent right, may be properly understood only when their values are assessed adequately. It is very significant to appraise rationally patent right value from finance support, technology transaction, investment decision, M&A, legal proceedings, strategy and etc. Thus the purpose of this study is to evaluate the economic value of a patent right using DCF(Discounted-Cash Flow Method). This paper presents the basic model, related principles and standards of valuation, and then, case analysis of patent right valuation using DCF.

A Study on the Technology Valuation Using Patent Information (컨조인트 기법을 활용한 기술 가치 평가모형: 전기·전자 분야 특허거래 실증 분석)

  • In the era of fierce global competition and short product life cycle, firms have been interested in the technology valuation to improve their competitiveness. As the technology valuation may become a key issue for countries and industries, the development of technology valuation method has become increasingly important. Thus, this study aims to suggest a novel method to assess technology value by applying conjoint analysis to bibilographic information of patent. For this purpose, we firstly identified nine patent indexes categorized in three attributes - technological superiority, marketability and legal rights. Then, we collected actual data on patent transactions including their patent attributes and market prices. Based on the data, we could obtain the patent index values. Finally, we applied conjoint analysis to the prices and patent index values as a basis for technology valuation. The suggested method is expected to be an effective tool for technology valuation by using real transaction data rather than relying heavily on experts assessment.

  • Recently, with the conversion towards knowledge-based economy era, the importance of the evaluation for patent valuation has been growing rapidly because technology transactions are increasing with the purpose of practically utilizing R&D outcomes such as technology commercialization and technology transfer. Nevertheless, there is a lack of research on determinants of patent valuation by analyzing technology transactions due to the difficulty of collecting data in practice. Hence, to suggest quantitative determinants for the patent valuation which could be applied to scoring methods, 15 patent valuation models domestically and overseas are analysed in order to assure the objectiveness for subjective results from qualitative methods such as expert surveys, comparison assessment, etc. Through this analysis, the important 6 common determinants are drawn and patent information is matched which can be used as proxy variables of individual determinant factors by advanced researches. In addition, to validate whether the model proposed has a statistically meaningful effect, total 517 technology transactions are collected from both public and private technology transaction offices and analysed by multiple regression analysis, which led to significant patent determinant factors in deciding its value. As a result, it is herein presented that patent connectivity(number of literature cited) and commercialization stage in market influence significantly on patent valuation. The meaning of this study is in that it suggests the significant quantitative determinants of patent valuation based on the technology transactions data in practice, and if research results by industry are systematically verified through seamless collection of transaction data and their monitoring, we would propose the customized patent valuation model by industry which is applicable for both strategic planning of patent registration and achievement assessment of research projects (with representative patents).

  • The innovation is an important element controlling national economic growth and the competitive power reinforcement of the company. The developed nations concentrate interest on upbringing and investment in knowledge intensive industry and advanced technology base industry for national competitive power reinforcement. I support in particular it as Korean representative industry in the case of the advanced technology base industry positively in the government. Though a patent can become the important competition predominance element of the company by such an advanced technology base industry, this and the proof study in the country to be concerned with are the facts that are not enough now. As for the article of the book, what kind of difference there is in importance by IT and BT industry distinction comment on current events value factors of the patent valuation; of the study is aimed. I derived an importance factor among factors shown in the valuation model of the patent valuation organization and an existing precedent study for comparison analysis in the study and used it. In addition, it was analysis hello it utilized AHP technique, and what kind of difference patent value evaluation important factors showed by IT and BT industry distinction. Analysis, Because patent value evaluation important factors showed a difference by industrial distinction, I appeared.

  • A variety of methods of patent valuation are written in this paper. The typical methods such as scoring method, income approach method, market approach method, DCF method, real option method, are introduced in this paper and each of them is criticized respectively. A new method, so called "GVP Method", is introduced and shows how much effective it is when patent valuation is required.   • 지식기반경제에서는 기식을 창출하거나 활용하는 능력이 기업의 경쟁력을 결정하는 중요한 요소가 될 뿐만 아니라 국가적 경쟁우위의 기본이 된다. 산업경제에서 지식기반경제로의 이행이 가속화됨에 따라 부동 산 및 설비 등 유형자산 보다는 노하우, 특허권 등의 무형자산이 기업 경쟁력에 미치는 영향이 더욱 커지고 있다. 유형자산과 마찬가지로 기업이 소유하고 있는 무형자산인 특허권의 합리적 가치평가도 중요하다. 왜냐하면 특허 가치의 정확한 평가는 기술 거래 시장의 활성화를 가져올 수 있고 또한 기업의 특허전략 수립에 필수적이기 때문이다. 하지만 유형자산과는 달리 무형자사인 특허권의 정확한 가치평가는 매우 어려운 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 특허가치 평가에 영향을 미치는 요소들을 살펴보고자 함에 있으며, 그 중에서도 제품 특성에 초점을 맞추었다.
