Feasibility of Co-Digestion of Sewage Sludge, Swine Waste, and Food Waste Leachate (하수슬러지, 돈분뇨, 음식물쓰레기 탈리액 병합소화 타당성 평가)

  • Feasibility of co-digestion was investigated by a series of anaerobic batch experiments using sewage sludge, swine waste, and food waste leachate as substrates. The organic solid wastes were collected from M city, where the daily productions of sewage sludge, swine waste, and food waste leachate were 178 ton/d, 150 ton/d, and 8 ton/d, respectively. Both swine waste and food waste leachate showed superior methane yields, methane productivities, and organic pollutant removal efficiencies compared to sewage sludge. Co-digestion of the total amounts of organic solid wastes would enhance methane production by 5.60 times $(530\;m^{3}\;CH_{4}/d\;{\rightarrow}\;2,968\;m^{3}\;CH_{4}/d)$. However, it also increase the amount of digestate by 1.88 times with 3.79 to 4.92 times higher pollutants (chemical oxygen demands total nitrogen, and total phosphorus) loading rates. Co-digestion of organic solid wastes is a valid strategy to enhance the performance of an anaerobic sludge digester and the energy independence of a wastewater treatment plant. Anyhow,the increment of digestate with higher pollutant loading would need a careful counterplan in the operation of the main stream of the treatment plant.

Preparation Condition and Product Quality of Precooked Redbean Porridge (즉석팥죽 제조를 위한 가공조건 및 제품의 품질)

  • Precooked powder of redbean porridge (RP) was prepared by the series of process extrusion, drying, milling and blending with a mixture of whole redbean flour and corn starch and others. The optimum process and quality of products for RP were investigated. After extrusion under the moisture content 24 to 26%, twin screw speed 350 rpm, extrusion temperature 150 to $155^{\circ}C$ and feed rate 60 kg/hr, the product had a higher quality with its natural redbean flavor/color. During the extrusion process, extrusion temperature and specific mechanical energy increased from 150 to $198^{\circ}C$ and from 134 to 144 kwh/ton respectively, as the amount of addition water decreased from 6 to 2 kg/hr. By the hot air drying of redbean extrudate (RE). it could be dried below to 4% moisture content, of which level considered as an optimal moisture content for anti-caking of the powdered product, at $80^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs and at $100^{\circ}C$ for 1.5 hrs respectively. In the sieve analysis of extrudate powder, when the product milled through a mesh size of 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm, about 80% or 65% of the feed was passed a 65 mesh screen respectively. Moisture absorption of final blended products was formed a cake under 100% of relative humidity after 13 hrs of storage. As the amount of RE powder reduced, the flavor score of products decreased by sensory evaluation of products prepared by the different ratio of RE powder, corn starch and sugar.

Product Characteristics as Factors of Process Parameters in Starch Phosphates Preparation by Twin-screw Extruder (이축압출성형기로 인산전분 제조시 Process Parameters에 따른 제품의 특성)

  • Starch phosphates were prepared from the corn starch mixed with 2% sodium tripolyphosphate by twin-screw extruder with a feed rate of 20 kg/hr and an extrusion temperature of $130^{\circ}C$, and the effects of extrusion variables on the physicochemical properties (target parameters) of starch phosphates were investigated. Interrelations of system parameters (specific mechanical energy and extrudate moisture) and rheological properities of starch was analyzed by using the response surface analysis. Degree of substitution (DS) was increased with increasing the feed moisture, and showed the maximum value at the screw of near 250 rpm, Degree of gelatinization was proportionally increased with increasing the screw speed and decreasing the feed moisture. Apparent viscosity of the paste was increased with increasing the feed moisture, but it was not significantly affected by the screw speed. It was found by scanning electron microscopy that the starch microgranules were much more degradaded, and as consequent result, the intrinsic viscosity was decreased, whereas, water solubility index was increased. The rate of retrogradation of the gels was retarded with increasing DS and decreasing viscosity.

  • In order to reduce energy input in direct ethanol production from raw starch by co-immobilized Aspergillus awamori(A) and Zymomonas mobilis(Z), A-Z 36 culture system which was changed to anaerobic after 36 h of aerobic fermentation without sterilization was investigated. This immobilized cell system can not be carried out under unsterile conditions because of growth of microbial contaminants from original medium. Among some food additives such as sorbic acid, benzoic acid, dehydroacetic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, Vantocil IB and Neupectin-L, Vantocil IB and Neupectin-L were a potent antibacterial agent in A-Z 36 culture cell system and were not affected in hydrolysis of substrate as compared with the case of control. Ethanol yield(6.9 g/l) in system of addition of 0.1% Neupectin-L was slightly higher than that in control(6.4 g/l). When 2% starch was fed five times in fed-batch culture with 0.1% Neupectin-L, ethanol yield and productivity were 34 g/l and 2.0 g/l/day, respectively.

A Study on the Optimization of District Heating and Cooling Facilities (지역냉난방사업의 설비 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • For the district heating and cooling business, it is required to install energy-saving facilities using energy from waste and land fill gases such as combined heat and power(CHP). The current issues that this business faces can be summarized as below: which facilities including CHP can be economically introduced and how much of their capacities should be. Most of such issues are clearly related to the optimal plant design of the district heating and cooling business, and the prices of energy services such as heating and cooling energy, and electricity. The purpose of this study is to establish linear program model of least cost function and to practice the empirical test on a assumed district heating and cooling business area. The model could choose the optimal type of energy-producing facilities among various kinds available such as CHP's, absorption chillers, the ice-storage system, etc. CHP with the flexible heat and power ratio is also in the set of available technologies. And the model show us the optimal ration of heat producing facilities between CHP and historical heat only boiler in the service area. Some implications of this study are summarized as below. Firms may utilize this model as a tool for the analysis of their optimal size of the facilities and operation. Also, the government may refer the results to regulate resonable size of business.

  • Iindium-tin-oxide (ITO) material was had to use in display application as transparent electrode. However it would be problems comes up, the depletion of indium, tin and energy consumption of production process. Therefore recently trend was demanded alternative ITO material and recycling/reused ITO. In this conditions, the environmental impact have to express correct value about recycling/reused ITO process. The life cycle assessment was valuable method in this process. Thus first step was carried out separating in/out put (material) sources and then, exactive data base (DB) was applied. The result of environment impact was calculated by affect categories and recycling rate was set to 34% (This value was measured in previous project). The rate (g) of ITO material was calculated by chemical equivalent. In result, environmental impact were revealed acidification potential and abiotic depletion and if do not recycle/reuse ITO, $ 476 per 1 ton waste in land.

Performance of a Commercial Scale Radio-frequency/vacuum Dryer Combined with a Mechanical Compressive Load (산업용 규모의 압체고주파진공건조시스템 성능 평가)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the performance of a radio-frequency/vacuum dryer combined with a mechanical compressive load (RF/VC) with a scale of about $3m^3$ during drying board of Azobe (Lophira alata) and Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora). The degree of vacuum of the RF/VC system was maintained at 80~105 torr, and wood temperature was increased from $40^{\circ}C$ at the beginning of drying to $60^{\circ}C$ at the end of drying and the radiofrequency generator was operated with schedule of 7 minute-ON and 3 minute-OFF. The wood temperatures near charge plate always remained higher than those of the control during all of the drying stage, whereas the wood temperature near ground plate always remained lower than those of the controlled. As drying time proceeding, the temperature of the wood near ground plate presented lower than those of the control. Whereas the temperature of the wood near charge plate presented higher than those of the controlled. The final average moisture contents of the Azobe boards stacked near the input side of the RF generator showed slightly lower than those near the opposite side. Those of the wood stacked in the layers near the charge plate were lower than those of near the ground plate. The average length of surface checks of the Azobe boards stacked near the charge plate was very slight, whereas that toward the ground plate represented high values. The efficiency of input energy was simliar with the commercial systems.

Solid-liquid Separation Characteristics of Membrane Filter Press according to Coagulant Properties of Anaerobic Digestion Waste Water (혐기소화폐액의 응집제 특성에 따른 멤브레인 필터프레스의 고액분리 특성)

  • Recently, it is increase in the processing of organic waste using anaerobic digestion. Therefore, the studies on the processing method for increasing the anaerobic digestion waste water. But it is very difficult to solid-liquid separation, because the characteristics of anaerobic digestion waste water. So this study evaluate solid-liquid separation efficiency of anaerobic digestion sludge using CST(Capillary Suction Time), TTF(Time to Filter). To address this problem, a membrane filter press of the lab scale was produced and the anaerobic digestion wastewater was applied to it. Polymer coagulants were found to be most suitable 7192PLUS and 1T60, It is necessary to minimum injection concentration is 7192PLUS (200 mg/L), 1T60 (100 mg/L). To evaluate dehydration efficiency, it was measured the moisture content of the dehydrated cake and suspended solids of decanted water. As a result, showed that a high removal efficiency of 97.4% when the solid-liquid separation using the membrane filter press. And the moisture content of the dehydrated cake was less than 65%.

The Experimental Study on The Compressive Strength of Mortar Using High Quality Recycled Fine Aggregate Produced by Sulphuric Water and Low Speed Wet Abraser (황산수와 저속습식마쇄기로 생산된 고품질 순환 잔골재의 모르타르 압축강도에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Recycled fine aggregate has low quality because it contains large amount of old mortar. So, its usage is limited to a lower value-add, such as the roadbed material etc. Also, alkaline water occurred from treatment process of the waste concrete is becoming the cause of environmental problem. Accordingly, this study is to develop on the high quality recycled fine aggregate produced by low speed wet abraser using sulphuric. We investigated the properties of compressive strength of the mortar which was manufactured using recycled fine aggregate containing calcined gypsum produced by earlier mentioned process. Test results indicate that mortar using recycled fine aggregate containing calcined gypsum has lowest compressive strength. It seems that low compressive strength is closely associated with the expansion of the specimen by excessive formation of ettringite.

Effects of Gluten and Moisture Contents on Texturization of Extruded Soy Protein Isolate (글루텐 함량과 수분 함량이 압출성형 분리대두단백의 조직화에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of gluten and moisture contents on the physical properties of extruded soy protein isolate. Extrusion conditions included various moisture (45, 50, and 55%) and gluten contents (20, 40, and 60%) at a fixed screw speed and die temperature of 250 rpm and $140^{\circ}C$, respectively. Specific mechanical energy input decreased as gluten content increased from 20 to 60%. Hydration ratio was highest ($293.23{\pm}13.68%$) at gluten and moisture contents of 20 and 55%, respectively. Lightness and yellowness increased as gluten content increased from 20 to 60% while redness decreased as gluten content increased. Color difference was the highest at low gluten and moisture contents. Integrity index was the highest ($71.15{\pm}0.93%$) at gluten and moisture contents of 60 and 45%, respectively. Nitrogen solubility index was not significantly affected by moisture content and was lowest ($22.46{\pm}1.11%$) at gluten and moisture contents of 60 and 55%, respectively. In conclusion, higher gluten and lower moisture contents were effective for texturization of soy protein isolate.
