The design criteria of ventilating container is not provided yet in Korea. This caused strength reduction due to the ventilating hole and bad ventilating performance. The purposes of this study were to survey the present situation of ventilating container in Korea, to analyze the strength reduction on the atmosphere condition variation, and to provide the criteria for the optimum design of ventilating container. The ventilating area of container was $1.41{\sim}2.65%$, and strength reduction due to the varied pattern, size and location of ventilating hole was $8.5{\sim}20.2%$. The effect on the strength reduction from the pattern and location of ventilating hole was bigger than that from the ventilating area. Equilibrium arrival time of temperature and relative humidity was shorter as the ventilating area was bigger, and temperature reached to the equilibrium state earlier than the relative humidity. There was no significant difference on the ventilating hole pattern between equilibrium arrival time of temperature and relative humidity and equilibrium arrival temperature and relative humidity if the ventilating area was the same.
In order to fabricate double-layered porous materials powders of different particle sizes were pressed stepwise. Ford's equation which predicts the fired density with the change in pressed density was employed in order to adjust the difference in sintering shrinkage of the green body with double-layered porous structure. Double-layered porous materials were characterized by investigating microstructures and permeability. SEM micrographs showed the distinct difference in pore sizes of double-layered porous material. Permeability of single-layered porous material increased by increasing the starting particle sizes and porosity as well. Permeability of the double-layered porous material depends largely on the layer of small pore diameter.
Experiments were carried out to find out varietal differences in vascular bundles and air spaces in the internodes, in relation to ear characteristics using plant samples from various N levels. The number and size of large vascular bundles in the internodes increased by increasing N fertilization, especially in the 1st internodes for the numbers, and 3rd, 4th, and 5th internodes for the size. Comparing the varieties, indica/japonica cross-bred varieties had more and larger vascular bundles than japonica varieties. The number of air spaces also increased by the increase of N fertilization. Comparing the varieties, Pungsanbyeo and Chucheongbyeo had more air spaces than Yushin and Jinheung in 3rd or upper internodes. The number and size of vascular bundles and the thickness of internodes had significant correlation with the panicle length, number of primary and secondary branches and number of spikelets per panicle.
Glass lined impellers are corrosion resistant to most chemicals, including strong acids, and also have a smooth, non-stick surface, easy to clean and free from impurities in the process. Glass lined home base impeller is a multi-purpose impeller designed to stir a wide viscosity range of liquids from low viscosity fluids to high viscosity fluids, among others, cell culture, yeast culture, and beer fermentation pots, especially used for air-water system breathable stirring. The glass lining for HB impellers, which are simple in structure and competitive in performance, is essential to have upper and lower division in order to make the joint area between the impeller and shaft as small as possible. The upper and lower division of the impeller hardly affects the mixing performance, but the aeration performance. In this study, in order to optimize the shape of the Glass Lining HB impeller, a study was conducted on the effect of the angle between the upper and lower impellers, the clearance between the impellers, and the number of baffles on the aeration power. The optimal shape and baffle plate conditions for the Glass lined HB impeller were derived through the study results that the angle and the clearance between the upper and lower impellers decreased the ration of the power consumption with aeration Pg and that without aeration P0, Pg/P0.
Hydrophytes such as Spirodela polyrhiza form dormant turions to withstand cold winters. The turion is an anatomically distinct structure from which a vegetative frond arises later during germination. The turions sink to the bottom of the pond when temperatures drop and remain there throughout the winter. In the spring, they float to the surface and germinate into a new frond from the turion primordium. Unlike fronds, turions are known to possess small aerenchyma, starch grains, and relatively dense cytoplasm. These features allow the turions to survive the cold winter season at the bottom of the pond. Spirodela polyrhiza has been investigated previously to a great extent, especially in its physiological, biochemical and ecological attributes. However, a little is known about the structural features of the frond and turion during turion development. Thus, the aim of the present study was to reveal the structural characteristics of the frond and turion with regard to tissue differentiation, aerenchyma development, starch distribution, and ultrastructure, with the use of electron microscopy. A moderate degree of mesophyll tissue differentiation was found in the frond, whereas the turion did not exhibit such differentiation. Within the frond tissue, approximately $37{\sim}45%$ of the cellular volume was occupied by a large aerenchyma, but only $9{\sim}15%$ was taken up by the aerenchyma in the turion. The turion cells, especially those of the turion primordium, were derived from frond cells, and contained cytoplasm. Their cytoplasm was densely packed with plastids, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi bodies, and microtubules. Plasmodesmata were also well developed within these cells. The most striking feature observed was the distribution of starch grains within the plastids of turion cells. Before the turion sank to the bottom of the pond, a considerable amount of starch accumulated in the plastid stroma. The starch grains dissolved when temperatures rose in the spring, and this promptly provided the nutrients which the primordium needed for turion germination. The turion therefore, was an appropriate dormant structure for free-floating, reduced hydrophytes like Spirodela polyhriza due to its small aerenchyma and large starch grains that aided in the purpose of sinking below the surface of the water to survive cold winters. The new fronds that arose from such turions grew rapidly in the spring, beginning the new life cycle.

Curtain-wall systems have been widely applied to buildings because of their lightweight and constructability characteristics. However, as curtain-wall systems include many building materials, vapor barriers can become damaged and condensation can occur. Due to the material properties of stone curtain-walls, the external appearance and structure of a building could be damaged and the insulating performance of the curtain-wall could be worse. Natural ventilation using an air cavity in a curtain-wall is expected to be effective for the prevention of condensation in inner walls and for the reduction of building cooling energy use in the summer. The purpose of this experimental study is to analyze the influence of a ventilated cavity on the insulating performance of a curtain-wall and the ventilated cavity depth and ratio of top opening needed to prevent condensation in a curtain-wall.
Effects of different water potential on the growth and aerenchyma development of Adlay(Coix lacryma-jobi L. var. mayuen) were studied under every 3 days intermittent irrigation as a control at different growth stages, flooded pot condition and drought. Adlay could not germinate in the anaerobic soil conditions with excessive moisture while it wasn't inflicted with moisture damage after sprouting. Sprouted adlay can grow under flooded soil moisture condition because it's root has orthostichy cell, ventilating structure and cortex. Proping or ventilating roots were generated from adlay grown under flooded pots. Drought damage inflicted at the heading stage was the most severe.
High-flow gas insufflation to get a bloodless field during off-pump coronary artery bypass may have adverse effects on the coronary endothelium. This study was designed (1) to elucidate the effect of carbon dioxide gas insufflations on the coronary endothelium at different flow rates and (2) to assess the protective effect of humidifcation against the coronary endothelial damage. Material and Method: In nine pigs, the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) was exposed after a median sternotomy. The LAD was divided into 4 segments and a coronary arteriotomy was made in each LAD segment in the beating heart. The far distal arteriotomy was exposed to room air for 10 minutes and was harvested as a control. Non-humidified carbon dioxide gas at a continuous flow rate of 5 L/min (Group I), humidified carbon dioxide gas at a continuous flow rate of 5 L/min (Group II), and humidified carbon dioxide gas at a continuous flow rate of 10 L/min (Group III) were insufflated for 10 minutes on each coronary arteriotomy site, respectively. After harvesting the coronary segments, hematoxylin-eosin staining, elastic fiber staining, and immunostaining with a CD34 monoclonal antibody were performed to evaluate the depth of endothelial damage and to count the residual endothelial cells, Result: In all three groups (Group I, II, and III), internal elastic laminae were preserved, however, the endothelial layers were significantly damaged by carbon dioxide gas insufflation. The mean percentages of remaining endothelial cells were 20,9$\pm$16.7%, 39.3$\pm$19.6%, and 6.8$\pm$5.3%, in groups I, II, and III, respectively. The percentages of remaining cells were significantly higher in group II than in groups I and III (p=0.008). The percentages of remaining cells were significantly higher in group I than in group III (p=0.008). Conclusions: The harmful effect of carbon dioxide gas insufflation on the coronary endothelium was dependent on the flow rate. The addition of humidification did not protect the coronary endothelium from denudation injury caused by high flow carbon dioxide gas insufflations.
