  • The purpose of this study is to verify the correlation between the appearance frequency of author keyword and the number of citation in journal articles. In this study, we were trying to develop a methodology that can select the term having semantic relation with other terms and higher utilization to build a structured scientific glossary. In order to achieve this purpose, we analyzed the number of citation and the author keyword of the humanities and social science journal articles of the Korea Citation Index (KCI) from 2007 to 2011. This study found a correlation between appearance frequency of author keyword and the number of citation of the journal articles, with higher appearance frequency of author keyword of the journal articles being more cited.

  • This study aims to analyze the research trend of Korean medicine based on social network analysis. To do this, a dataset has been collected from KCI (Korea Citation Index) database. According to the results, we have identify the longitudinal trend of the number of papers, journals, organizations and key words in this field. Moreover, based on the nodes' centrality of co-author network, we have found a core journal (i.e. Korean Journal of Oriental Physiology and Pathology), a hub institution (i.e. Kyunghee university) and two main key words (i.e. anti-oxidation and acupuncture) in the research network. In conclusion, integrating field experts' tacit knowledge in Korean medicine studies with the results of the explicit social network analysis on the research trend, we put forward further policy implications with regard to R&D strategies in this field.

  • In this study, we analyzed KERIS Document Delivery Service (DDS) using its transaction data for the period of nine years from 2004 to 2012. We first examined the overall statistics focusing on member contributions, and conducted a network analysis based on the records of request/response (supply) between member libraries. Key findings include the following: First, in over 80% of member libraries, the number of outgoing requests exceeded the number of their responses to incoming requests. That is, for the vast majority of member libraries, their participation was concentrated on the request side. Second, KERIS DDS relies heavily on a relatively small number of top contributors, especially on the supply side. While the top contributors were active in both requests and responses (supplies), in most cases, they received and processed a disproportionally large number of requests. Third, the network analysis based on DDS requests for journal articles in 2012 further revealed the central role of top contributors. The level and pattern of concentration, however, appeared to differ by subjects (DDC). Three main patterns of centralization were found in different subjects - a network centered on a single member, a network having multiple centers, or a distributed network.

  • This study was to examine the effectiveness of Self-Determination Group Program for children with disabilities in Korea by using method of meta-analysis. For the purpose of the study, master's theses, doctoral dissertations, and journal articles published in Korea up to June, 2017 were systematically reviewed. As a result, a total of 17 studies were eligible for the inclusion criteria. The mean effect sizes and test for homogeneity of effect size(Q-statistic) were analyzed by using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software 2.0. The main findings of the study were as follows. First, the average effect sizes for Self-Determination Group Program were ES=1.695 of Self-Determination, ES= 1.316 of Social Skills. Second, the moderate variables of the effect size for Self-Determination Group Program was 'age' of 'a type of disability', 'sessions', 'the number of sessions within a week', 'time of one session' and 'a major of the director'. Based on the study results, the research and practice implications were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate whether Google Scholar (GS) can substitute Web of Science (WoS) for those who don't have access to the subscription-based indexing service and if users feel GS is useful for scholarly information. To achieve the research purpose, the study evaluates both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the two databases. The major results through statistical analysis show that GS indexes much more records and citations for LIS journals than WoS(p < .01), but users' feedback about GS is not better than those about WoS.

  • Recently collaboration network is generated to find out experts in their field as potential collaborators in health care sector. In this paper, the co-author network of a National Cancer Center researcher was generated for identifying each researcher's role and collaborative research pattern. The co-author network of 2,437 authors was extracted from 1,194 SCI(E) publications from 2000 to 2010 and author's role was analyzed by author's centrality value. Centrality reflecting only the number of papers and centrality weighted by the paper number, impact factor, and authorship contribution was evaluated. On the comparison with simple degree centrality value and the weighted degree centrality, difference of value was statistically significant(t=11.66, p=0.00). Co-author network considering various variables of the paper provides more objective figure of researcher's role. This suggests that co-author network could be more effective in identifying potential collaborators.

For the purpose of the study, master's theses, doctoral dissertations, and journal articles published in Korea up to June, 2015 were systematically reviewed. As a result, a total of 26 studies were eligible for the inclusion criteria. The mean effect sizes and test for homogeneity of effect size(Q-statistic) were analyzed by using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software 2.0. The main findings of the study were as follows. First, the average effect sizes for Positive Psychology Group Program were ES=2.078 of happiness, ES= 1.847 of psychological well-being, ES= 1.645 of positive affect, ES=1.407 of life satisfaction ES=1.289 of self-esteem and ES=-1.208 of depressive symptoms. Second, the moderate variables of the effect size for Positive Psychology Group Program was 'age' of 'psychological well-being' and 'depressive symptoms'. Based on the study results, the research and practice implications were discussed.

  • This study is to identify the effectiveness of English literature in reading instruction using meta-analysis of advanced researches. 80 studies published in Korea were selected for this research wherein the studies are in experimental nature on reading instruction using English literature. The result of the meta-analysis are as follows: Reading instruction with English literature for early children in kindergartens and primary schools showed statistically significant positive effects in both reading abilities and affective domains, in particular for younger children from kindergartners to 2nd graders of primary school. It was more effective when the instructor used top-down approach than bottom-up or balanced approach. No significant coorelation was found between the number of English stories and the students' linguistic ability. Diverse activities tailored to students' need are turned out to be more effective than using same old activities with more stories.

  • Most university libraries in Korea have expanded the subscription of high-quality electronic resources in their amount and category, which are directly available to academic and research users via the web. Despite more than a decade's history, however, a lack of statistics made it difficult to get the overall pictures of electronic resources subscription status in Korea. The purpose of this study is to provide the analysis on nationwide statistics survey of how much money are spent on electronic resources, what kinds of subject resources are mainly subscribed, and how they are used and required by academic users, etc. Some comparisons are made with several factors that have effect on collection development of university libraries. This study will contribute to the future selection and subscription of electronic resources.
