Ductiluty factor has played an important role in seismic design as it is key component of response modification factor(R). In this stuty, ductility factors() are calculated by multiplying ductility factor for SDOF systems() and MDOF modification factors(). Ductility factors() for SDOF systems are computed from nonlinear dynamic analysis undergoing different level of displacement ductiluty demands and period when subjected to a large number of recorded earthquake ground motions. The MDOF modification factors() are proposed to account for the MDOF systems, based on previous studies. A total of 108 prototype steel frames are designed to investigate the ductility factors considering the number of stories(4, 8 and 16-stories), framing system(Perimeter Frames, PF and Distributed Frames, DF), failure mechanism(Strong-Column Weak-Beam, SCWB and Weak-Column Strong-Beam, WCSB), soil profiles(SA, SC and SE in UBC 1997) and seismic zone factors(Z=0.075, 0.2 and 0.4 in UBC 1997). It is shown that the number of stories, failure mechanisms (SCWB, WCSB), and soil profiles have great influence on the ductility factors, however, the structural system(Perimeter frames, Distributed frames), and seismic zones have no influence on the ductility factors.
In order to predict the nonlinear behaviour of the soil, the elasto-plastic hyperbolic model was selected, which was considered to be relatively simple and highly predictable. The soil parameter determination and the behavior analysis program were developed by formalizing the functions related to the constitutive model. Each soil parameter was determined from the results of the drained triaxial compression tests of Baekma river sand with the change of relative density. The stress-strain behavior was predicted using the soil parameters determined under each condition. As a result, the deviator stress for the axial strain is verified to have a good match between the measured value and predicted value at each relative density. In the relationship between the volumetric stain and the axial strain, when the relative density is loose, the measured value and predicted value tend to match, and when relative density is dense, the predicted value of the volumetric strain appears somewhat smaller than the measured value due to the limitation of the constitutive model.
The compression index of clay distributed in the west and south coast of the Korean Peninsula had been studied. Compression index was obtained from the conventional consolidation test, and was conducted accordingly to obtain the field virgin compression curve by means of Schmertmann's graphical correction. To examine a correlation closely between physical properties of soils($e_o$, LL, w) and compression index(Cc), linen. and non-linear regression analysis were employed based on the data collected from tests. The conclusions are as follows. The compression index obtained by means of Schmereann's graphical correction is about 1.16 times for the value of original oedometer test curve for U/D samples. Non-liner regression curve was preferable to establish a correlation equation rather than linear regression curve. All derived equations so far achieved have been summarized and given. However, linear equation is better for practical use so that part by part simplified linear equations were also suggested alternatively together with their own non-linear regression curve.

This study is carried out to minimize the damage to the forest road when locating strip roads in the future for stability of timberland after afforestation by assessing the factors that affect the damage on the forest road surface and making appropriate constructing standards. Major factors that influence damage to the strip road surface were location, longitudinal gradients, soil types, cross-section shape in order of influence on damage. it is considered that structural road factors like longitudinal gradients, road width, location factors such as construction location, slope gradients and road material like soil types were greatly related to occurrence of road surface damage. Damage occurrences in the forest road were severe at the valley, longitudinal gradients of over 24%, weathered granite soil, concave of road position, road width of over 3.0 m. stability was high at longitudinal gradients of 4~24%, road width of under 3.0 m, ridge of road position, straight slope, soil materials. The evaluation table of damage possibility on forest road was manufactured by discriminant analysis using Quantification theory(II). The results showed that the discriminant ratios was 79.4% and this table was available for forest manager.

As a part of study to develop LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) codes for foundation structures in Korea, reliability analyses for driven steel pipe piles are performed and the target reliability indices are selected carefully. The 58 data sets of static load tests and soil property tests conducted in the whole domestic area were collected and analyzed to determine the representative bearing capacities of the piles. The static bearing capacity formula and the Meyerhof method using N values are applied to calculate the expected design bearing capacity of the piles. The resistance bias factors were evaluated for the two static design methods by comparing the representative bearing capacities with the design values. Reliability analysis was performed by two types of advanced methods: First Order Reliability Method (FORM), and Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method using resistance bias factor statistics. The static bearing capacity formula exhibited relatively small variation, whereas the Meyerhof method showed relatively high inherent conservatism in the resistance bias factors. Reliability indices for safety factors in the range of 3 to 5 were evaluated respectively as 1.50~2.89 and 1.61~2.72 for both of the static bearing capacity formula and the Meyerhof method. The target reliability indices are selected as 2.0 and 2.33 for group pile case and 2.5 for single pile case, based on the reliability level of the current design practice and considering redundancy of pile group, acceptable risk level, construction quality control, and significance of individual structure.
This study was carried out to evaluate the fill slope failure possibility of forest road in Metamorphic rock area using fuzzy theory which is non-linear model. The results were summarized as follows. The potential slope failure by nine factors was mainly occurred under the such conditions as the total road width ranging from 4m to 5m, longitudinal gradients below $2^{\circ}$, fill slope length greater than 8m, fill slope gradients steeper than $40^{\circ}$, road on ridge position, soil types with weathered rock, slope gradients steeper than $40^{\circ}$, aspect of NW, and longitudinal slope form in convexity. The weight of importance by factors on fill slope failure was ranked in the order of fill slope length, fill slope gradient, road position, soil type, aspect and longitudinal slope form. The analysis showed that the fill slope failure possibility was low with less than 0.485 of the fuzzy integral value and high with more than 0.620 of the value. And the discriminant accuracy was 74.6%. The analysis with six out of nine factors indicated that the possibility was low with less than 0.441 of the fuzzy integral value and high with more than 0.583 of the value. In this case, the discriminant accuracy was slightly increased to 78.0%.
Electrical resistivity survey (2D and 3D) were employed for detection of possible weak zone of core zones of three central core earth-rockfill dams in Korea. In the 2D results, the core zones is lower resistivity zone with less than $50{\sim}400ohm{\cdot}m$, and the basement is relatively higher resistivity zone with over $1,000ohm{\cdot}m$. In the 3D results, especially, the weak zone with under $100ohm{\cdot}m$ was detected spatial distribution area in the dam. We also drilled boreholes to collect soil samples of core zones of each dam. Water was not used during boring, because water for rotary wash boring could cause structural damages in earth dams. We found that the soil samples of core zones from all of the boreholes correspond to CL (USCS), but we also found that the fluidized or water-saturated soil samples were found in lower resistivity zones. Therefore, the electrical resistivity survey and drilling method without water are a quick and efficient method for structural-health evaluation which is detection of possible weak zones in earth core rockfill dams.

Controlled low strength material(CLSM), known as flowable fill is used sewer. This paper evaluates flowability, segregation, early strength and excavatability of CLSM made using standard soils such as SM, ML, CL, CH. Also, various mix proportions of CLSM containing kaolinite, red soil, Joomun Jin standard soil were developed and the mixing ratio optimized. It was considered as the flowability and early strength were severly affected by W/B, S/B, and early strength and flowability depend on standard soils which means the satisfaction conditions of CLSM were variety of standard soil conditions. Finally, not only optimal mixing proportions were deducted according to standard soil condition but confirmed effectiveness of bleeding and excavatability.
In the Nakdong River plain a very thick clayey soils are covered widely. Since the early 1990's, some huge reclamation projects have been performed for the development of industrial and residential complexes and so on. Despite a large number of soil investigations have been carried out for the projects, the geotechnical properties have never been elucidated well, so that the settlements of the ground due to the mischaracterized properties were greatly underestimated. Therefore, it has been needed to evaluate definitely the characteristics of the clayey soils, particularly for the compressibility characteristics to help understand the settlement behavior. For the compressibility characteristics of the Pusan clays, physical index and consolidation tests were conducted on the reconstituted and undisturbed samples. Using the result of physical index, the Pusan clays could be divided into two different units, which have different depositional environments. According to the concepts of Burland (1990) and Nagaraj et. al. (1990), the intrinsic state line and field compression curve of the Pusan clays could be established. It could be found from their concepts that the Pusan clays are under the cemented and young normally consolidated state and largely consisted of two units. The cementation of the clays was as well identified by compression index ratio (Tsuchida et. al.,1991) and sensitivity (Leroueil et. al.,1983).
