철도궤조(鐵道軌條)의 용접연결부(鎔接連結部)에 대한 피로균열성장(疲勞龜裂成長) (Fatigue Crack Growth of Welded Joints for the Rail of Railroad)

  • 철도궤조(軌條) 용접연결부(鎔接連結部)는 용접(鎔接)에 의한 저인성(低靭性), 잔류응력(殘溜應力), 용접변형등(鎔接變形等)의 효과로 피로균열성장거동(疲勞龜裂成長擧動)의 복잡성을 나타낸다. 또한 철도궤조(軌條)의 장대화(長大化)로 용접연결(鎔接連結)이 불가피하며 용접연결부(鎔接連結部)에서는 피로파괴(疲勞破壞)가 빈번히 발생(發生)하고 있다. 이에 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 소재부(素材部), 가스압접부(壓接部), 테르밋트용접부(鎔接部)에 대하여 피로실험(疲勞實驗)을 행(行)하여 S-N 선도작성(線圖作成)의 기본적인 자료를 제시코져 하였다. 그 결과(結果), 소재부(素材部)가 용접부(鎔接部)보다, 또 가스압접부(壓接部)가 테르밋트용접부(鎔接部)보다 피로균열성장(疲勞龜裂成長)에 대한 저항성(抵抗性)이 좋으며, 이와같은 용접부(鎔接部)와 고강도(高强度)의 궤조강(軌條鋼)은 종래의 재료역학적(材料力學的)인 방법(方法)만으로 파괴(破壞)를 제어하는 것은 매우 위험하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • The importance of modern electronic devices is gradually increased and, the requirement of the safe and reliable earthing and bonding for protection of the electronic devices is consequently absolute. The electrical continuity and physical strength of the bonding work in rail signal and impedance bonding is also one of the important issues. The thermit welding for earth cable connection and rail bonding work proposed hereunder is an effectively applicable in many fields of rail industries.

레일 용접부의 경도와 마멸특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Hardness and Wear Characteristics of Welded Rails)

  • In this paper, thermite and gas pressure weldings have been used to join rails in-track and analyzed as functions of hardness and wear characteristics. The wear rate of thermite welded rail is low compared with that of gas pressure welded rail, which is tested in a pin-on-disk wear tester. The hardness of thermite welded materials is relatively high and narrowly distributed between three zones; welded part, thermally affected zone, and base matrix. Wear of a welded rail may be a major factor in railroad maintenance costs and failures at the rail-rail huh joint.

  • It is reported that about more than 45% of damage shown in railroad rails include breakage of rail end which cross the center of Thermit welded zone. Thermite welding is always accompanied by numerous aluminum oxide and secondary inclusions, which may have a negative influence on the ductility and toughness of the weld metal. In this study the aluminum powder recycled by waste aluminum can was used for iron oxide generated after the process of welding rod and the remain aluminum was reduced by minimizing the quantity of aluminum. And complete dissolution was induced by using ferro Mn powder as the additive element. This study reviewed the applicability of heat treatment in the welded zone of rail using ceramic heating pad by carrying it out. This study could observe the improvement of the mechanical characteristics (UTS and elongation) and the changes of failure mechanism from brittleness to ductility. It could be found that improved strength and elongation result from pearilte fine structure.

  • CWR technology is generally believed to contribute to the increase of train speed and bring a variety of significant advantages, such as the decrease in track works, noise and vibration as well as the improvement of passenger comfort. In CWR technology, welding is considered to be one of the most important element technologies. Among the various welding methods, thermit welding is the most frequently used one for site welding since the operation is simple and the instruments are light as well as easy to deal with. However, it could cause interference with safety operation of trains since thermit welding points, are essentially made of castings and there are potentialities of defects according to the operation conditions, the environment of the site as well as the dexterity of the worker. This study tries to describe the characteristics of thermit welding, defect-causing factors and defect-detection methods at welding points.

실물 휨 피로시험을 통한 철도레일의 휨 피로거동 분석 (The Bending Fatigue Behavior Analysis of Rail by Bending Fatigue Test)

  • 철도 레일의 누적통과톤수에 의한 교체주기기준은 레일의 휨 피로수명에 의해 결정된다. 레일의 휨 피로수명을 평가하기 위해서는 기본적으로 레일의 휨 피로거동(S-N선도)에 대한 분석이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 국내에서 사용되고 있는 50kg/m, 60kg/m 레일에 대하여 신품 및 사용 용접레일(모재부, 테르밋용접부, 가스압접부)로 구분하여 실물 휨 피로시험을 수행하였으며, 휨 피로시험결과를 바탕으로 파단유형 및 파단면 분석, 파괴 확률에 따른 휨 피로거동(S-N선도) 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 통해 레일종류별, 용접방법별, 신품 및 사용레일에 대한 S-N선도를 도출하였다. 이는 향후 누적통과톤수에 의한 레일 피로수명 평가를 위해 반드시 필요한 기초 자료로서 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

재활용 산화철 및 알루미늄 분말을 활용한 철도레일 이음용 테르밋 분말 개발 (Development of Thermite Powder for Rail Joining with Recycled Iron Oxide and Aluminium Powder)

  • Nowadays in Republic of Korea, whole amount of the thermite welding powder for rail joinning is dependent on import. However the demand of the thermite welding powder would be enlarge because some constructing high-speed train and city metro projects are currently in progress. In addition this is the main reason why we should develop the thermite welding powder, domestically. This study is focused on utilizing the recyclable materials like Al powders from cans and iron oxide scales from wire rods as the main components of the thermite welding powder. By minimizing Al content in weld zone by controlling the mixing ratio of the Al powder in the thermite welding powder, the excessive dissolution of the Si and Mn components came from the Al powders could be controled. The tensile strength of welding zone in welded rail was 740 MPa, with that the developed thermite welding powder.

동 테르밋 용접 특성 향상을 위한 폐 산화동 분말 입도 제어 연구 (Controlling Particle Size of Recycled Copper Oxide Powder for Copper Thermite Welding Characteristics)

  • Thermite welding is an exceptional process that does not require additional energy supplies, resulting in welded joints that exhibit mechanical properties and conductivity equivalent to those of the parent materials. The global adoption of thermite welding is growing across various industries. However, in Korea, limited research is being conducted on the core technology of thermite welding. Currently, domestic production of thermite powder in Korea involves recycling copper oxide (CuO). Unfortunately, controlling the particle size of waste CuO poses challenges, leading to the unwanted formation of pores and cracks during thermite welding. In this study, we investigate the influence of powder particle size on thermite welding in the production of Cu-thermite powder using waste CuO. We conduct the ball milling process for 0.5-24 h using recycled CuO. The evolution of the powder shape and size is analyzed using particle size analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, we examine the thermal reaction characteristics through differential scanning calorimetry. Additionally, the microstructures of the welded samples are observed using optical microscopy and SEM to evaluate the impact of powder particle size on weldability. Lastly, hardness measurements are performed to assess the strengths of the welded materials.
