Currently, the shotcrete used as basic support in the tunnel excavation, has the advantages of maintaining high-level strength in condition of early shooting with thin thickness based on the excavation characteristics of rock mass. Therefore supreme equipment and materials were developed and the great strides have continued. Also, the development of measurement technology and the rocks behaviors of undergound are evaluated in detail and the designs of strength and thickness are made. The reinforcement materials development of new material is carried on. Most of the coal fly ash produced in Korea fire power plant is fly ash and bottom mash. Fly ash has been producing to be applied in many fields such as cement, aggregate, construction, civil, agriculture and fisheries. Also a lot of experiments are actively on the way. Therefore in this experiment, in order to use the fly ash mixed with concrete as a material of shotcrete, the experiment was performed in the best content to reduce the compression strength and the shooting rebound ratio of the excavated surface to use fly ash as a substitute material of concrete. As a result, when 15%.wt substitution was made to the fly ash, about 10% of compression strength and 6% of rebound ratio was reduced.
This paper concerns the design of blasts adjacent to structures and facilities. In order to investigate the site characteristics, measurements of in-situ wave propagation and laboratory tests of rock cores taken from the boreholes were carried out. Effects of rock media and delay intervals on ground vibration levels were identified from over sixty measurements of three times of test blasts. For practical use in the field, an empirical propagation equation was derived so as to reflect the characteristics of rock media and delay effects. Safe limits of vibration level for structures were conservatively established based on various suggested criteria. Safe limits for facilities were adopted so that vibration levels induced by blasting should not exceed the allowable limits specified in the manufacturer's installation condition. Suggested were blast pattern and operation to enhance the rock fracturing and to reduce the ground vibration levels under the restricted conditions.
To compare the global warming impact of the TBM and NATM method, which are representative tunnel excavation methods, a life cycle assessment was performed for each method. Life cycle assessment should compare the sum of carbon emissions by considering the pre-manufacturing stage, product manufacturing stage, usage stage, and disposal stage. However, access to TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) manufacturing and disposal data is limited, so I had no choice but to focus on the analysis for the usage stage. In general, carbon emissions during the pre-product manufacturing stage and product manufacturing stage often exceed 90% of carbon emissions throughout the entire process. Therefore, since it is difficult to achieve the analysis goal only by comparing the usage stage, the analysis scope was expanded, and carbon emissions for the process were calculated for the NATM method with access to manufacturing data. As a result of comparing the relative impact on global warming, the carbon emissions of the TBM method were found to be higher than those of the NATM method even though TBM method was only considered for the usage stage. So there it is, the NATM method can be seen as environmentally friendly in the future when considering the impact of climate change (global warming), which has recently attracted attention among environmental impact fields.

The use of roadheaders has been increasing to mitigate the problems of noise and vibration during tunneling operations in urban area. Since lack of experience of roadheader for hard rock, the selection of appropriate machines and the evaluation of cutting rates have been challenging. Currently, empirical models developed overseas are commonly used to evaluate cutting rates, but their effectiveness has not been verified for domestic rocks. In this paper, a comprehensive literature review was conducted to assess the rock cutting force, cutterhead capacity, and cutting rate to select the appropriate machine and evaluate its performance. The cutterhead capacity was reviewed based on the literature results for the site. Furthermore, a new empirical model and simplified method for predicting cutting rates were proposed through data analysis in relation to operation time and rock strength, and compared with those of the conventional model from the manufacturer. The results show good agreement for high strength range upper 80 MPa of uniaxial compressive strength.

Recently, the Shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) construction method is used gradually to increase at the Tunnel Constructin site. However the design and application of the Shield TBM were carried out without sufficient investigation of the ground conditions in the construction site. Due to insufficient understanding to the corresponding equipment is frequently occurring unexpected construction cost and extension of a construction period. The most suitable alternative construction method was determined by analyzing tunneling rate, duration, construction cost of shield machine and tunneling data of alternative method. The result of the case study is suggested as follows. First, the accurate soil exploration on the construction site should be preceded to prevent from tunneling stoppage and schedule delay. Second, the most suitable selection of the shield machine to the ground conditions of the construction site should be executed based on the investigation. Third, the best alternative method for boring of hard rock section is 'hard rock blasting after open cut and cover method'.

For quantitative evaluation of geotechnical engineering properties such as rippability and diggability, clear interpretation on the subsurface velocity structures should be preceded by figuring out top soil, weathered and soft rock layers, shape of basement, fracture zones, geologic boundary and etc. from the seismic refraction data. It is very important to set up suitable field parameters, which are the configuration of profile and its length, spacings of geophones and sources and topographic conditions, for increasing field data quality Geophone spacing of 3 to 5m is recommended in the land slope area for house land development and 5 to 10m in the tunnel site. In refraction tomography technique, the number of source points should be more than a half of available channel number of instrument, which can make topographic effect ignorable. Compared with core logging data, it is shown that the velocity range of the soil is less than 700m/s, weathered rock 700${\~}$1,200m/s, soft rock 1,200${\~}$1,800m/s. And the upper limit of P-wave velocity for rippability is estimated 1,200 to 1,800m/s in land slope area of gneiss. In case of tunnel site, it is recommended in tunnel design and construction to consider that tunnel is in contact with soft rock layer where three lineaments intersecting each other are recognized from the results of the other survey.

The existing NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method) has induced civil compliants due to blasting vibration and noise. Machanized excavation methods such as TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) are being adopted in the planning and construction of tunneling projects. Shield TBM method is composed of repetition processes of TBM excavation and segment installation, the machine has to be stopped during the later process. Consecutive excavation technology using helical segment is under developing to minimize the stoppage time. The modification of thrust jacks and module are planned to ensure the advance force acting on the inclined surface of helical segment. Also, the integrated system design of hydraulic circuit will be remodeled. This means that the system deactivate the jacks on the installing segment while the others automatically act the thrusting forces on the existing segments. This report briefly introduces the mechanical research part of the current consecutive excavation technological development project of TBM.

In tunnel excavation by blast beneath the surface structures in urban area, the characteristics of ground vibration induced by blast and its influence on surface structures are analyzed by the field test and the numerical analysis on dynamic behaviors of the structure. According to the field test on the propagating characteristics of blast vibration through the rock mass and the concrete foundation pile. the attenuation index of peak particle velocity with distance shows the range of 1.7∼2.0 for the rock mass and the range of 2.0∼2.3 for the concrete pile. This shows that the blast vibration reduces more rapidly in the concrete pile. It is known from the numerical analysis on dynamic behavior of the structure that the coefficient of response, velocity ratio of structure response to input wave, is different according to the story of the structure. It can be said from this research that the characteristics of the ground vibration and the dynamic behavior of the structure should be well evaluated and be considered as important factors for safe blasting design especially in underground excavation at shallow depth in urban area.

In tunnel blasting, rock damage and overbreak at excavation limits are strongly related to stability of the tunnel and cost for rock support, and also affect to maintenance after tunnel construction. In this study, many field tests and measurements have been carried out in highway tunnels so that discordance between blast design and practical production blasting could be settled and actual methods of over break control could be proposed through the understanding of the problems in existing blasting patterns. Test blasting in tunnel was carried out many times in two tunnel sites. Also, long hole blasting longer than existing blasting pattern was executed for good grade of rock mass whose RMR value is more than 60. Using the results of test blasting, new standard blasting patterns for two lane tunnel were proposed. As a result of profile measurement after blasting, drilling is a major factor of overbreak. And then the methods for minimizing overbreak were adapted in new blasting patterns.
Dynamic properties of materials by shock loads such as rock blasting and earthquake are recently attracted in the design of aboveground and underground structures. The advance of measuring devices enables to obtain the whole histories of stress and strain in rock specimen of which the failure is completed in several hundred microseconds. The SHPB has been a popular and promising technique to study the dynamic behavior of rock. And the dynamic compressive, tensile and other test with this experiment system are planned to be Suggested Methods of ISRM. This technical paper is to introduced one study article which focuses the design of 3S (special shaped striker) to produce the half-sine wave to eliminate the problems of the rectangular wave. This article is also describing the advantage of half-sine incident wave and size effect of rock dynamic strength.
