  • This study aims to understand the information search behavior of smart phone users. The focus is on the subjects of sought information and the factors considered by the users during information seeking process. To gather the research data, a questionnaire survey was conducted. Some of the findings include that simple facts and the real-time updated topics were searched more often than the ones requiring complicated queries. It was also found that most of the important factors found to be relevant on the Web, and mobile information use environments were equally applicable to the smart phone information seeking cases.

  • The purpose of this study is to find important personal characteristics that affect search process and outcome, and to formulate causal models about searching behavior, by examining the channels and the magnitude of the factors identified. The study was designed to conduct a quasi-experiment with 67 student subjects. A total of 29 elements concerned with aptitude, personality, formal education, effectiveness of online training, search process, and search outcome are measured and reduced to 9 variables. 12 hypotheses were tested statistically and path analysis was done to investigate causal relationship among variables. Finally 5 models were formulated.

Finding the answers of those questions the problems of a Web OPAC as a searching tool have been grasped and recommendations have been suggested in order to improve the system. An experiment was conducted and 30 university students performed 8 searching tasks. The searching behavior of Web OPAC searchers has been analyzed thoroughly. The data of their perceptions about the system was collected through a questionnaire after completing the tasks.

  • Recently, children's internet search engines are becoming the main method to access information. For those engines to function properly, search behavior of children as their searchers should be studied and the findings be applied to design and improve the systems. So an experiment was conducted and 22 3rd-grade elementary school students performed 3 searching tasks through 'Junior Naver' and 'Yahoo!꾸러기' which are representative children's search engines in Korea. Children's searching behavior was analyzed thoroughly through which the problems of children's search engines were diagnosed and recommendations were suggested to improve them.

  • Using grounded theory, this study investigated users' information seeking behaviors associated with their perceptions of uncertainty. Based on a theoretical sampling, 17 doctoral students in the field of business management were recruited. Data was collected through the methods of questionnaire, interviewing, and think-aloud descriptions. The results identified user perceptions of uncertainty in the following stages: identification of information needs, selection of information systems, selection of search terms, actual use of systems, and evaluation of search results. In addition, positive aspects of uncertainties were presented. Major implications relate to information system and service improvements.
