  • With rapid advancements taking place in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, human-robot interactions have been garnering increasing attention. Robots are being actively adopted in building systems and facilities. In this study, we developed robot-friendly building certification indicators. Because these indicators were being developed for the first time, we focused only on commercial buildings. We conducted exploratory research using methodologies such as focus group interviews and the analytic hierarchy process. First, the concept of the robot-friendly building was defined through focus group interviews, and the requirements were categorized by the appropriateness of operating facilities and systems and the appropriateness of architectural and robot operating systems and networks. Next, the relative importance of the evaluation items (23 items in total) was calculated using the analytic hierarchy process. Their average score of the marks was 4.4, and the minimum and maximum were 2.0 and 11.3, respectively. This study is significant because we collected the basic data necessary to develop a one-of-its-kind evaluation system for certifying the robot-friendliness of buildings using scientific methods.

  • Ddareungi, a public bicycle service in Seoul, establishes itself as a means of daily transportation for citizens in Seoul. We speculated that the pattern of using Ddareungi may have changed since COVID-19. This study explores changes in using Ddareungi after COVID-19 with descriptive statistical analysis and network analysis. The analysis results are summarized as follows. The average traveling distance and average traveling speed have decreased over the entire time in a day since COVID-19. The round trip rate has increased at dawn and morning and has decreased in the evening and night. The average weighted degree and average clustering coefficient have decreased, and the modularity has increased. The clusters, located north of the Han River in Seoul, had a similar geographic distribution before and after COVID-19. However, the clusters, located south of the Han River, had different geographic distributions after COVID-19. Traveling routes added to the top 5 traffic rankings after COVID-19 had an average traveling distance of fewer than 1,000 meters. We expect that the results of this study will help improve the public bicycle service in Seoul.

  • This study aims at examining the extent to which older people participating in the Seniors' Job Programme do involve in policy-making and implementation processes of the programme. The study is based on qualitative interviews with seven experts among those involved in the policy process in District A of Seoul. They include civil servants of central and local governments and social workers of implementing bodies such as seniors' welfare centres and job centres. The results show that firstly, practically no direct involvement of participants is being made at the policy-making level, due mainly to the traditional top-down approach of policy process in Korea and also to prejudices of public servants concerned on the current senior citizens' capability as contributor to public policy-making. User-involvement is being made, however, at the implementation level: participants are making, although minor, suggestions for improvements of working conditions and they are being listened to by frontline social workers. Support by the implementing institutions turns out to be necessary for this. Lastly, in contrast with the present, many interview participants are expecting a more active participation from the future generation, i.e. the baby-boom generation when they would have retired. The study concludes by calling for enhancement of institutional and capacity-building support for active user involvement in the future.

  • Artificial intelligence itself has the value of advancing technology, and it is used in various industrial fields to enhance the added value of products and services produced in various industries. Therefore, regulations and policies related to artificial intelligence should be considered from a broader perspective. However, researchers have different understandings, and there is no agreement on how to regulate artificial intelligence. Therefore, we will examine the direction of government regulation on artificial intelligence technology in an exploratory manner. First, accountability, transparency, stability, and fairness are derived as the goals of artificial intelligence regulation, and the system itself, development process, and utilization process are set as the scope of regulation, and users and developers are subject to regulation. The academic significance of this study can be seen as analyzing the current level of artificial intelligence technology and laying the foundation for consistent discussions on artificial intelligence regulations in the future. Considering the life cycle from AI development to application, what is important is the balance of promotion policies to promote the artificial intelligence industry and regulatory policies to respond to the resulting risks. The goal of law related to artificial intelligence is to establish a system in which artificial intelligence can be accommodated in a positive direction to all participants, including developers, companies, and users.

  • In today's market scenario, consumers are bombarded with similar promotional messages. It means that managers have to pay attention to promotion strategy to create strong effect as well as to break through the monotony. In this context, although there are strong needs concerning tie-in promotion, research investigating tie-in promotion is limited. Therefore, we extracted tie-in promotion tools and defined the concept of each tie-in promotion tool by analyzing various tie-in promotion cases which are executed in current market. In addition, consumer's recognition of tie-in promotion was investigated through the in-depth interview. The results of case analysis of tie-in promotion and in-depth interview are summarized as follows. First, 9 tie-in promotion tools were extracted: tie-in price reductions, tie-in coupons, tie-in membership, tie-in contests, tie-in premiums (tangibility, intangibility), tie-in payment terms, tie-in sample, tie-in event(culture event, charity event, experience event) and tie-in fund·rebate. Second, 3 categories of the recognition of the consumer for tie-in promotion were extracted: features of preferred tie-in promotion, expectation benefit of tie-in promotion, and risk factors of tie-in promotion. Especially, at the aspect of features of preferred tie-in promotion, fit between consumer pursuit benefit and tie-in promotion was found to be interesting. Moreover, the recognition of the consumer for tie-in promotion were divided with positive(preferred tie-in promotion features, expectation benefit of tie-in promotion) and negative(risk factors of tie-in promotion) factors. In conclusion, the company's effort will be necessary to lower the perceived risk level occurring from the process of accomplishing the tie-in promotion strategy since consumers recognize both positive and negative effects of tie-in promotion.

  • This study is an action research aimed at improving the instruction of a teacher educator who teaches science teaching methods to elementary preservice teachers. After identifying the cause of their low levels of curiosity and interest in physics, teaching plans addressing this problem were explored, applied to classes, and reflected upon. Through this process, ways to improve teaching practice in science classes for elementary preservice teachers and pique their scientific curiosity and interest were proposed. A spiral implementation structure that repeats implementation and reflection a total of three times was designed for the prospective preservice teachers who participated in elementary science textbook research physics classes. Self-reports, student participation data, and results from both peer and self-evaluations were collected and analyzed. The reasons for the preservice teachers' low levels of curiosity and interest in science were identified as their inability to recognize and express information gaps and their low levels of willingness to resolve this. Practice expressing information gaps, raising the level of knowledge to be able to recognize information gaps, and a strategy to have the will to resolve information gaps were introduced into the class. To the extent that changes can be made by improving unit classes, elementary preservice teachers can express their curiosity and interest in science through this process.

  • In the Republic of Korea, many of the wooden architectural heritage are located in forests and, therefore, are vulnerable to termite damage. In Korea, the predominant approach to termite control involves chemical control methods using termiticides. The rapid attraction of termites to termiticides is essential to shorten the control period. The current study investigated the attraction of Korean termites to carbon dioxide and the appropriate concentration of carbon dioxide required for effective attraction by conducting a basic experiment on the attracting effect in the underground environment. The results showed that carbon dioxide is effective for attracting termites, and an effective concentration range of 10% or less was selected. Additionally, this study established the potential and applicability of carbon dioxide as an attractant in the control of subterranean termites. Future studies should aim at conducting field studies on the application of carbon dioxide to improve the termite control effect, particularly in preserving wooden architectural heritage.

  • Research on particulate matter is advancing in real-time, and various methods are being studied to improve the accuracy of prediction models. Furthermore, studies that take into account various factors to understand the precise causes and impacts of particulate matter are actively being pursued. This paper trains an LSTM model using seasonal data and another LSTM model using concentration-based data. It compares and analyzes the PM2.5 prediction performance of the two models. To train the model, weather data and air pollutant data were collected. The collected data was then used to confirm the correlation with PM2.5. Based on the results of the correlation analysis, the data was structured for training and evaluation. The seasonal prediction model and the concentration-specific prediction model were designed using the LSTM algorithm. The performance of the prediction model was evaluated using accuracy, RMSE, and MAPE. As a result of the performance evaluation, the prediction model learned by concentration had an accuracy of 91.02% in the "bad" range of AQI. And overall, it performed better than the prediction model trained by season.
