  • The purposes of this study were to develop lesson plans of library assisted practical problem-based teaching-learning for 'life and career planning' unit in high school Technology Home Economics Subject and to compare the learning effect of this lesson plan with that of practical problem-based teaching-learning in class. The change in student's perception about home economics subject was also compared after two types of teaching-learning process. The contents of the high school Technology Home Economics textbooks and curriculum guide book for the year of 2007 curriculum revision were analyzed. Based on these analysis 10 library assisted practical problem-based teaching-learning lesson plans on 'life and carrer planning' unit were developed. The high school students living in Gyeonggi province as an experimental group participated in library assisted practical problem-based teaching-learning. The control group of students who had same condition with the experimental group were taught by same lesson plans in class. After the experiment, the changes in attitudes toward life and career planning and in perception about Home Economics subject were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance. The more significant positive attitudes toward life and career planning were found in the experimental group of students compared with those of the control group of students. And compared with the control group of students, the experimental group of student perceived more positively about characteristics of Home Economics subject. Thus, the following conclusion was made that the library assisted practical problem-based teaching-learning could be one of the useful teaching-learning methods to improve attitude toward life and career planning and perception about Home Economics subject.

  • This study focused on understanding the Korean university students' (both undergraduates and graduates) use of foreign language for scholarly information retrieval especially in different search strategies employed based on users' characteristics. A new model was developed based on Ellis's behavioral model of information seeking strategies. The research applied both quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze the data. The students used a variety of foreign language information seeking strategies at different stages of academic information retrieval based on his/her field of study or level of education. The liberal arts and social science students had more difficulty in selecting proper search terms in the foreign language than the science and technology students. This difficulty resulted in less preference for using foreign language queries by the liberal arts and social science students. The students relied more on the bibliographic and citation information in scholarly information retrieval using foreign language queries than the Korean queries. The research outcomes should provide some guidelines on how the Korean university libraries offer information literacy programs and other services based on the patrons' characteristics.

  • We investigate empirically the impact of IT exploration & exploitation capability and operational capability upon organizational agility, especially small and medium sized firms in the logistics industry in South Korea. Based on literature on the bilateral relationship between organizational agility and IT capability, we follow the established research model and propose hypotheses. This work takes an empirical methodology to test the hypotheses: design survey questionnaires, collect data, test reliability and validity of data, and finally test the hypotheses. Our results based on the data collected in 2018 present that IT exploration & exploitation capability significantly increases operational capability, and operational capability increases organizational agility. We find our contribution in updating previous research findings with recent data and in expanding the domain of research more specifically into small and medium sized firms in logistics industry in South Korea. Practically our work suggests that managers and policy makers should consider both fostering newly emerging IT exploration and existing IT resource exploitation capability in order to enhance organizational agility of those small and medium sized firms in logistics industry.

  • Ambidextrous innovation is defined as the innovation capacity to pursue simultaneously both exploration and exploitation. Based on the organization learning and innovation management literature, the ambidexterity hypothesis predicts that ambidextrous innovation would enhance firm performance. This study attempts to verify the ambidexterity hypothesis in the context of TV drama production industry. TV drama producers' ambidextrous innovation is conceptualized as the simultaneous pursuit of exploratory and exploitative approaches in selecting genres of dramas. Data collected from 57 drama producers in 714 Korean TV drama projects between 1994 and 2009 support the ambidextrous hypothesis. The interaction between exploratory and exploitative approaches in genre selection is indeed positively related to the drama performance in terms of the viewing rate. Such results suggest that managers ought to manage high levels of both exploratory and exploitative innovation simultaneously in order to cope with increasing uncertainty, especially in highly uncertain cultural industry.

  • This study conducts statistical analysis based on a survey of 300 CEOs from Korean companies in order to examine the effects of a CEO's internal?external activities (information, knowledge management, learning organization) on business innovation activity (exploitative, exploratory) and business performance. Analysis results show that learning organization activity had a significant positive (+) effect on exploitative and exploratory innovation activity. In addition, knowledge management activity lacked statistically significant effects on exploratory innovation activity. Furthermore, exploitative and exploratory innovation activity was affected by CEO's internal?external activities (information, knowledge management, learning organization) and had a significant positive (+) effect on company's business performance. but it was shown that the level of influence was different. Results of this study imply that maximizing business performance through developing innovation activity by CEO's internal?external activities (information, knowledge management, learning organization) in the company, extracting activity advantageous to company's business environment based on activity perceived in the precedent study and business strategy becomes advantageous to the attainment of business performance objectives.

  • There has been a stream of literature studying moderators of the relationship between organizational ambidexterity and firm performance, but there remains a lack of research on moderators with a strategic perspective. We examined the effect of organizational ambidexterity on a firm's long-term performance and the moderating effect of a firm's relative exploration and exploitation based on a sample of 8,916 firms. We found a positive relationship between organizational ambidexterity and long-term performance measured by Tobin's q. The results also suggest that a firm's relative exploration positively moderates the relationship between organizational ambidexterity and long-term performance, whereas exploitation negatively moderates this relationship. We contribute to the current ambidexterity literature by integrating it with strategy literature. We found that the positive relationship between organizational ambidexterity and long-term performance is enlarged and long-lasting when a firm is a differentiator. In contrast, this positive relationship is lessened and short-lasting when a firm is a cost-leader.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the structural relationship between the digital platform capabilities of financial institutions and the impact of customer orientation on service innovation behavior through exploitation/exploration. A survey was conducted on employees of financial institutions to verify the research model, and the final 280 copies of the questionnaire were analyzed using SPSS 25 and SmartPLS 2.0. As a major research result, First, digital platform competency has a positive effect on exploitation and exploration. Second, customer orientation has a positive effect on exploitation, but not on exploration. Third, both exploitation and exploration have a positive impact on service innovation behavior. Through this research, this study shed new light on the relationship between digital platform capability and customer orientation that affects service innovation behavior of financial institutions, and expanded the scope of research through empirical research. Future research will require research attempts on various variables and research samples.
