The main purpose of this paper is to examine Putnam's recent conception of ethics, and show that it gives rise to an ineluctable incoherence with his rationalism. This suggests that Putnam's philosophy has to be far more naturalized to make his new position cogent. Putnam recently has shown some explicit turn toward pragmatism a la James and Dewey under the name of "pragmatic pluralism." Putnam says that traditional ethics has presupposed some form of ontology in one way or another, which he sees is based on an unnecessary pursuit of a misleading conception of objectivity. Putnam tries to get rid of any notion of ontology in ethics, whereby we can talk about a third view which runs between traditional objectivism and nihilistic relativism. In this sense, he defines pragmatism as "fallibilism cum antiskepticism." Putnam's suggestion makes a good sense as far as it goes. However, his continuous transition toward pragmatism is critically impeded by his own adhesion to the normative conception of "reason." In this light, Putnam himself is wobbling between Kant and Dewey, just as he describes ethics is. Dewey's pragmatism does not have recourse to the very notion of reason to secure objectivity necessary to make sense of moral experience. Putnam needs to be far more naturalized to reach cogently where he espouses, and this can be done only by renouncing the normative conception of reason.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of trust in Korean culture using the indigenous psychological analysis. First, this paper raises central questions that arise in Korean families, schools, companies and society: 1) Why are some Korean families disintegrating? 2) What core values do Korean schools teach? 3) What are the goals that Korean companies pursue? 4) Does trust exist in Korean society? Second, this paper reviews a series of empirical studies conducted using the indigenous psychology approach. The results indicate the following three major themes: 1) trust is based on relational culture and ingroup identity; 2) emotional attachment and bond provide the basis of trust; 3) the emphasis on cultivation of virtue through constant self-cultivation rather than ability and the control of the environment. Third, this paper raises central issues that need to be addressed: 1) the extension and expansion of trust beyond the narrow confines of the family and ingroup to include outgroup members; 2) recognition and balance of public rationality and private emotions and relations in society; 3) the achievement of balance between self-regulation and the control of the environment.
An understanding of the influence of emotional context on memory retrieval is crucial to our comprehensive understanding of human cognition. While previous research focused primarily on visual stimuli to address this relationship, this study ventures into the realm of speech-based emotional contexts. Building on previous findings, we examine the effects of arousal and the valence of verbal contexts on memory, with particular focus on mitigating the serial position effect. In Study 1, we investigated how the arousal level of verbal context in the middle of a word list affects memory retention. Our results demonstrated detriment to the memory of later parts of the word list when exposed to low-arousal contexts. In Study 2, we controlled for arousal levels and examined the impact of valence on memory. We found that negative verbal contexts impair the memory of the word when presented together. Our findings suggest that speech-based emotional contexts do not facilitate verbal memory processing. In particular, negative emotional contexts were found to reinforce the serial position effect. Negative emotional contexts tend to disrupt task performance and fail to elicit memory-enhancing effects, especially when both the context and memory stimulus are verbal. These insights offer a valuable contribution to our understanding of the nuances of auditorily delivered emotional context in verbal memory processes.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the responses and the behavioral characteristics between mathematically promising students and normal students in solving open-ended problems. For this study, 55 mathematically promising students were selected from the Science Education Institute for the Gifted at Seoul National University of Education as well as 100 normal students from three 6th grade classes of a regular elementary school. The students were given 50 minutes to complete a written test consisting of five open-ended problems. A post-test interview was also conducted and added to the results of the written test. The conclusions of this study were summarized as follows: First, analysis and grouping problems are the most suitable in an open-ended problem study to stimulate the creativity of mathematically promising students. Second, open-ended problems are helpful for mathematically promising students' generative learning. The mathematically promising students had a tendency to find a variety of creative methods when solving open-ended problems. Third, mathematically promising students need to improve their ability to make-up new conditions and change the conditions to solve the problems. Fourth, various topics and subjects can be integrated into the classes for mathematically promising students. Fifth, the quality of students' former education and its effect on their ability to solve open-ended problems must be taken into consideration. Finally, a creative thinking class can be introduce to the general class. A number of normal students had creativity score similar to those of the mathematically promising students, suggesting that the introduction of a more challenging mathematics curriculum similar to that of the mathematically promising students into the general curriculum may be needed and possible.
The purpose of this study is to explore the perceptions and tasks of lifelong education for individuals with disabilities, including the necessity of lifelong education and the range and content of it for the disabled. The research method is a focus group interview with 4 managers of lifelong education institutions for the disabled, and the data were analyzed according to the process of thematic analysis method proposed by Braun and Clarke(2006), which is one of qualitative data analysis methods. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, the lifelong education for the disabled is needed, because, unlike the non-disabled, the disabled are less able to recognize and respond to social changes, which requires equipment or convenience facilities to improve it. Second, the range of lifelong education for the disabled was suggested as social life including daily life, vocational ability development education, culture·art·physical training, and those required by individuals with disabilities. Third, the lifelong education institutions for the disabled are lack of experts and have difficulty in communicating between practitioners and the disabled. In conclusion, it is required to provide lifelong education by self-determination of the disabled in the community by priority.

This study is conducted to examine how epistemic reasoning and argument structures of students vary according to data sources used in the process of argumentation implemented in the context of inquiry. To this end, three argument tasks using first-hand data and three argument tasks using second-hand data were developed and applied to the unit on 'Nutrition of Plants' for first year middle school students. According to the results of this study, epistemic reasoning of students manifested during the process of argumentation and varied according to data sources. While most students composed explanations with phenomenon-based or relation-based reasoning in argumentation using first-hand data, all the small groups composed explanations that included model-based reasoning in argumentation using second-hand data. In the case of arguments including phenomenon-based or relation-based reasoning, students described only observable characteristics, with warrants omitted from arguments in many cases. On the other hand, in the case of arguments that included model-based reasoning, explanations were composed by combining the results of observations with theoretical knowledge, with warrants more apparent in their arguments.
This study examined the current trend of the qualitative researches on the experiences of individuals who have siblings with disabilities. This study analyzed 17 research articles that either have been published in journals or nominated during the recent ten years, attempting to suggest future directions of the research on siblings who have siblings with disabilities. This study analyzed 17 research papers examining their participants, research methods, and research topics. The results of the previous literature analysis are the followings. Phenomenological approach is the most frequently used research method and normally developing siblings who were in their 20s participated in the researches most. As most research papers did not consider the normally developing siblings birth order, sex, and types of disabilities, future researches will need to specify these variables. The results of this study suggest the followings. Researchers have tried to investigate and understand the experience of the individuals who have siblings with disabilities, using phenomenological research method. Future research should go beyond the phenomenological research to developed theories that can affect the government policies, employing various research methods with specified participants. Further, this study has also identified that the individuals who have siblings with disabilities wanted to be identified as a separate cohort that needs to be researched and receive support.
In the context of welfare politics, this study tries to examine how interest groups'policy priorities in the child-care policy of Korea were shaped and changed. Based on the already institutionalized child-care services, each beneficiary group-parents, employer and employee of child care center-has its own preference and perception in child-care policy. Futhermore, this difference has produced conflict of interests in the priority of policy options and brought interest group politics to the realm of child-care policy. With regard to interest group politics, this study firstly examines divergence of beneficiary groups'perception about the child-care policy priorities. Meanwhile, discourse politics should be regarded as another dimension of welfare politics because beneficiaries'perception preference in policy could be sometimes changed and converged by communicative policy discourse. By examining convergent aspects of beneficiary groups'perception about policy priority, this study secondly tries to analyze the discourse politics which has been influenced by the free child-care discourse during 2010-12 election period. To investigate these two dimensions of child-care politics, beneficiary groups'policy priority should be systematically and comprehensively classified and quantified. Using Analysis Hierarchy Process(AHP), this study identifies 11 policy issues and determines different ranking priorities of each beneficiary group.
This study seeks to shed light on the contributions of Horst Klaus Berg to German Bible didactics, underscoring the pivotal role of diverse interpretative approaches in the teaching and learning of the Bible. In an era where the complexities and intricacies of the Bible present significant challenges to contemporary readers, the prevalence of one-dimensional interpretations further obstructs the pathway to a profound comprehension of the spiritual depth embedded within its texts. By centering on Horst Klaus Berg's influential theories in the field of German Bible didactics, this research delves into the impact of varied biblical interpretations on Christian education. Berg's work is celebrated for its insightful strategies, notably his advocacy for comprehensive interpretative methods such as "Railway Tracks" and "Free-Learning." These approaches seek to reconcile traditional biblical teachings with individual experiences, thereby facilitating a more expansive understanding of the Bible's applicability to modern life. Through a detailed examination of Berg's theory on biblical interpretation, this paper argues that Christian education must prioritize the cultivation of diverse interpretative skills and their practical integration into Bible study. This educational model encourages learners to become active interpreters, capable of discerning the text's deep-seated meanings by relating it to their personal experiences. The study concludes by affirming Berg's delineation of three critical tasks in biblical interpretation: "reciprocal interpretation," "acknowledgment of the biblical texts' diversity," and "free learning." These elements are portrayed as interrelated and essential, reinforcing Berg's proposition that understanding the Bible's complexity and diversity is crucial for advancing Christian education. This paper offers a novel perspective on the significance of embracing multifaceted interpretations within the domain of biblical studies.
