Radiocarbon for Studies of Organic Matter Cycling in the Ocean (방사성탄소를 이용한 해양 유기탄소 순환 연구 동향)

  • Radiocarbon is a powerful tool for studies of carbon cycling in the ocean. Development of measurement technology of accelerator mass spectrometry has enabled researchers to measure radiocarbon even in specific compounds. In this paper, a brief introduction on radiocarbon measurement and reporting of radiocarbon data is provided. Researches that used radiocarbon measurements on bulk organic matter, organic compound classes, and specific organic compounds are reviewed. Examples include works to understand the cycling of particulate and dissolved organic matter, biochemical composition of particulate organic matter, post-depositional transport of sedimentary organic matter, selective incorporation of fresh organic matter by benthic organisms, chemoautotrophy by archaea, and sources of halogenated chemical compounds found in marine mammals.

  • Hydrosilylation and vromination of vacterial poly($\beta$-Hydroxyalkanoates) containing carbon-carbon double bond or triple bond were carried out. The produced polymers were characterized by IR-spectroscopy and differential scnning calorimetry. Hydrosilylated polymers were characterized crystallinity while brominated polymers had lower degree of crystallinity with increased glass transition temperatures. Mixing polymers containing carbon-carbon triple bonds with Co(II) AND Pt(II) resulted crosslinked polymers.

Density Profile Evaluation of Needle-punched Carbon/Carbon Composites Nozzle Throat by the Computed Tomography (전산화 단층촬영에 의한 니들펀칭 탄소/탄소 복합재료 노즐 목삽입재의 밀도 분포 평가)

  • In this study, the non-destructive computed tomography was adopted to observe the density profile of the needle-punched Carbon/Carbon(C/C) composites nozzle throat. The density profile of C/C was evaluated within ${\pm}0.01g/cm^3$ with 98.74% confidence when the correction of the image and high signal-to-noise ratio were achieved by the optimization of the beam hardening, the electrical noise and the scattered X-ray. The density variation of C/C with the computed tomography was in good agreement with the results obtained by the water immersion method and the observation with scanning electron microscope.

  • Carbon nanofiber exhibits superior and of ien unique characteristics of mechanical, electrical, chemical and thermal properties. Despite of the excellent properties of carbon nanofiber, the properties of carbon nanofiber filled polymer composites were not increased largely. The reason is that it is still difficult to ensure the uniform dispersion of carbon nanofiber in a polymer matrix. In this study, for improvement of the mechanical properties of composites, carbon nanofiber reinforced hybrid composites was investigated. For the dispersion of carbon nanofiber. solution blending method using ultrasonic was used. Dispersion of carbon nanoifiber was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEH). Mechanical properties were measured by universal testing machine(UTM).

Selective Dispersion of Carbon Nanotubes by Octadecylainine (옥타데실아민(octadecylamine)을 이용한 탄소나노튜브의 선택적 분산)

  • We separated semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes(sem-SWCNT) from the HiPco-SWCNTS by dispersion with octadecylamine(ODA). The mixture of acid-treated SWCWTS and ODA was heated at $120^{\circ}C$ for 120hours. ODA physisorbs selectively on the side-wall of sem-SWCNTS. The ODA-treated CNTs were dispersed in tetrahydrofuran(THF) via sonication. The ODA-physisorbed sem-SWCNT can be retained in the supernatant of THF, but met-SWCNT and unabsorbed sem-SWCNT were precipitated in THF. Raman spectra with 514 nm and 1074 nm were investigated. The amount of sem-SWCNT in the supernatant and precipitant was about 94 % and 50 %, respectively.

  • The most important and largest commercial outlet of fly ash in Korea is a replacement material of Portland cement in concrete industry. The high level of unburned carbon in ash brings about some malfunctions in concrete. Therefore, fly ash is refined to improve the quality as a concrete additive. In this process, a lot of the residual carbon is produced, and discarded now. In the present study, to find out a valuable outlet of the enriched carbon samples, the basic morphology of residual carbon in fly ash from Boryung power plant was investigated. The unburned carbon characterization included shape, size measurement, and chemical analysis was examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX).

AC구동 고분자유기물소자에서 임피던스의 변화

  • 고분자유기물로 사용되는 발광층에 탄소나노튜브를 합성하여 AC로 구동되는 고분자유기물소자를 제작하였다. 고분자유기물소자는 총 4개의 층(ITO/CRS/탄소나노튜브를 함유한 MEH-PPV/Al)으로 구성하였다. ITO가 코팅된 유리기판 위에 발광층을 보호하는 역할을 하는 절연층[cyanoethyl pullulan(CRS)], 유기발광물질인 poly[2-methoxy-5-(2-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene-vinylene](MEH-PPV)에 탄소나노튜브의 함량을 조절하여 발광층으로 사용하였으며, 절연층과 발광층은 스핀코우터를 이용하여 증착하다. 마지막으로 thermal evaporator을 이용하여 Al을 증착하였다. 고분자유기물소자는 발광층에 함유된 탄소나노튜브에 함량에 따른 전압, 전류 그리고 밝기 특성을 분석하였다. 탄소나노튜브가 0.015wt% 함유된 고분자유기물소자에서 최대 밝기 특성과 낮은 소비전력을 얻을 수 있었다. 고분자유기물에 탄소나노튜브를 합성된 효과를 알아보기 위하여 임피던스분석을 통하여 고분자유기물소자의 저항, 캐패시턴스, 기생저항을 알아보았다. 고분자유기물소자의 캐패시턴스의 변화는 탄소나노튜브와 고분자 유기물(polymer-CNT matrix) 에서 생성되는 블록들이 매우 얇은 유전층을 구성할 것으로 예상되며 이는 micro-capacitance로 고분자유기물소자의 구동에 영향을 미치는 것으로 예상된다. AC구동 고분자유기물소자에 탄소나노튜브를 함유하여 높은 효율을 얻을 수 있는 장점으로 차세대 디스플레이나 조명으로 탄소나노튜브의 쓰임새를 기대해 본다.

  • Although carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have outstanding theoretical mechanical and electrical properties, CNT fibers(CNTFs) have not yet reached that level. Particularly, tensile strength is only about 10% or less, so studies for making up for it are being actively conducted. As a way for improving mechanical strength, methods such as synthesizing long CNT, orientation, chemical cross-linking, hydrogen bonding and polymer infiltration are being studied. In this review paper, we report preparation methods for highly conductive and strong CNTF/Carbon composites through coating and infiltration followed by carbonization of carbon precursor polymers such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and polydopamine (PDA) on CNTFs.

  • 저밀도 폐놀계 탄소/탄소 복합재의 층간전단강도를 개선하기 위해 흑연분말, 카본블랙, 카본매트, 단섬유 등의 첨가제를 사용하였다. 카본매트와 단섬유를 첨가한 경우, 수지의 부족에 의한 층간접착력의 약화를 가져왔으며, 카본블랙을 첨가한 경우에도 큰 효과를 나타내지 못했다. 흑연을 첨가했을 때 약 30%의 층간강도 개선을 가져왔으며 특히 9 vol.%의 첨가량에 대해서 가장 큰 효과를 보였다.

  • 최근 탄소나노튜브는 역학적으로 견고하고 화학적 안정성이 뛰어나며 열전도도가 높고 속이 비어 있다는 특성 때문에 다양한 분야에 응용될 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 기능 또한 뛰어나다. 특히 구조적으로 매우 큰 aspect ratio를 가지고 있기 때문에 탄소나노튜브는 국소적으로 상당한 전계 증가를 보이고 비교적 낮은 전압에서도 다량의 전계방출 전류를 생성하는 특징을 가지고 있다 그래서, 탄소나노튜브를 전계 방출원으로 사용하기 위해서는 균일하게 수직 배열된 탄소나노튜브를 성장시키는 기술을 요구한다.(중략)
