Investigation of N2O Emission and Reduction Effect from MSW Incineration Plant (도시고형폐기물 소각시설에서 발생하는 N2O 발생량 조사 및 저감효과에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, municipal solid waste (MSW) has collected 3 times and physico-chemical analysis has done. Nitrous oxide emissions from MSW incineration plant were measured continuously by EPA Method 18 and it was compared with the emission by calculation using the emission factor. The $N_2O$ emission of MSW incineration plant was more than twice as large as the emission by calculation. It was found that the installation of abatement facilities in MSW incineration plant is effective in achieving the greenhouse reduction targets and it can be ensure economical efficiency through emission trading system.

Evaluation of Mitigation Technologies and Footprint of Carbon in Unhulled Rice Production (벼 생산 단계에서 탄소발생량과 감축요소 평가)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate carbon footprint during unhulled rice production and to compare mitigation technologies of methane, main carbon source during rice production, Carbon footprint of unhulled rice was a sum of $CO_2$ emission of agri-materials manufacture, rice cultivation and waste treatment. It was emitted 1.40 kg $CO_2$ during unhulled rice production, its distribution was 71.1% by $CH_4$ emission of rice cultivation, 11.8% of $N_2O$ emission by nitrogen application and 7.6% of complex fertilizer manufacture. $CH_4$ emission could be mitigated by some technologies; cultivation of the early maturing rice variety emitted lower by 44.4% than the mid maturing variety, intermittent drainage of submerged water by 43.8% than the continuous flooding condition, direct seeding by 32.0% than transplanting cultivation, no-ploughing by 20.9% than ploughing cultivation. It means that LCA on Global Warming Potential and the statistical data on innovated technical practice are key tools to systemize Measurable-Reportable-Verifiable (MRV) system for carbon footprint and carbon emission trade in the farm base.

Analysis of Environmental Impacts for the Biochar Production and Soil Application (폐목재를 이용한 바이오차 생산 및 토양적용의 환경평가)

  • Biochar is a carbon rich solid produced by the pyrolysis of biomass such as energy crops, forestry residues, and wood wastes. Biochar returned to soil is to mitigate climate change and the feedstock of wood wastes reduces fossil fuel consumption as well as disposal costs. This study was practiced to evaluate a biochar system by gasification in terms of global warming regarding the soil application of the produced biochar. Life cycle assessment methodology was used to analyze the environmental impacts of the system, and the functional unit was 1 tonne of wood wastes. The result shows that the biochar system by using wood wastes as feedstock produces 4.048E-01 $kgCO_2-eq$ from the pre-treatment process as chipping and drying, 4.579E-01 $kgCO_2-eq$ from the pyrolysis process, and 9.070E-02 $kgCO_2-eq$ from the spreading to agricultural land, therefore total 9.534E-01 $kgCO_2-eq$ are generated. About 252 kg of $CO_2$ is still stored in the produced biochar in soil after carbon offsetting of the system. Therefore, the net carbon of the system is -251 kg of $CO_2-eq$.

Analysis of carbon emission reduction effect due to electricity conversion of container port's CHE (컨테이너 항만 하역장비의 친환경 전환에 따른 탄소 배출저감 효과 분석)

  • As the 'Eco-friendly conversion project for Port's CHE(Cargo handling Equipment) ' which has started in 2014 ends in 2024, in addition to the existing 'Low pollution' paradigm to respond to fine dust problems, a full-fledged 'Zero-emission' conversion is to be required to implement 2050 carbon neutrality at the port level. Accordingly, this study calculated the future replacement demand for container handling equipments at the four major domestic ports(Busan, Incheon, Yeosu Gwangyang, and Ulsan), and assumed a scenario where every CHE supposed to eb replaced is electrified inturn every year. And then the resulting future emission reduction effect accordingly was calculated and analyzed. In particular, compared and analyzed the emission outlook applying the life-cycle concept(LCA), which is being adopted as a new emission calculation standard in most industrial fields, and the existing emission calculation concept that only considers direct emissions within the port, to provide more effective implications for the promotion of follow-up conversion projects. According to the analysis results, if the CHE is replaced according to the proposed schedule, it is expected that the existing emissions can be reduced by 79% compared to BAU in 2025 and 97.4% in 2030. However, if the LCA is applied, it is expected to be reduced by only 27.6% by 2030. This suggests that port's CHE must be converted to zero emissions and at the same time establish an Ports' self-sufficient energy grid based on renewable energy.

Design of Riparian Areas for the Carbon Sequestration and Diffused Pollutants Control (비점오염저감 및 탄소축적을 고려한 적정 수변지역 설계방법)

  • This study suggests the riparian area management measures that can control nonpoint source pollution and optimal carbon sequestration. 30~600 m ranges of riparian buffer width are estimated for controlling diffused pollutants in Nakbon K watershed in the Nakdong River. The area that can be easily restored to the riparian buffer zone considering current land use type is the 1,776.51 ha and it is the 50% of estimated buffer area. About 14,526 tC/yr, 11,826 tC/yr, 8,382 tC/yr and 3,349 tC/yr of carbon can be sequestered in the restoration of riparian buffer zone with broad leaved forest, mixed forest, coniferous forest and perennial grass, respectively. It is equivalent amount of carbon dioxide that emitted from 5,000 cars or 20,000 homes as a family of four.

A Study on the Export Performance Factors of Korean Steel Products to the EU and the Expected Changes in Exports Following the Implementation of CBAM (한국 철강 제품의 EU 수출 성과 요인과 CBAM에 따른 수출 변화 예상에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to estimate the export performance factors of Korean Steel Products to the EU and the expected changes in exports according to the CBAM(Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism). the factors influencing the export performance of Korean Steel Products to the EU were analyzed using a Gravity Model, and the expected export amount in the case of a Carbon Tax was calculated assuming that the CBAM would be implemented in 2026, As a result, it was empirically analyzed that economic growth, population growth, exchange rate and manufacturing production index of each EU country have a positive effect on exports in Korea, and it was analyzed that the effects of the single market and system due to the EU's economic community were also helpful in increasing exports but the Carbon Tax is imposed in 2026, reducing Korea's steel exports by about -3.6% to -5.7%

Pyrolysis Effect of Nitrous Oxide Depending on Reaction Temperature and Residence Time (반응온도 및 체류시간에 따른 아산화질소 열분해 효과)

  • Nitrous oxide (N2O) is one of the six major greenhouse gases and is known to produce a greenhouse ef ect by absorbing infrared radiation in the atmosphere. In particular, its global warming potential (GWP) is 310 times higher than that of CO2, making N2O a global concern. Accordingly, strong environmental regulations are being proposed. N2O reduction technology can be classified into concentration recovery, catalytic decomposition, and pyrolysis according to physical methods. This study intends to provide information on temperature conditions and reaction time required to reduce nitrogen oxides with cost. The high-temperature ranges selected for pyrolysis conditions were calculated at intervals of 100 K from 1073 K to 1373 K. Under temperatures of 1073 K and 1173 K, the N2O reduction rate and nitrogen monoxide concentration were observed to be proportional to the residence time, and for 1273 K, the N2O reduction rate decreased due to generation of the reverse reaction as the residence time increased. Particularly for 1373 K, the positive and reverse reactions for all residence times reached chemical equilibrium, resulting in a rather reduced reaction progression to N2O reduction.

냉동 저장 중 지방산화 억제와 지방산화물 생성 저감을 위한 돈육의 부위 및 포장방법의 평가

  • 본 연구의 목적은 냉동 저장 시 돈육의 부위, 포장방법 및 저장기간이 지방산패에 미치는 영향을 측정하기 위하여 실시하였다. pH는 고지방인 삼겹이 저지방인 등심보다 높은 값을 나타냈다(P<0.05). TBARS 값은 저장기간과 포장방법에 의한 차이는 나타나지 않았으나(P>0.05) 저장 후반부로 갈수록 고지방인 삼겹이 저지방인 등심보다 높게 나타났다. (P<0.05). 유리지방산가는 TBARS 값과 반대로 오히려 저지방인 등심이 고지방인 삼겹보다 높게 나타났다(P<0.05). 과산화물가는 저장기간이 증가함에 따라 값이 증가하였다(P<0.05). 미생물 변화는 저장기간, 포장방법, 지방함량에 따른 뚜렷한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. (P>0.05). 추출된 휘발성 화합물들은 저장기간에 따른 변화가 미미하였고 포장방법에 따른 효과는 나타나지 않았으나 (P>0.05) 탄소수 10개 미만인 2,4-dimethyl-1-heptene, hexanal 그리고 4-methyl-2-hexanone은 저지방인 등심보다 고지방인 삼겹에서 더 많이 검출되었으며, 이와는 반대로 탄소수 10개 이상인 고분자 화합물들은 고지방인 삼겹보다는 오히려 저지방인 등심에서 많이 검출되었다(P< 0.05). 상관관계를 조사한 결과 삼겹에서 유리지방산가와 4-methyl-2-hexanone, 등심에서 유리지방산가와 9-octadecenal을 제외하고는 별다른 유의성이 존재하지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 식육의 냉동보관은 식육내 존재하는 지방의 산화와 미생물 성장을 억제하여 미생물, 효소 그리고 자동산화로 인해 발생되는 여러 가지 2차 생성물의 생성을 저해하는 것으로 판단된다.

A Study on the Performance Analysis of AIoT High-Efficiency Streetlamp for Carbon Emissions (탄소배출권용 AIoT 고효율 가로등 성능분석 연구)

  • Following the signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change (UNFCCC, 2015), the world is expanding greenhouse gas reduction activities through comprehensive participation that includes not only developed countries but also developing countries. Major countries around the world are placing high expectations on the effectiveness of total carbon emissions regulation through the carbon emissions market. However, in order to obtain carbon credits, third-party verification is required based on quantitative carbon reduction data. Accordingly, in this paper, we developed an AIoT high-efficiency street light for carbon emissions and conducted a performance analysis study to measure the luminous efficiency of the lighting fixture. To obtain carbon emissions rights, we used high-efficiency LED PKG, developed our own high-voltage PFC, and developed high-efficiency lighting fixtures capable of communication. For communication, the 2.4GHz LoRa method was adopted between the lighting fixture and the gateway. Lens design was conducted through simulation of Korea Expressway Corporation's standard streetlight types A, B, and C. The performance of the streetlight was verified as being more efficient than other existing products through the measurement of luminous efficiency by an accredited rating agency, and it is expected that carbon emissions rights will be obtained by reducing electrical energy through this.

The effect of lubricant containing diamond nano-powder on performance (나노다이아몬드 첨가 윤활제가 디젤엔진의 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Many research works have been conducted to improve a lubrication performance on diesel engines working in severe conditions. In this study the lubricant containing diamond nano-powder is applied on a diesel engine, and the engine performance is analyzed. The concentration of nano-diamond lubricant fabricated by the matrix synthesis dispersion method is varied. The test results with the nano lubricants are compared with the base oil. The result shows the improvement of efficiency with friction reduction and exhaust emissions reduction of CO, smoke and so on.
