  • There is a trend towards the progressive use of higher operating temperatures and stresses to achieve improved efficiencies in power-generation equipment. It is important to perform the crack assessment under hightemperature and high-pressure conditions. The C(t)-integral is a key parameter in crack assessment for transient creep states. The estimation of the C(t)-integral is complex when considering the mechanical and thermal loads simultaneously. In this paper, we study estimation of C(t)-integral under combined mechanical and thermal load depending on loading conditions.

  • In this paper, the estimation method of C(t)-integral for combined mechanical and thermal loads is proposed for elastic-plastic-creep material via 3-dimensional FE analyses. Plasticity induced by initial loading makes relaxation rate different from those produced elastically. Moreover, the interactions between mechanical and thermal loads make the relaxation rate different from those produced under mechanical load alone. To quantify C(t)-integral for combined mechanical and thermal loads, the simplified formula are developed by modifying redistribution time in existing work done by Ainsworth et al..

  • A series of constant creep and repeated creep tests are performed to investigate the behavior of visco-elasto-plastic materials of chemical grouted sands. In the result of constant creep test, the material exhibits three types of shear strain : elastic, plastic, viscoelastic. The elastic, plastic and viscoelastic strains are linear, i.e., the strains are proportional to the stresses for loading. Good agreement is found between the predicted viscoelastic and test results by the power law and the generalized model. In the repeated creep test, the instantaneous recoverable strain is time-independent and the magnitude of accumulated plastic strain increases with number of cycles. Also it is seen that the accumulated plastic strains are approximately proportional to stress. There are no significant differences between test results predicted values for first cycle, and the differences increase relatively insignificantly with number of cycles.

  • This paper proposes a method to determine the elastic follow-up factors for the $C(t)$-integral under secondary stress. The rate of creep crack growth for transient creep is correlated with the $C(t)$-integral. Elastic follow-up behavior, which occurs in structures under secondary loading, prevents a relaxation of stress during transient creep. Thus, both the values of $C(t)$ and creep crack growth increase as increasing elastic follow-up. An estimation solution for $C(t)$ was proposed by Ainsworth and Dean based on the reference stress method. To predict the value of $C(t)$ using this solution, an independent method to determine the elastic follow-up factors for cracked bodies is needed. This paper proposed that the elastic follow-up factors for $C(t)$ can be determined by elastic-plastic analyses using the plastic-creep analogy. Finite element analyses were performed to verify this method.

  • This paper shows an deformation behavior of steel cast slabs, which is used to prevent internal cracks of a slab in an unbending zone, in case of hot charge rolling(HCR) and hot direct rolling(HDR). The value of moving strand shell bulging between two supporting rollers under ferrostatic pressure has been computed in terms of creep and elastic-plasticity and for high strand surface temperature and high casting speed V=1.4-2.2m/min. The strain and strain rate distributions in solidified shell undergoes a series of bulging are calculated with boundary condition a very closed to continuous steel cast slabs productions.

  • In this paper, a bulging condition which affect the quality of continuous casting steel was analyzed by using the numerical analytic method. First, solidification analyses were performed for each cooling zone by one-dimensional finite difference method. The bulging deformation of cast slab has been calculated with a two-dimensional elasto-plastic and creep finite element model. The adequacy of the model has been checked against the experimental results. From this study the effects of the process variables such as casting speed, cooling condition and roll pitch were examined. The results from these analyses would be able to apply to the design of continuous casting process.

  • A deformation model was developed to calculate the deformation of the uranium-silicide dispersion fuel (U$_3$Si-Al) elements for research reactors. The model was based on the elasto-plasticity theory and power-law creep theory. Also, isotopic swelling was assumed for the fuel meat and isotropic thermal expansion for the fuel meat and dadding. The new model calculated successfully the deformation of the fuels of HANARO and NRU (in Canada). As the most important result, it was shown that the primary deformation mechanism in the fuel meat was swelling and that in the cladding was creep. For all cases simulated, the maximum hoop stress at cladding outer surface was lass than 5MPa, probably well below the yield stress of the dadding, and finally, the volume change was predicted to be less than 10% in the whole burnup range.

  • An elasto-plastic constitutive model for geological materials, which satisfies the flezibility and stability at the same time, can be used in a number of geotechnical problems. Using the spacing ratio of critical state, a flexible model is proposed based on the stability of modified Camflay model. The spacing ratio of critical state can be simply evaluated, and practically used in describing the undrained shearing behavior of clay. The proposed model has precisely predicted the stress paths and stress -strain relationships, compared with the modified Camflay model, with respect to undrained triaxial test results. Besides, the effects of strain rate, creep, and relaxation can also be considered. Using the quasi-state boundary surface, the constitutive relations are well predicted. Therefore, it is found that the assumption of associative flow rule is well posed for undrained behavior of normally consolidated clay.
