In this study, High temperature properties of carbon fiber reinforced composites is performed using strand specimens and resin specimens. As for the tensile test at the different temperature, the tensile modulus of resin specimens decreases slightly until the temperature reaches the glass transition temperature. but the tensile modulus of strand specimens maintains tensile modulus at the room temperature. The tensile strength of resin and strand specimens decreases rapidly until the temperature reaches the glass transition temperature.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the current trends of composite applications in the marine and leisure fields and to study the development of 33ft class America's cup training CFRP sailing yacht. In the field of marine and leisure, composite materials have been just used to marine and leisure structures, recently. Especially, since the America's cup of sailing yacht racing has required the light weight and high mechanical performance to make a high speed, CFRP have been recognized as the critical material to construct the racing yacht structures. To establish the process of CFRP racing yacht construction, the design optimizations and production methods of carbon mast and CFRP yacht hull were discussed in this paper. Finally, the constructed CFRP sailing yacht exhibited high performance as the racing yacht through the sailing test.

The mechanical behavior of carbon fiber reinforced polymeric (CFRP) composites was investigated. Both strength and modulus were measured at room temperature dry, cold temperature dry, $-55^{\circ}C$, and elevated temperature wet, $82.2^{\circ}C$ on seven different laminate configurations consisting of $[0_6]_T$, $[90_{12}]_T$, $[0_{16}]_T$ and $[90_{16}]_T$ unidirectional laminates, $[{\pm}45]_{5S}$ angle-ply laminate, $[0/90_{12}/0]_T$ cross-ply laminate, a 36-ply laminate $[0/45/-45/45/-45/0]_{3S}$. Based on the experimental data presented, it is shown that the strength at cold temperature dry, $-55^{\circ}C$ is increased with the brittleness of fiber or matrix. Moreover, it is shown that both shear strength and modulus at elevated temperature wet, $82.2^{\circ}C$ are decreased by the cause of interfacial deterioration between fiber and matrix with moisture absorption.
Carbon fiber-reinforced SiC matrix composites have good oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance. These properties have allowed the composites to be applied to high-temperature structures. In this study, $C_f/SiC$ composites were fabricated via precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) process, including liquid phase infiltration and chemical vapor curing using cyclohexene. The final $C_f/SiC$ composites, which have gone through the PIP process five times, showed a density of $1.79g/cm^3$, as compared to a density of $0.43g/cm^3$ for pre-densified bare carbon fiber preform. As for the oxidation resistance characteristics, the weight of $C_f/SiC$ composite was maintained at 81% at $1400^{\circ}C$ in air for 6 hours. Chemical vapor curing (CVC) using cyclohexene has shown to be an effective method to achieve high densification, leading to increased oxidation resistance.
Carbon woven fabric/C/SiC composites were fabricated by multiple impregnations of carbon woven fabric/carbon preform with the polymer precursor of SiC, i.e., polycarbosilane. In addition, two kinds of low density carbon/carbon preforms which had different fiber volume fraction and fiber orientation, i.e., a carbon woven fabric(${\thickapprox}$55 vol%)/carbon and a chopped carbon fiber${\thickapprox}$40 vol%)/carbon composites, were reaction-bonded with a silicon melt at 1$700^{\circ}C$ in a vacuum to fabricate dense carbon fiber/Si/SiC composites. The reaction-bonding process increased the density to ~2.1 g/$cm^3$ from 1.6 g/$cm^3$ and 1.15 g/$cm^3$ of a carbon woven and a chopped carbon preforms, respectively. All of the composites fractured with extensive fiber pull-out. The higher the density the higher the stiffness and proportional limit stress. The mechanical properties obtained from a three-point bend and tension tests were compared. The ratios of the peak tensile stresses to the bending strengths of a carbon woven and a chopped carbon composites were about one-third, respectively. The carbon woven fabric/Si/SiC composites with density of 2.06 g/$cm^3$ showed ~120 MPa of ultimate strength and ~80 MPa of proportional limit in bend testing.
The failure strengths and modes in carbon fiber reinforced polymeric composites, with two serial bolt-fastened composite joints, were investigated to evaluate the typical joint configurations of composite components. The parametric studies were performed experimentally at room temperature dry and elevated temperature wet, $82.2^{\circ}C$ on several different laminate configurations. Based on the experimental data presented, two basic load-displacements curves are observed. Each failure mode has the characteristic curve. It is showed that the bearing failure mode occurs in elevated temperature wet condition. It is analysed that the strength of bearing failure mode is not highly depending on the effective modulus of specimen. The failure strength at elevated temperature wet is decreased by the cause of interfacial deterioration between fiber and matrix with moisture absorption.
This study describes viscoelasticity analysis of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite material. One of the most important problem during high temperature molding process is residual stress. Residual stress can cause warpage and cracks which can lead to serious defects of the final product. For the difference in thermal expansion coefficient and change of resin property during curing, it is difficult to predict the final deformed shape of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite. The consideration of chemical shrinkage can reduce the prediction errors. For this reason, this study includes the viscoelasticity and chemical shrinkage effects in FE analysis by creating subroutines in ABAQUS. Analysis results are compared with other researches to verify the validity of the subroutine developed, and several stacking sequences are introduced to compare tested results.
Anisotropic pitch-based C-type and hollow carbon fibers can obtain wider shear stresses during the spinning and induce higher molecular orientation than that of round along the fiber axis. These fibers reinforced unidirectional epoxy composites were prepared by hot-press moulding method and perpendicular and parallel thermal conductivities of the composites were measured by a steady-state meth od. In the case of round carbon fibers reinforced epoxy composites(H-CF/EP), thermal anisotropic factor showed nearly 50, while those of H-CF/EP and C-CF/EP showed about 130 and 118, respectively. As a result, both H-CF/EP and C-CF/EP had an excellent directional thermal conductivity to distribute heat, above 200 %.
In this paper, a composite maintenance robot using carbon fiber spray method was developed that automatically sprays mixture was created for repair to damaged areas to repair them. To develop a robot, a repair process was developed in which a mixture of milled carbon fiber, epoxy resin, and hardener is sprayed and consolidated on the damaged area. To automate the repair process, an EOAT based on a collaborative robot was developed that can automatically suction and spray the mixture onto the damaged area. To evaluate the repair performance of the robot, 0° and 90° unidirectional specimens were manufactured and tested in accordance with ASTM D3039. Tests were performed on undamaged specimen, damaged specimen, and repaired specimen by a robot after damaged. As a result of the specimen test, the tensile strength of the 0° and 90° specimens was recovered by 10% and 90% after repair. Based on the test results, the repair performance of the developed composite maintenance robot was verified.

Delamination and burr defects are important problems in drilling fiber reinforced plastics. A method for measuring FRP drilling defects has been studied. Delamination and burr factors were defined as the relative length or area. Using these factors, the effects of tool shape and drilling conditions on delamination and burr were studied. In this study, the defects that occur when drilling a glass-carbon fiber hybrid composite were compared in terms of three factors. In the glass-carbon fiber hybrid composite, the effects of the feed rate and tool point angle on the delamination and burr factors were similar to those in previous studies. The diameter of the tool did not affect the defect factor. A circular burr was generated in a drill tool with a point angle of 184°, and a relatively small deburring factor was observed compared with a tool with a point angle of 140°.
