  • Single-channel seismic exploration has proven effective in delineating subsurface geological structures using small-scale survey systems. The seismic data acquired through zero- or near-offset methods directly capture subsurface features along the vertical axis, facilitating the construction of corresponding seismic sections. However, substantial noise in single-channel seismic data hampers precise interpretation because of the low signal-to-noise ratio. This study introduces a novel approach that integrate noise reduction and signal enhancement via matrix rank optimization to address this issue. Unlike conventional rank-reduction methods, which retain selected singular values to mitigate random noise, our method optimizes the entire singular value spectrum, thus effectively tackling both random and erratic noises commonly found in environments with low signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, to enhance the horizontal continuity of seismic events and mitigate signal loss during noise reduction, we introduced an adaptive weighting factor computed from the eigenimage of the seismic section. To access the robustness of the proposed method, we conducted numerical experiments using single-channel Sparker seismic data from the Chukchi Plateau in the Arctic Ocean. The results demonstrated that the seismic sections had significantly improved signal-to-noise ratios and minimal signal loss. These advancements hold promise for enhancing single-channel and high-resolution seismic surveys and aiding in the identification of marine development and submarine geological hazards in domestic coastal areas.

  • In this study, we have developed the high resolution multichannel seismic data acquisition system and shallow marine seismic source. It is easy to operate and handle our source system which utilizes piezoelectric transducer of high electrical power. We have manufactured two 4-channel streamers for multi-channel marine seismic survey. In the recording part, we used 24bits and 8 channel high speed A/D board. Therefore, we could achieve the improvement of data quality and the efficiency of data acquisition. We compared the developed system with the conventional system to demonstrate its field applicability.

  • Recently, single channel seismic survey for engineering purpose have been used widely taking advantage of simple processing. However it is very difficult to obtain high fidelity subsurface image by single channel seismic due to insufficient fold coverage. Recently, seismic waveform inversion in multi channel seismic survey is utilized for accurate subsurface imaging even in complex terrains. In this paper, we propose the seismic waveform inversion algorithm for velocity model building using a single channel seismic data. We utilize the Gauss-Newton method and assume that subsurface model is 1-Dimensional. Seismic source estimation technique is used and offset effect is also corrected by removing delay time by offset. Proposed algorithm is verified by applying modified Marmousi2 model, and applied to field data set obtained in port of Busan.

  • Horizontal-axes on the seismic section have been represented in a distance unit by applying horizontal-distance correction transformation on a 2-D seismic section of single channel marine seismic data. By drawing horizontal-axes in a distance unit, distortion of horizontal distances shown on the seismic section when the ship speed varies during a survey can be diminished considerably. Position information obtained by GPS and stored in each trace of seismic data as well as data collection windows were used for horizontal distance correction. The minimum window length was decided by considering ship speed and shot interval, and the maximum window length wat determined by reflecting radius of the 1st Fresnel zone. In choosing an optimum window length, horizontal resolution and stacking effect were considered simultaneously. By applying horizontal distance correction we could get a 2-D seismic section which is considered at reflecting the real subsurface structure analogously.

  • Digital technology has been applied to marine seismic survey to develop data processing technology and multi-channel marine seismic survey. In result, high-resolution marine seismic survey ended in a success. Surveys are conducted for various purposes using various frequencies of acoustic sources. A low frequency source is used for deeper penetration and a high frequency source is used for higher resolution survey. In this study, a multi-source system was used for multi-channel marine seismic survey to acquire seismic sections of both low and high frequencies. Variations of depth of penetration and resolution would be used to achieve more accurate analysis of formations. In this study, the multi-source system consists of Bubble Pulser (400 Hz) for low frequency source and Sparker (1.5kHz) for high frequency source.

  • The Single-channel seismic survey with the source of bubble pulser and drilling survey was carried out in 2008 and 2009 for the site survey of Daecheon-Wonsando area, which was a proposed area of Korea-China subsea tunnel. The goal of this study is to analyze the depth and characteristics of acoustic basement for the stability assessment and tunnel design in this proposed area through combining drilling data with this single-channel seismic data after detailed processing. For this purpose, among the data processing schemes which are usually applied to multi-channel seismic data, we applied the F-K filtering to eliminate the AC(alternating current) noise and the post-stack depth migration to produce depth section. As a result, we verified that the improved depth section could be obtained from single-channel seismic data, and the distribution and characteristics of basement could be analyzed in survey area through the combined analysis with drilling data. However, we could not interpret the detailed structures, fault and fracture zone, due to the quality of bubble pulser source and single-channel data. We expect that those detailed structures can be analyzed when higher resolution seismic data is provided. Therefore, we recommend some items for future seismic survey of subsea tunnel to obtain the high resolution seismic data.

  • Breaking the rigid connection between the two faces of the wall can significantly improve the sound transmission loss of the wall. This is usually achieved by resiliently mounting the gypsum board on one of the two faces of the wall using resilient channel. Resilient channel with less stiffness than that of air cavity could move the resonance frequency of the light-weight wall. So we can get higher sound transmission loss at low frequencies for light-weight wall using resilient channel. It's sound transmission loss is 17 dB higher than that of single stud wall, and 5 dB higher than that of double stud wall.
