Some recent researches reported that high temperature rising decreases the carbonation depth of concrete, which is contrary to the previous research results. Carbonation has been known as a reaction between calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide. But a few researches showed that the other cement hydrates as well as calcium hydroxide react with carbon dioxide. This paper investigates the influence of temperature on carbonation and the variation of $Ca(OH)_2$ and $CaCO_3$ by carbonation. In order to estimate the carbonation depth and the quantities of reactant and product of carbonation reaction, phenolphthalein testing and thermagravimetric analyzer test were conducted. The measurement of carbonation depth with temperature showed that the temperature increase from $20^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$C in carbonation environment makes the carbonation depth larger, but the increase from $30^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$ has a small influence on the carbonation depth. Comparing calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate with temperature, the quantity of $CaCO_3$ of specimen carbonated at $30^{\circ}C$ is greater than that of specimen carbonated at $40^{\circ}C$ and the quantity of $Ca(OH)_2$ of specimen carbonated at $30^{\circ}C$ is similar to that of specimen carbonated at $40^{\circ}C$. This observation shows that there is the optimum temperature increasing carbonation depth and the optimum temperature is close to $30^{\circ}C$.

Mineral carbonation is a technology for permanently storing carbon dioxide by reacting with metal oxides containing calcium and magnesium. In this study, we used sea water and alkaline industrial by-product such as paper sludge ash (PSA) for the storage of carbon dioxide through direct carbonation. We found the optimum conditions of both sea water content (mixing ratio of sea water and PSA) and reaction time required in the direct carbonation through various experiments using sea water and PSA. In addition, we compared the amounts of carbon dioxide storage with the cases when sea water and ultra-pure water were separately used as solvents in the direct carbonation with PSA. The amount of carbon dioxide storage was calculated by using both solid weight increase through the carbonation reaction and the contents of carbonate salts from thermal gravimetric analysis. PSA particle used in this study contained 67.2% of calcium. The optimum sea water content and reaction time in the carbonation reaction using sea water and PSA were 5 mL/g and 2 hours, respectively, under the conditions of 0.05 L/min flow rate of carbon dioxide injected at $25^{\circ}C$ and 1 atm. The amounts of carbon dioxide stored when sea water and ultra-pure water were separately used as solvents in the direct carbonation with PSA were 113 and $101kg\;CO_2/(ton\;PSA)$, respectively. The solid obtained through the carbonation reaction using sea water and PSA was composed of mainly calcium carbonate in the form of calcite and a small amount of magnesium carbonate. The solid obtained by using ultra-pure water, also, was found to be carbonate salt in the form of calcite.
Lauan sawdust was gasified by steam reforming for hydrogen production from biomass waste. The fixed bed gasification reactor with 1m height and 10.2 cm diameter was utilized for the analysis of temperature and catalysts effect. Steam was injected to the gasification reactor for the steam reforming effect. Lauan sawdust was mixed with potassium carbonate, sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, sodium carbonate + potassium carbonate and magnesium carbonate + calcium carbonate catalysts of constant mass fraction of 8:2 which was injected to the fixed gasification equipment. The compositions of production gas of gasification reaction were analyzed at the temperature range from $400^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$. Fractions of hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide gas in the production gas increased when catalysts were used. Fractions of hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide gas were increased with increasing temperature. The highest hydrogen yield was obtained with sodium carbonate catalyst.

The purpose of this study is to enhance the mechanical strength of specimens containing fly ash from fluidized bed type boiler, which the recycling rate will be eventually increased. Specimens containing fly ash in a certain portion were made and aged for 3, 14, and 28 days. Specimens were carbonated under the supercritical condition at $40^{\circ}C$. The carbonation process under the supercritical condition was performed to enhance the mechanical property of specimens by filling the voids and cracks existing inside cement specimen with $CaCO_3$ reactants. The additional aging effect after the supercritical carbonation process on mechanical strength of specimens was also investigated by comparing the compressive strength with and without 7 day extra aging. Under the supercritical condition and additional 7 day aging specimens were very effective for enhancement of mechanical strength and compressive strength increased by 44 %.

In order to improve the hydration resistance of lime in the air at room temperature, carbonation and hydration experiments have been conducted. Carbonation of the surface of lime by about 6 wt% was needed to suppress the hydration of lime used in steel-making. The effect of recirculation of rotary kiln exhaust gas for the carbonation of lime on the combustion temperature and NOx concentration was analyzed by thermodynamics. From the thermodynamic calculation results, it was frond that the equi-librium combustion temperature and NOx concentration decreased with increasing volume percentage of exhaust gas.

A concrete carbonation model has been constructed that takes account of the diffusion of carbon dioxide through a coating and reaction with calcium hydroxide, and this model has been validated by an accelerated carbonation experiment. (1) By using values for the coatings calculated on the basis of a diffusion.permeation theory as input data for the analysis of diffusion.reaction carbonation in an unsteady state, the effect of the coatings in reducing carbonation can be represented with high accuracy. (2) Through a sensitivity analysis of the diffusion.reaction carbonation model and the experimental results, we found that the diffusion coefficient of calcium hydroxide shows a high interrelationship at 1e-12($m^2/s$). The reaction rate constant for carbonation shows a high interrelationship at 5e-5($m^3/mol/s$).
The synthesis and crystallization of amorphous calcium carbonate($CaCO_3$.$nH_2 O$) obtained from gas-liquid reaction between aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide at 15~$50^{\circ}C$ are investigated by electrical conductometry, XRD and TEM. The results are as follows: The initial reaction products prior to the formation of precipitated calcium carbonate is amorphous calcium carbonate. The electrical conductivity values in the slurry are decreased during the formation of amorphous calcium carbonate which covers particle surface of calcium hydroxide and retard the dissolution of calcium hydroxide into the solution. that amorphous calcium carbonate is unstable in the aqueous solution and crystallizes finally to calcite by the through-solution reaction. While amorphous calcium carbonate crystallizes into chain-like calcite, the conductivity values are recovered rapidly and the apparent viscosity of slurry containing higher concentration of calcium hydroxide increase. At below pH 9.5, chain-like calcite separates into individual particles to form precipitated calcium carbonate. The formation and synthetic temperature range of amorphous calcium carbonate is most suitable a primary decreasing step(a-step) at $15^{\circ}C$ in the electrical conductometry.
Crystallization of calcium carbonate was performed by using aqueous calcium chloride and sodium carbonate for operational simplicity. Reaction time, solute concentrations, pH, and organic additive were varied to get calcium carbonate crystals. Silk fibroin was used as the additive to understand the change of morphology of calcium carbonate crystal. The crystals were analyzed by FE-SEM, XRD, and FT-IR. Reaction time, and pH mainly affected the morphology of crystals. Besides, it was found that silk fibroin inhibited the formation of vaterite and promoted the calcite forms.
Potassium carbonate reacts with silicon tetrachloride to form trichlorosilyloxy carbonylchloride which reacts subsequently with another molecule of silicon tetrachloride leading to phosgene eventually in chlorinated solvents. This in situ generated trichlorosilyloxy carbonylchloride or phosgene were found to be very effective for the chlorination of a wide variety of alcohols to the corresponding chlorides. Primary, secondary and benzylic alcohols were converted into corresponding chlorides when treated with silicon tetrachloride in the presence of potassium carbonate at room temperature.
