  • Course correction munition is a smart projectile which improves its accuracy by the control mechanism equipped in the fuze section with canard. In this paper, various aerodynamic configurations of the fuze section were analysed by utilizing a semi-empirical method and a CFD method. A final canard configuration showing the least drag was then determined. During the CFD simulation, it was found that the k-${\omega}$ SST turbulence model combined with O-type grid base is suitable for the prediction of the base drag. Finally, the aerodynamic characteristics of the smart munition and the change of drag due to the canard installation were analysed.

  • In this study, numerical analysis has been performed to investigate the flow characteristics of a drag improvement device which is designed to achieve accurate impact point. The drag increase due to drag improvement device has been analyzed. And the effect of spread angle and location of drag improvement device has also been investigated. The drag improvement device with 20 degree spread angle increased the drag 3.5 times. The corresponding weight of the device is found out to be 26g.

  • Miniature smart-bullet is a human-carrying guided missile designed to hit a target easily while having a miniature size. Contrary to the normal missiles, miniature smart-bullet is highly expected to enhance the military strength and survival rate of troops by its compact size readily carriable to a single soldier. In this paper, previously developed techniques, activities and patents of miniature smart-bullet, particularly its structural shape and actuators are surveyed. Furthermore, analysis of required techniques to develop a miniature smart-bullet are also discussed for upcoming conceptual design.

  • Course correction munition are a weapson system for precision attacks and are assembled by applying a ballistic control system to existing projectiles. The roll control system is a subsystem of the ballistic control system and is placed between the guidance and control units inside of the projectile, which undergoes a 5000g lateral acceleration. Thus, it is very important to design the system to endure this load. Many developed countries evaluate the performance and safety of course correction munitions' parts using live-fire gun launch tests or a soft recovery system. However, these methods are expensive and slow. Thus, in this study, we develop impact analysis model of the roll control system using CAE. We apply the code to simulate impact phenomenon and use Johnson-Cook material model for modeling the high strain rate effect on the materials. We also design bearings in detail to analyze their behavior and verify the reliability of CAE model through gas-gun impact tests of the roll control system.
