Democracy and Confucian Philosophy of South Korea in the 21st Century - Focusing on the issue of heteronomy and autonomy - (21세기 한국의 민주주의와 유가철학 - 타율성과 자율성의 문제를 중심으로 -)

  • The 10th constitution established in 1987 serves as the theoretical foundation of democracy in South Korea in the 21st century. Respect for human rights, resistance to injustice, and equality consciousness inherent in this constitution do not conflict with the content of Confucian philosophy. This means that the spirit of the constitution of South Korea in the 21st century was formed under the influence of the idea of democracy and Confucian philosophy. However, the 10th constitution attaches importance to the idea of the 'Basic free and democratic order', which was accepted in the Yushin constitution and inherited by the military forces. The Yushin constitution was affected by liberalism that prioritizes freedom over equality rather than supporting the compatibility between freedom and equality. Therefore, policies to expand the interests of the bourgeoisie rather than public welfare or the interests of the public have been implemented frequently. In particular, during the Lee Myeong-bak and Park Geun-hye regimes, many unequal phenomena were mass-produced. Confucian philosophy in the 21st century critically sees this unequal society. Confucian philosophy thinks that a sense of relative deprivation plays a role of alienating humans and emphasizes the importance of equal relationships. In addition, this constitution emphasizes the rule of law. However, the rule of law attaches importance to positive laws when the spirit of the constitution that contains natural law is applied to reality through systems. This rejects autonomous judgments and choices while inducing reliance on heteronomy. These heteronomous laws as such are accompanied by forcibleness. The positive laws as such can degrade humans into passive beings that indiscriminately adapt themselves to frames already set instead of active beings that think freely and creatively. Confucian philosophy regards and criticizes the rule of law as a system that makes humans into a means. Confucian philosophy regards humans as moral beings instead of tools. Confucian philosophy seeks to build a healthy society through morality accomplished through conscious realization of the principles of life. Confucian philosophy regards humans as originally free beings. Therefore, human beings are autonomous beings, not heteronomous beings. According to Confucian philosophy, humans beings that can realize the morality contained in their inner side by themselves to responsibly carry out their own judgments and choices. Therefore, Confucian philosophy, which considers human beings as beings to be trusted instead of beings to be distrusted, attaches importance to the realization of human decency through edification rather than by punishment through the law. This means that human values cannot be kept by the heteronomy termed positive laws but the identity of humans can be maintained by voluntary choices and judgments. As such, the comment of Confucian philosophy on the problems of liberal democracy and positive laws contained in the 10th constitution can be helpful in essentially solving the contradictions of modern South Korean society.

  • Since Aristotle, human capability has been understood as the form of existence. The capability is presupposed before execution in mainstream economics, Marx's capitalist labour process, even socialist labour process. Of course, Marx shows that the value of capability and execution is different in capitalist labour process. Also Marx points out heteronomy that producer can't have products as his own. Even socialist labour process can't cut off shackles of heteronomy. It is necessary to change way of thinking in order to cut off shakles of heteronomy and to develop human's full potential. The changing way of thinking is to restore labour into primary labour which is purpose as life itself not means. Human capability is potential. We can't define potential as the form of existence. Human capability is promoted by free will. True freedom promoting human capability is realized by rebuilding in individual property depending on distribution principle by the needs in the association of free individuals.

Chinese Influence and Southeast Asian Response: An Interactive Approach (중국의 영향과 동남아의 대응: 상호적 접근시각)

  • This study is an attempt to construct a basic framework of analysis about China's political and economic influence on Southeast Asia through traditional Sinocentrism, anti-colonial nationalism, Cold War socialism and post-Cold War capitalism. As to the historical status of Southeast Asia vis-a-vis external forces such as India, China and the West, the colonial discourse tends to put excessive emphasis upon its dependence, and the posy-colonial discourse upon its autonomy. However, this study elucidates the political and economic interactions between China and Southeast Asia in a dynamic perspective, focusing on their reciprocal interactions beyond the essentially static dichotomy of autonomy and dependence. Chinese influence on Southeast asia can be divided into active and reactive one, with the former referring to direct and intended consequences and the latter to indirect and unintended consequences. In the historical process of active and reactive influence, both China and Southeast Asia were fundamentally proactive actors. Thus, the autonomy or dependence of Southeast Asia is just a question of relative one, with its actual extent and degree varying with specific spatial and temporal conditions.

Study for independence of hits in professional baseball games (프로야구 경기에서 안타의 독립성에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, we would like to test whether the hit at a particular bat has a dependency with the hitting results at the previous bats in professional baseball games. For this purpose, we used the 2011 Korean Baseball League data. We find out that the hitting percentage at a particular bat has no dependency with the hit at the previous bat, after reviewing the conditional probability of hit at each bat and the lift. From the independence test of hits at consecutive bats, and hit at a particular bat with no hits at previous bats, we can conclude that hits at particular bats are not dependent on the hits at previous bats in most cases. Hence, we can safely conclude that a hit at a particular bat is statistically independent from the hits at the previous bats.

  • This article identifies the nature of international relations and education and examines their potential. To achieve this goal, international relations and education can be found in supporting economically deprived regions and contributing to the development of the world based on mutual understanding. Next, the current status of international education exchanges was examined by the Ministry of Education, the National Institute for International Education, and the Gyeongnam Office of Education's International relations and Education Center. The status of international relations and education shown in these three subjects is active in practice, but there was also a limit to theorizing about them and making explanations or predictions. Based on this, the possibility of international education exchanges was discussed by the government or education office, which can bring about educational autonomy, contribute to the growth of the country through support for resource-poor countries, limited development assistance, poor academic development.

  • Today's society is against the backdrop of rapid development and rapid change. As an important social entity, universities are inevitable to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation to meet changes in society. International exchange and cooperation will be one of the five new professions of universities following talent training, scientific research, community service, cultural transmission and innovation. The study explores various aspects of Qingdao University's international exchange and cooperation status, including organizational operations, international projects, international academic exchanges, and international cooperation schools, and presents problems and implications. To better achieve international exchange and cooperation of universities in the future, we would like to provide a useful reference. The focus is on enriching vocational theory of higher education and further supplementing related theoretical systems such as international exchange and cooperation and internationalization of higher education.

Examination of the Learning Motivational Process Models Based on Self-determination theory (자기결정이론을 토대로 한 학습동기 경로 모형 검증)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine learning motivational process models, based on Self-Determination Theory(SDT) in academic settings. I examined if SDT's assumptions would fit for Korean adolescents, using a learning motivation scale(LMS), Basic Needs-autonomy, competence, and relatedness-Satisfaction Scale(BNSS), academic grades and life-quality scales, and also tried to search for the adequate motivational process models for Korean adolescents through regression analysis and structural equation model analysis. The results of this study are as follows. Basic needs satisfaction influences positively on the development of self-determinative motivation, which influences positively on academic achievement. But academic achievement and self-determinative motivation doesn't always influence on subjective well-being positively. And Korean adolescents who study autonomously or achieve good grades, are not better in a dimension of subjective well-being than others. Basic needs satisfaction while growing is more important than any other variables to improve adolescents' autonomous motivation, academic achievement and subjective life qualities.

Digital Device에 대한 미국 FCC의 자기입증제도

  • 미국 연방통신위원회(FCC)에서는 1996. 5. 14일 부로 Digital Device에 대한 인증제도를 자기입증방식(DoC)으로 변경한다는 방침을 확정, 발표하였다(FCC 96-206, ET Docket No. 95-19, Report and Order). 이 새로운 자기입증제도는 기존 FCC의 타율규제방식(Certification, Verification, Notification등) 을 탈피하여 제조자 자율에 의한 인증개념을 도입한 것으로서, 어떤 제품(Digital Device에 대해서 FCC가 정한 기술기준에 의거 시험하여 합격하였을 경우, 제조자(인증권자) 스스로 적합선언서 (DoC : Declaration of Conformity)를 채택하고 해당 제품에 인증마크를 부착하여 출하시킨다는 것으로 기존 EU의 CE-Mark 인증제도 중 Module A와 유사한 제도이다. FCC는 이와 같은 제도변경을 위해서 1995년 2월에 이미 기본방침을 발표하여 그동안 관련업계 의 광범위한 의견수렴을 거쳤으며, 필요한 법적보완사항을 위해서 일부 통신법을 개정, 완료하였 고(1996 통신법 403(f), 상무성, NIST 등 관계기관과의 의견조정을 마친 후 본 시행안을 확정, 공표 하였다.

Effects of MICE Industrial Employee's Job Stressors on Intent to Leave and Test of Mediating Role of Job Satisfaction and Job Commitment (MICE 산업종사자의 직무스트레스요인이 이직의도에 미치는 영향과 직무만족·조직몰입의 매개역할 탐구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the MICE industrial employee's job stressors on intent to leave and test of the mediating role of job satisfaction and job commitment. For the study, job stressors were defined 3 groups with 7 sub-factors, such as role stressors of role ambiguity, role conflict and role overload, task stressors of job routineness and job heteronomy, organizational stressors of job insecurity and distributive injustice. Data were collected from 303 MICE industrial employees in metropolitan area by structured questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed by AMOS 18.0 and findings are as follows. Firstly, on aspect of total effectiveness, the seven job stressors had harmful effect on intent to leave, especially organizational stressors had more serious effect on intent to leave than role stressors. Secondly, not only job satisfaction and job commitment had meditators role but also influenced on intent to leave directly. Thirdly, role ambiguity had effect on intent to leave indirectly through the job satisfaction, while role conflict and role overload had effect on intent to leave directly, and also indirect effectiveness on it through the job commitment. Fourthly, job routineness and job heteronomy had effected on intent to leave only through the meditators. Not only job insecurity and distributive injustice had influenced on intent to leave directly but also effectiveness on it indirectly through the meditators.

장여헌과 이토 진사이의 도·도덕론 비교

  • 본 논문은 조선시대의 장여헌(張旅軒)과 일본 에도(江戶) 시대의 이토 진사이(伊藤仁齋)의 사상, 특히 도(道)에 관한 견해를 중심으로 인간론과 도덕론을 고찰하여 그 둘의 사상적 특징을 밝히고자 하는 시도이다. 논의의 진행은 먼저 도(道)에 관한 여헌과 진사이의 이해를 주자학적 논의와의 원근 거리와 천도(天道) 인도(人道)와의 관계에서 살펴보았고, 다음으로 인간관에 있어서는 자기와 타인과의 관계를 중심으로 인간에 관한 이해를 논하였으며, 다음으로 마음과 경(敬), 서(恕)에 관한 두 사상가의 상반된 이해를 소개하면서 도덕론을 논하였다. 이하 요점을 추려보면 다음과 같다. 진사이는 도를 천지의 도와 단절된 인륜일용의 인간의 도로 한정하였고 인간에 대해서도 개적 존재를 사상시킨 관계적 존재에 초점을 두고 파악하였다. 그런 관점 위에서 개인 수양의 출발점이 되는 마음이나 경에 대해서도 큰 비중을 두지 않았고, 그것은 개인의 자율성보다는 외적인 규범에 보다 많은 신뢰를 두고 그것에 자신을 맞추어 가는 일종의 타율적인 관계(집단) 속의 도덕론의 전개로 나타나고 있음을 논하였다. 여헌은 도(道)를 천지만물과 사람 모두가 의거하는 총체적인 개념으로 파악하였고, 더 나아가 사람의 도가 능동적으로 천도와 지도를 구현하는 중심이라고 하였다. 이런 관점 위에서 여헌은 인간은 몸(형기(形氣))을 가진 개적 존재이지만 동시에 그 몸의 일부인 천지만물과 통하는 마음을 갖고 있다는 점에서 보편적인 존재라고 정의하며, 그 마음을 다스리는 경(敬)공부를 개인 수양의 기본임과 동시에 천지만물의 보편적 이치를 체득하는 근본적인 실천공부로 중시하였다. 이러한 여헌의 도와 인간에 대한 이해는 도덕의 실현에 있어서 자신이 중심이 되어 그것의 확장으로 모두가 하나가 되는 동심원적 파동의 도덕론으로 전개되고 있음을 고찰하였다.
