Input Shaper Design for Tower Crane in Consideration of Nonlinear Coupled Motions (타워크레인의 비선형 연성 운동 특성을 고려한 입력성형기 설계)

  • Input shaping has been a very effective control method for reducing payload swing in industrial bridge and gantry cranes. However, conventional input shapers often degrade performance when applied to tower cranes because of the nonlinear coupled dynamics between rotational and radial motions in tower cranes. To alleviate this problem, a new input shaper for tower cranes is developed by means of dynamic modeling, analysis and optimization. This work investigates the tower crane dynamics along with parameters of the tower crane varied. A performance index for input shaper design is proposed so as to reduce the coupled residual vibration of a tower crane using only rotational motion of tower crane. The proposed new input shaper is verified to be effective through simulations and experiments.

Analysis of Vulnerable Parts based on Non-destructive Testing Data of Tower Crane Welding Parts (타워크레인의 용접부 비파괴검사 데이터 기반 취약부위 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate vulnerable parts of tower crane structures by analyzing extensive non-destructive test data. Approximately ten percent of domestically registered tower cranes were inspected by using magnetic particle inspection. The testing was carried out as advised in KS B 0213. The non-destructive results was analyzed with respect to jib types, age and crane size. As a result, the number of crack occurrences were the largest in mast parts, followed by main jib part. Moreover, it was found that turntables were important parts deserved to be noticed at the perspective of safe maintenance.

  • In Top-down sites, there are many open sections around the tower crane installed on the steel frame. The open section near the tower crane may cause slab cracks and deformation of the steel frame members installed in the open section due to earth pressure. Therefore, in the field, additional consideration during construction of the open section near the tower crane should be considered.

  • Gangform compared with conventional wood and steel form is systemized form which has a capability to install and dismantle form at a time without repeating to assembly and disassembly small members. Gangform compared with ACS has some problems such as 1) Tower Crane load increase, 2) increase in safety incidence during climbing Gangform, 3) decrease in detachment operation productivity, 4) stop work due to climate impacts, and 5) decrease in labor cost, productivity, quality. A conceptual design model of automated Gangform climbing system is suggested for apartment housing construction to show its technical/economic feasibility and workers' safety while increasing operation productivity and concrete quality.

  • In this study, the deformation analysis is done at tower crane by applying the load at the end of jib and the moment at mast. The greatest stain and stress are happened at the end of wire supporting jib. The great deformation takes place at the end of jib applied by stress and there is no deformation at the lower part of mast. As the life becomes smallest at the upper part of mast, this part becomes weakest. The safety design and durability can be improved by applying the result of structural safety analysis at tower crane.

  • In this paper the structural analysis of a planet carrier was carried out for the design optimization of a slewing reducer used in tower cranes. The stress changes of the planet carrier according to the tolerance of interference fit were investigated, and the strength was evaluated on the basis of the stress level. The analysis results showed that the tolerance of interference fit have an important influence on the stress level of the planet carrier. To guarantee the static safety of carrier, the tolerances of carrier pinhole and planet pin as well as loading level exerted on the planet carrier should be determined considered correctly.

  • As construction projects have increased in size and height recently, lifting accounts for increasingly greater portion and tower cranes are used more frequently. At present, the selection and arrangement of tower crane are depend on the experience of experts. However, since the number of experts is fairly limited and a database for tower cranes regarding lifting capacity, operation properties, rent, etc has not been widely employed, tower cranes are often not effectively selected and arranged which can cause cost overruns and delays in the lifting work. To address such issues, this study attempts to perform a basic study for development of automatic arrangement algorithm of tower crane using drawing recognition. If relevant database is established and the algorithm suggested in this study is refined more systematically, even beginning level engineers will be able to plan tower crane arrangement in a way comparable to experienced experts.

  • Lifting plan in conjunction with the overall construction plan will be established. It is being created by executive director of the Corporation and other such as an experienced site manager. But, written lifting plan based on the limited information and experience is causing some problems such as decreasing productivity, workability loss, delay. The reasons for the problems are lack of prediction of construction execution, inappropriate materials on the past performance, individual experience, limits of knowledge, lack of technical materials, shortage of advisor. Therefore, to solve the problems, we have to overcome the situation in which we depends on lifting planner's experience and intuition, limited information by accumulating objective and reliable materials. Because unorganized lifting plan will lower efficiency of lifting equipment and make reducing construction period difficult. In this study, influence factors on lifting plans will be derived through reviewing literatures and lifting plan cases. Derived influence factors will be classified as components and classes, classified influence factors are assessed suitability. Also, Decision making items are derived from the factors. Finally, tower crane lifting plan process will be suggested from the result.

Examination of Modeling Methods for Tower Crane Transportation using Multibody Dynamics (다물체 동역학을 이용한 타워크레인 운송 모델링 방법 연구)

  • When a tower crane is carried by a transporter in shipyard, the height and length of the tower crane should be adjusted to meet the safety guidelines. Since the guidelines came from the field experience, the safety limitation needs to be analyzed by a computer simulation. In this paper, modeling methods are addressed to implement the appropriate transportation simulation of a tower crane. For the relation between the tower crane and the transporter, normal contact force, friction force, and kinematic constraints are compared. Assignment of relevant linear acceleration and angular velocity is considered for the transporter to start or move on an inclined ground surface. By using the examined modeling methods, the dynamic motion of tower crane transportation is analyzed by a dynamic simulation program, and comparison between the simulation result and analytic solution is made to verify the feasibility of the modeling methods.
