Seismic Design and Testing of Reduced Beam Section Steel Moment Connections with Bolted Web Attachment (웨브를 볼트로 접합한 보 플랜지 절취형(RBS) 철골모멘트접합부의 내진설계 및 성능평가)

  • Recent test results on reduced beam section (RBS) steel moment connections show that specimens with a bolted web connection tend to perform poorly due to premature brittle fracture of the beam flange at the weld access hole. A review of previous test results indicates that the higher incidence of base metal fracture in bolted-web specimens is related, at least in part, to the web bolt slippage and the high stress concentration at the weld access hole with the lowest material toughness. The practice of providing web bolts uniformly along the beam depth based on the classical beam theory is questioned in this paper. A new seismic design procedure, which is more consistent with the actual load path identified from the analytical and experimental studies, is proposed together with improved connection details. A test specimen designed following the proposed procedure exhibited a cyclic connection rotation capacity sufficient for special moment frames without fracture.

  • According with annual report by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), South Korea is at the top of the list of countries with bad air pollution (fine dust particles) and the South Korean government announced the cause to be due to the particle emissions of large and old diesel vehicles. To solve this issue, the government (jointly with related ministries), promoted the "Special Measures for Comprehensive Fine Dust Management Program" as a way to improve environmental pollution by reducing the overall output of fine dust particles emitted by public vehicles. The measure implemented a gas subsidy system to convert eco-friendly vehicles of city and chartered buses throughout the country. In this study, we take a look at the economical evaluation, comparison and analysis of the conversion of diesel vehicles to natural gas (CNG) vehicles. This report represent the basis for the need to expand the funds of the subsidy program and reviews the feasibility of the policy by taking into consideration the social and economical benefits and the effect in the environment when converting diesel fuel to natural gas vehicles through the type-specific fuel conversion scenarios.

DVI cable Improvement for Preventing MFD Abnormal Display of a Rotary-wing Aircraft (회전익 항공기 다기능시현기의 이상시현을 방지하기 위한 DVI 케이블 개선)

  • Multi-Function Display (MFD) of Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) displays image information(navigation, flight, topographical and maintenance information) delivered from Mission Computer (MC) during flight operation. The abnormal display of MFD such as flickering phenomenon was identified in the system development. It was solved by improving the shielding performance of the DVI cable and changing the DVI cable installation path at the first mass production. However, it was occurred again when the aircraft was operated for one or two years after delivery. It was also identified in the evaluation process of the derivative helicopters. Therefore, a comprehensive review of the aircraft system level has been performed to solve the problem of MFD malfunction at first and then a design improvement plan was derived by improving the DVI cable. In this paper, the causes of MFD anomalies are analyzed and also the process of design improvement are summarized. The validity of the improvement has been verified through the DVI cable assembly comparison test, SIL/ground/flight test.

A Study on the Degree of Collision Risk with Relative Bearing at CPA (최근접점 상대방위에 따른 선박충돌위험알고리즘 개발에 관한 연구)

  • When VTSOs(Vessel Traffic Service Operators) determine the degree of collision risk of two vessels, they consider comprehensively information about each vessel's course, speed, DCPA, TCPA and encountering situation. In this study, we proposed an algorithm in which two relative bearings as information about two vessel's encountering situation are used to evaluate the degree of collision risk. In order to verify whether the proposed algorithm is reasonable, we set twenty encountering situations and conducted a survey of collision risk on fifty three VTSOs about those situations. By comparing the degrees of collision risk with the proposed algorithm to the results of the survey, we found that relative bearing at CPA is very important factor for VTSO to recognize the level of collision risk when two vessels are in encountering situation.

  • The 'Comprehensive Plan for Nurturing Digital Talents' reported at the Cabinet meeting of the Ministry of Education in August 2022 focuses on qualitative and quantitative expansion of informatics education centered on SW, AI education. With the advent of the era of artificial intelligence, data science education is also drawing attention as a field of informatics education. Data science is originally a field where various studies are fused, and advanced technologies are being used for data analysis, modeling, and machine learning. This study devised a draft of the instructional model of data science education through literature research and analysis of previous studies, and developed a final instructional model through usability test and expert validation.

  • Modern marine navigation requires officers on the bridge to monitor a torrent of data on both the insides and outsides of the ship from numerous useful devices. But despite these tools, navigators can still find it difficult to make a safe decision for two reasons: one is that too much data if provided too quickly tends to cause fatigue and overwhelm the officer, and the other is that any inconsistency across data from several different types of devices can lead to confusion. Indeed, the fact remains that the many marine accidents can be attributed to human error, and hence there is a strong need for decision-support tools for marine navigation. One technique of providing decision support is through the use of simulation to evaluate or predict system dynamics over time using an accurate model. This paper, as a simulation method for risk prediction for a navigation safety information system of ship, suggests a navigation prediction simulation system using various knowledge bases and discrete event simulation methodology, and supports the validity of the system through the examples of components in a restricted navigation situation scenario.

  • This study focused on the fact that limitations of implementing school-centric models and standards of information literacy construction. This study was conducted with the purpose of developing and validating an instructional model to effectively design and practice online information literacy instruction for upper elementary school students based on a public library. Through a review of prior literature and analysis of current status and cases, a primary model was developed including the definition and area of information literacy, learning stages and activities, conceptual and procedural model, and teaching and learning plan. In addition, the first and second expert surveys were conducted to evaluate the internal validity of the model. The final model was derived by synthesizing and converging the collected opinions. As a result of the study, the final model consisted of 7 areas: 'Information literacy concept', 'Instruction component area', 'Conceptual model', 'Procedure model', 'Design principles and detailed guidelines', and 'Learning Steps and Activities' and 'Teaching and Learning Plan'.

Development of Competency Model for Beginning Teachers in Home Economics (가정과 초임교사 역량모델 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a 'Competency Model for Beginning Teachers in Home Economics'. The study was conducted in a total of 4 stages(preparation of competency model development stage, materialization stage, validity verification stage, and competency diagnosis stage), and the results of the study were as follows. First, the first tentative competency model was derived through the literature study, and the secondary tentative competency model was derived through an FGI. The validity of the secondary tentative competency model was verified by 15 experts and the competency groups, competencies, and competency definitions from this study were found to have content validity. Second, the competency diagnosis was conducted for a total of 222 beginning teachers in Home Economics. As a result, a total of 7 competencies were derived as the 'top priority competencies' that are of first priority for beginner teachers in Home Economics. The final competency model which was developed by reflecting the research results, was composed of 4 competency groups and 22 competencies and 22 competency definitions. The competencies of each competency group were presented in the order that beginning teachers thought were important. This study is meaningful in that it used an FGI and competency diagnosis to identify beginning teachers' perceptions and demands of the competencies and reflect the results on the competency model development.

Application of ECVAM as a Indicator for Monitoring National Environment in Korea (국토환경 모니터링 지표로서의 국토환경성평가지도 활용방안)

  • Objectives of the Korean Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map (ECVAM) is to evaluate environmental value used in comprehensive environmental information in order to encourage eco-friendly land use and management. The first research was conducted in 2001 to establish the evaluation items and the criteria of the ECVAM, and the first nationwide map was established in the period of 2003 to 2005. The maps are updated annually to reflect environmental changes of land. The evaluation items and the criteria have been modified based on feasibility studies to improve the accuracy of the maps. This study re-evaluated the ECVAMs from 2005 to 2010 with criteria used in current environment and analyzed the changes in the area of the maps in 6 years. This is also an investigation on the maps whether they are appropriate as an index for sustainable environmental monitoring. The result shows that the 1st grade level of the ECVAM area with the highest conservation value had been expanding since 2005. These changes were analyzed in terms of updating the 4th Forest Map (2008) produced once every 10 years, reflecting the new legal protected areas such as Baekdudaegan Protected Area(2010), and the environmental/ecological assessment items such as the National Ecological Network (2009). This mean the ECVAM are a monitoring index that integrates individual environmental indexes including the increase of forest age and diameter due to sustainable management of forest areas, and the change of conservation areas. Therefore, ECVAM can be used as a new index integrating national environmental indicators for monitoring changes of national environment and policy. In order to utilize the ECVAM, improving accuracy and reducing renewal cycle time of thematic maps are required.

Field Load Test Results and Suggestion of Simple Settlement Estimation Method for Granular Compaction Piles (조립토 다짐말뚝에 대한 현장재하시험 결과 및 간편 침하량 산정방법의 제시)

  • In the previous studies, settlement behaviors of granular compaction piles have generally been analyzed with an evaluation of the settlement reduction factor based on tile load-sharing ratio and the replacement ratio. In this approach, however, since the reinforced ground with granular compaction piles is simplified as the composite ground, only the difference of a relative vertical strength between piles and soils is taken into account without reflecting lateral behaviors of granular compaction piles. In the companion research paper, the method of estimating the settlement of granular compaction piles was proposed by synthetically considering a vertical strength of the ground, lateral behaviors of granular compaction piles, the strength of pile materials, a pile diameter, and an installation distance of the pile. In the presented study, to validate a propriety of the previously proposed method, large scale field load tests and three dimensional numerical analyses are performed. The results are analyzed in detail and compared with the predicted settlements by the proposed method. Finally, a simple method to estimate the settlement of granular compaction piles is suggested for an easy application of the practical design.
