Urban industrial and structure and diversification:converging trend among urban economies (도시산업구조와 다변화:도시경제간의 수렴성향)

  • This study examines the competitiveness of urban industrial structure and its changing characteristics. Cluster analysis of Arizona towns based on economic functions revealed the changing characteristics of urban functions over time. The relationship between the changes of urban functions and industrial competitiveness was confirmed through shift-share analysis. The level of industrial specialization has become more closely related to urban size in terms of both population and employment, but the relationship between metropolitan location and specialization level is not clear. Also, it is validated that the economies of Arizona towns have become more diversified and, consequently, have tended to converge toward the state average in industrial structure over time.

Local and Normal Modes of OH Stretching Vibration in Hydrogen-Bonded Water Molecules (수소 결합한 물 분자에서 OH 신축 진동의 국소모드와 정규모드)

  • The validity of the calculation method based on the local mode in hydrogen-bonded water molecules was investigated by comparing the frequencies of the local and normal modes of OH stretching vibration in water molecules. By calculating a monomer, dimer, and trimer of water molecules using a quantum chemical ab initio theory, we examined how the frequencies of the local and normal modes and the anharmonicity of local modes vary with molecular cluster size. It was shown that, as the number of molecules increases from monomer to trimer, the anharmonicity of OH bonds increases and the difference between local and normal mode frequencies decreases. This confirms that local-mode-based calculations that can easily handle the anharmonicity can be appropriate for the calculation of the OH stretching frequency of water molecules in the condensed phase.

  • Information from various heterogeneous devices is steadily increasing in distributed cloud environments. This is because high-speed network speeds and high-capacity multimedia data are being used. However, research is still underway on how to minimize information errors in big data sent and received by heterogeneous devices. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based asymmetric storage management technique for minimizing bandwidth and data errors in networks generated by information sent and received in cloud environments. The proposed technique applies deep learning techniques to optimize the load balance after asymmetric hash of the big data information generated by each device. The proposed technique is characterized by allowing errors in big data collected from each device, while also ensuring the connectivity of big data by grouping big data into groups of clusters of dogs. In particular, the proposed technique minimizes information errors when storing and managing big data asymmetrically because it used a loss function that extracted similar values between big data as seeds.

  • The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) is one of the most established software in bioinformatics research and it compares a query sequence against the libraries of known sequences in order to investigate sequence similarity. Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) are single-pass sequence reads from mRNA (or cDNA) and represent the expression for a given cDNA library and the snapshot of genes expressed in a given tissue and/or at a given developmental stage. Therefore, ESTs can be very valuable information for functional genomics and bioinformatics researches. Although major bio database (DB) websites including NCBI are providing BLAST services and EST data, local DB and search system is demanding for better performance and security issue. Here we present animal EST DBs and local BLAST search system. The animal ESTs DB in NCBI Genbank were divided by animal species using the Perl script we developed. and we also built the new extended DB search systems fur the new data (Local Animal BLAST Search System: http://bioinfo.kohost.net), which was constructed on the high-capacity PC Cluster system fur the best performance. The new local DB contains 650,046 sequences for Bos taurus(cattle), 368,120 sequences for Sus scrofa (pig), 693,005 sequences for Gallus gallus (fowl), respectively.

A Study on the Genomic Patterns of SARS coronavirus using Bioinformtaics Techniques (바이오인포매틱스 기법을 활용한 SARS 코로나바이러스의 유전정보 연구)

  • Since newly emerged disease, the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), spread from Asia to North America and Europe rapidly in 2003, many researchers have tried to determine where the virus came from. In the phylogenetic point of view, SARS virus has been known to be one of the genus Coronavirus, but, the overall conservation of SARS virus sequence was not highly similar to that of known coronaviruses. The natural reservoirs of SARS-CoV are not clearly determined, yet. In the present study, the genomic sequences of SARS-CoV were analyzed by bioinformatics techniques such as multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis methods as well multivariate statistical analysis. All the calculating processes, including calculations of the relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU) and other genomic parameters using 30,305 coding sequences from the two genera, Coronavirus, and Lentivirus, and one family, Orthomyxoviridae, were performed on SMP cluster in KISTI, Supercomputing Center. As a result, SARS_CoV showed very similar RSCU patterns with feline coronavirus on the both axes of the correspondence analysis, and this result showed more agreeable results with serological results for SARS_CoV than that of phylogenetic result itself. In addition, SARS_CoV, human immunodeficiency virus, and influenza A virus commonly showed the very low RSCU differences among each synonymous codon group, and this low RSCU bias might provide some advantages for them to be transmitted from other species into human beings more successfully. Large-scale genomic analysis using bioinformatics techniques may be useful in genetic epidemiology field effectively.

Characteristics of Poly(vinyl phenol) Ionomers Neutralized by LiOH and Their Miscibility with Poly(methyl methacrylate) (Li으로 중화된 폴리비닐페놀 이오노머의 특성 및 폴리메틸메타크릴레이트와의 혼화성)

  • Poly(4-vinyl phenol) (PVPh) was neutralized by LiOH and PVPh ionomers (PVPh-Li) with different Li neutralization extents were synthesized. The variation in $T_{g}$ with Li neutralization was determined by DSC and the results show that the $T_{g}$ increases by 3.$8^{\circ}C$ per Li mol%. When comparing this result with the 3.$2^{\circ}C$ per Na mol% reported for poly (styrene-co-hydroxy styrene), the greater value for PVPh-Li may be due to a strong interaction between unneutralized free -OH and -OLi produced. No distinct small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) peak was observed for these PVPh ionomers in bulk. In the 50/50 blend of PVPh-Li with PVPh, the miscibile blend was obtained when the Li neutralization in PVPh-Li was 10 mol%. On the contrary, the 50/50 PVPh-Li/PMMA was immiscible when the Li neutralization was 5 mol%. It can be concluded that, even if the starting blend is miscible owing to hydrogen bonding, the miscibility of blend becomes diminished by introducing small amount of ion groups into one of the constituent polymers and the blend can be immiscible as long as any new strong intermolecular ion-dipole interaction is not generated.

  • Magnetic properties of transition metal doped $La_{0.5}Ca_{0.5}(Mn_{0.98}TM_{0.02})O_3$(TM=Cr and Ti) are studied. The samples are synthesized by the conventional solid-state method. Using vibrating sample magnetometer magnetization-temperature measurement were carried out with zero field cooling and field cooling at 50 Oe. Cr-doped sample shows cluster or spin glass like behavior while Ti doped does not. Curie temperature obtained were decreased from that of LCMO(245.5 K). Curie temperatures of Cr-doped and Ti-doped samples are 235.5 K and 232.7 K, respectively. The temperature-dependent coercivity $H_c(T)$ was also measured. The coercive force continuously decreases with the substitution of Cr and Ti, The result can be understood in terms of the interaction between defect and domain wall.
