  • Slip form method is applied to many cases of a shaft these days because it is safer, more economical and faster than cast-in-place method. Slip-up height of the method is approximately 2.5 to 4.0 m/day. If the temperature of concrete is outside the range of 10 to 30℃, the effects of changes in strength or elastic characteristics are significant. Therefore, it is difficult for slip-up speed to be higher than 3 m/day during winter construction. In addition, concrete has heat caused by hydration, which causes temperature cracking of hardened concrete. Therefore, temperature control of concrete curing is necessary for the continuous slip-up of slip form. In this study, the rebound hardness, time of ultrasonic waves propagation, heat of hydration, and external temperature are measured by developing heating panels and test devices for the continuous slip-up. Based on this, heating slip form is manufactured; this was applied to "Kimpo sites" and "Sinwol sites". The compared slip-up speed samples were 1.9 m/day or 0.200 m/hr on average at Gimpo sites (08:00~17:30) and 2.0 m/day or 0.210 m/hr at Sinwol sites.

  • This study is to derive from the required performances and the optimum mix proportion of the roof concrete placed in the in-ground LNG storage tank with a capacity of 200000 $m^3$, and propose the actual data for site concrete work. The concrete placing work without sliding and segregation in the fresh concrete condition is very important because the slope of domed roof is varied in the large range by its curvature. Also the control of hydration heat and the strength development at test ages are classified with massive section about 1.4 m thick and considered to the pre-stressing work and removal of air support after concrete placing work. Considering above condition, slump range is selected $100{\pm}25$ mm under the slope $20^{\circ}$ and $150{\pm}25$ mm over the slope $20^{\circ}$ s until 60 minutes of elapsed time. Also, the roof concrete is satisfied with compressive strength range including design strength at 91 days (30 MPa), pre-stressing work at 7 days (10 MPa), air support removal work at 21 days (14 MPa). Replacement ratio of limestone powder is determined by confined water ratio test and main design factors include water-cement ratio (W/C), sand-aggregate ratio and dosage of admixture. As test results, the optimum mix proportion of the roof concrete used low heat cement is as followings. 1) Replacement ratio of limestone powder 25% by confined water ratio test 2) Water-cement ratio 57.8% 3) Sand-aggregate ratio 42.0%. Also, test results for the adiabatic temperature rising test is satisfied with its criteria and shown the lower value compared to preceding storage tank (TK-13, 14). These required performances and the optimum mix proportion is to apply the actual construction work.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop a slurry-type accelerator that contains various beneficial properties such as reduction of dust generation, lower alkalinity, early age strength development, etc., and uses such slurry type accelerator to produce high performance shotcrete that present excellent resistant against chloride ion penetration. In this work, shotcrete mixtures of 0.44 and 0.338 water-to-binder ratio (w/b) were produced at construction site using slurry-type accelerator. The mechanical properties and chloride ion penetration resistance of such shotcrete (including base concrete) were evaluated. According to the experimental results, the slurry-type accelerator was successfully used to produce both w/b 0.44 and 0.338 shotcretes. The 1 day and 28 day compressive strength of shotcrete were found to be closer to or higher than 10MPa and 40MPa, respectively. The w/b 0.338 shotcrete that used 40% replacement of blast furnace slag showed lower compressive strength than w/b 0.44 shotcrete without any mineral admixture at 1 day. However, the compressive strength with 40% blast furnace slag increased significantly at 28 day. Moreover, there was more than 50% increase in chloride ion penetration resistance with blast furnace slag, showing its strong potential for higher performance shotcrete application.

  • The grouted splice steeve has been applied widely due to its superior construction efficiency, such as the unnecessity of post concrete and the large allowable limit to the arrangement of reinforcing bars. However, studies on grout-filled splice steeve still have not been sufficiently peformed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the confining effect of mortar grouted splice sleeve on reinforcing bar, known to strengthen the bond capacity between grout mortar and reinforcing bar. To accomplish this objective, totally 6 full-sized specimens were made and tested under monotonic loading. Each specimens were equipped with strain gauges at the 12 location of sleeve and reinforcing bar. The experimental variables adopted in this study are embedment length and size of reinforcing bars. Following conclusions are obtained; 1) Under ultimate strength condition, the confining pressure of grouted splice sleeve calculated from measured tangential and axial strain of the sleeve is over $200{\sim}300kgf/{cm}^2$ at any location of sleeve and improved with reduction in embedment length of reinforcing bar. 2) Untrauer and Henry's equation which describe bond strength of mortar as a function of its compressive strength and confining pressure, predicted the measured bond capacity of this test within the 5% limits.

  • Recently, necessities of steel form for reinforced concrete beam and girder have been emphasized in building structures for the reduction of the construction period and the labor cost. SY Beam was developed for the these purposes and is roll-formed using thin steel plate. On this research, we tried to evaluate and verify the performance and behavior of SY Beam under construction loading stage as like pouring in situ concrete. For the standard shape of SY beam, structural modelling with various steel thicknesses has carried out using MIDAS GEN program. From results of modelling, the width and height of SY Beam were determined 600mm and 400mm respectively. For 3 SY Beams, the loading experiment was performed to measure vertical and horizontal displacement under stacking sand, concrete block, and bundle of rebar. As a result, the vertical deflection showed a tendency to decrease as the thickness increased. In the horizontal displacement, the trend according to the thickness was not clearly observed. From the evaluation on the loading experiment, it is considered that the SY Beam can secure both workability and structural safety. In particular, the SY Beam(1.2mm) hardly generates horizontal displacement, so it has excellent load-bearing capacity. So, we judged that the SY Beam with 1.2mm steel plate has excellent performance and consider to be immediately commercially available.

  • In this paper, an embedded EM sensor was researched to estimate prestressing force of PS tendon in PSC girder. Recent methodologies for managing prestressing force loss were staying on verifying a applying prestressing force under construction, namely the loss management can not be controlled after construction. To estimate the tensile force of PS tendon during lifetime of PSC girder, this research proposed a bobbin-type embedded EM sensor that can be embedded in PSC girder is designed and fabricated considering the shape properties of anchorage zone and sheath. To verify the proposed sensor, a small PSC girder test was performed. The embedded EM sensor was connected to a sheath and anchor block, and the concrete was poured. After curing, the change of the permeability of PS tendon under tensile forces of 200, 710, 1070, 1300kN was measured using embedded EM sensor. The permeability of PS tendon had decreased according to the increment of applied tensile force. Also it is confirmed that the change of permeability due to applied tensile force could resolve the applied tensile force values. As a result, proposed embedded EM sensor could be embed into the PSC girder and it could be used to estimate the tensile force variation during lifetime of PSC girder.

  • Slim floor system using deep decks has been developed and employed in Europe to reduce the floor height of steel structures. Although long span buildings involving the issue of reducing floor height are being increasingly built in Korea, employing deep decks in more than 7m long span structures is likely to cause problems associated with excessive deflection. This study is applied to the long-span concrete casting of the deep deck plate usability of deflection due to bending and torsional instability of open cross-section, as a way to improve the problem of cap plates are suggested, and the optimum length of reinforcement and location are derived from theoretic estimation. The cap plates are placed on the deep decks with regular intervals to overcome the instability of open sections, improve the stiffness of the sections and control the deflection at the centers. The improvement in flexural capacity associated with the location of the cap plates and the length of reinforcement are verified through analysis and test.

  • Safety-conscious design on site is required for site constructions because of the introduction of the design for safety, but it still leaves much to be desired. This study compared the site where the design was applied and the site where it was not applied. The applied case examined the underground wall construction during frame construction, which corresponds to the skeleton of the building construction. The underground wall construction is quite risky due to the exposure to exterior environments and involvement of various stages, such as scaffolding, formwork, reinforcing work, and concrete casting work. Therefore, the risk factors for each stage were identified and a risk assessment was carried out to select an alternative method to reduce the risk. The risk factors of the selected alternative construction method were also identified and a risk assessment was conducted. The risk assessment weight was calculated by comparing the site where the construction method was applied and the site where it was not, explaining the necessity of the design for safety in reducing the risk. In addition, an actual case where an alternative construction method was used was studied to highlight the necessity for a design for safety.

  • Related to the previous paper on the typical crack pattern of tunnel lining with NATM, the characteristic defects in reinforced cement concrete lining of NATM tunnel have analyzed with the precise inspection with safety and diagnosis (PISD) by KISTEC. Depending on the reinforcing materials, steel rebar, steel fiber, and glass fiber have been implemented to reinforcing lining in various NATM tunnel constructions. Reinforcing lining with rebar are prevailed on NATM tunnel to countermeasure the weak geological circumstances, to pursuit the economical tunnel sections, and to resist the risk of tunnel deterioration. By the special act on the safety control of public facilities, the reinforced NATM tunnels for more than 1 km length are scrutinized closely to characterize defects; crack, reinforcement exposure, and lack of lining. Crack resistance by reinforcing is shown in comparison with the normalized crack to the length of tunnel. Typical exposed reinforcements in lining have exemplified with various sections. The lack of lining due to the mal-construction, spalling, fire, earthquake and leaching has been analyzed. The cause and mechanism with the field inspections and other studies has also been verified. Detailed cases are selected by the above concerns as well as the basic information from FMS (Facilities Management System). Likewise the previous paper, this study provides specialized defects in reinforced lining of NATM and it can be widely used in spreading the essential technics and reporting skills. Furthermore, it would be advised and amended for the detail guideline of Safety Diagnosis and PISD (tunnel).
