  • Cement hydrates and the related characteristics change with ages, and the behaviors are much related with chloride diffusion. In this work, 30% replacement ratio with FA(Fly Ash) and GGBFS(Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) are considered for concrete with three levels of W/B (Water to Binder ratio) and 2 years of curing period. Chloride diffusion coefficients from accelerated condition are obtained at 5 measurement period (28days, 56days, 180days, 365days, and 730days), and the results are compared with porosity, binding capacity, and permeability from program-DUCOM. The similar changing pattern between chloride diffusion and permeability is observed since permeability is proportional to the square of porosity. Curing period is grouped into 4 periods and the changing ratios are investigated. Cement hydrate characteristics such as porosity, permeability, and diffusion coefficient are dominantly changed at the early ages (28~56 days), and diffusion coefficient in OPC concrete with low W/B continuously changes to 180days.

  • In this study utilize industry product for OPC(ordinary portland cement) and BFS(blast furnace slag) mixing concrete early age compressive strength elevation and executed study for high strength binder. Association ratio of industry product for high strength binder manufacture is Titanogypsum (4) : Limestone (3) : Waterworks Sludge by ratio of (3) as it is proper move. high strength binder mixing rate appeared that (7~9) % are proper via preliminary test. Could confirm that display high compressive strength incidence rate in early age than plain harmony according as mix high strength binder mixing concrete compressive strength high strength binder. Also, high strength binder generality that give function than high strength binder used in existing displayed more excellent intensity, and compressive strength displayed result that multiply single breadth according as high strength binder substitute that give function increases.

  • An incremental approach to predict the time dependent flexural behavior of composite girder is presented in the framework of incremental finite element method. Age dependent nature of creep, shrinkage, and maturing of elastic modulus of concrete is prescribed in the incremental tangent description of constitutive relation derived based on the first order Taylor series expansion applying to the total from of stress-strain relation. The loop phenomenon in which age dependent nature of concrete causes stress redistribution and it causes creep in turn is taken into account in the formulation through the incremental representation of constitutive relation. The developed algorithm predicts the time dependent deflections of 4.8m long two span double composite box girder subjected to shrinkage, maturing of elastic modulus, and creep initially induced by self weight. Comparison shows a good agreement between the predicted and measured results.

  • The characteristics of concrete strength and fracture parameters of recycled aggregate concrete were investigated to apply to the concrete pavements. As the results, the early strength of recycled aggregate concrete showed to be lower than that of natural coarse aggregate concrete, whereas strength at 28 days showed to be similar. Young's modulus of recycled aggregate concrete was lower than that of natural coarse aggregate concrete due to the difference of aggregate strength. And recycled aggregate concrete contained with ground granulated blast furnace slag seemed to have an effect of strength increasing. The critical stress intensity factor of recycled aggregate concrete at the early age was increased, and converged to be similar, compared to natural aggregate concrete at later age. The reliability of two-parameter fracture model was identified by the good correlation between the theoretical value computed by P-CMOD relationship and experimental results for Young's modulus and tensile strength.

  • Volume of concrete slab changes by variations of temperature and moisture after its placement. Shrinkage due to evaporation causes tensile stress in the slab when contraction of the slab is restrained by its self weight, friction with subbase, and etc. Actual tensile stress caused by the shrinkage was less than theoretically predicted stress according to previous studies. It was the stress reduction due to visco-elastic property of the early-age concrete slab partially restrained. In this study, strains of restrained circumferential, unrestrained circumferential, and unrestrained square pillar concrete specimens were measured to investigate stress reduction of the specimens with age of concrete. Elastic modulus of the concrete was measured at the age of 1, 3, 7, 14, 28 days and penetration test was performed. The stress reduction was calculated by input the test results into theoretical equations suggested by previous researchers. The stress reduction of the restrained concrete specimens will be applied to design of concrete pavements based on results of the study.

  • In this study, to analyze the correlation between hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage of high strength concrete at an early age, hydration heating velocity and autogenous shrinking velocity as quantitative coefficients which represent the main properties of hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage were proposed. Two coefficients were calculated by statistical analysis and were equal with the regression coefficient. The complemented semi-adiabatic temperature rise test as test method to evaluate the hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage of concrete were proposed. In results of proposed test and analysis method, it was possible that early age properties of hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage of concrete were expressed numerically, and autogenous shrinkage was represented by equation with coefficients of hydration heat.

  • Concrete is a durable and cost-benefit construction material, however performance degradation occurs due to steel corrosion exposed to chloride attack. Penetration of chloride ion usually decreases due to hydrates formation and reduction of pores, and the reduced chloride behavior is considered through decreasing diffusion coefficient with time. In the work, HPC (High Performance Concrete) samples are prepared with 3 levels of W/B (water to binder) ratios of 0.37, 0.42, and 0.27 and 3 levels of replacement ratios of 0%, 30% and 50%. Several tests containing chloride diffusion coefficient, passed charge, and compressive strength are performed considering age effect of 28 days and 180 days. Chloride diffusion is more reduced in OPC concrete with lower W/B ratio and GGBFS concrete with 50% replacement ratio shows significant reduction of chloride diffusion in higher W/B ratio. At the age of 28 days, GGBFS concrete with 50% replacement ratio shows more rapid reduction of chloride diffusion than strength development, which reveals that abundant GGBFS replacement has effective resistance to chloride penetration even in the early-aged condition.

  • Compressive strength in concrete increases with time. Regression analysis with time is conventionally performed for strength evaluation and prediction. In this study, hydrate amount is assumed as a function of hydration rate and porosity, and modeling on compressive strength is carried out considering decreasing porosity with time, which does not need the regression analysis with time. For twenty one mix proportions of HPC (High Performance Concrete), DUCOM (FE program) which can simulate the behavior in early aged concrete is utilized, and porosity from each mix proportions is obtained with time. For HPC with OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) concrete, modeling on compressive strength is performed considering hydration rate, unit content of cement, and porosity with time. For HPC with mineral admixtures, a long-term parameter which can handle long-term strength development is additionally considered. From the comparison with the previous test results, the applicability of the proposed model is verified.
