De -icing salts have been used commonly in areas where snow or ice is a seasonal safety hazard for roadway, however, the salts is one of main causes on serious deterioration of road infrastructures in crowded urban city like Seoul. In order to establish maintenance strategy of road infrastructures under de-icing salts laden environment, it is necessary to examine environmental characteristics and its response to the existing facilities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the deterioration environment of road infrastructures. Additional purpose is to develop a design model and details for durability design of infrastructures under de-icing salts laden environment, considering mainly a build-up rate of surface chlorides. Concentration of external chloride solution and surface chloride content were calculated at the level of average de-icing salts for 5 years, ratio of auxiliary road of 17.5 to 30%, and effective exposure area to snow 50 to 80%. The chloride build-up rate was 0.073 ~ 0.077% / year and the maximum surface chloride content was calculated to be 2.2 ~ 2.31% by concrete wt. This study is expected to be used for establishing integrated strategy of road infrastructures, such as predicting chloride profiles or degree of chemical corrosion to exposure concrete.

In this study, deterioration degrees of concrete were investigated at laboratory under seawater attack and cycling freeze-thaw, which are major durability performance deterioration factors of concrete. Deteriorations of mixed concrete using Portland & blended cement were examined by instrumental analysis of changes in relative dynamic modulus of elasticity and compressive strength. After 520 cycles of freeze-thaw, relative dynamic modulus of elasticity and compressive strength of concrete mixed with normal Portland and LHC over 75% showed relatively low resistance of approximately 44% of those values of SRC. Concrete replaced with 50% fine powder of blast furnace slag showed the most excellent freeze-thaw resistance among the tested blended cement concrete.

Underground concrete structures are constructed under a geographical environment called underground and exposed to various environments that promote deterioration. Among them, groundwater promotes deterioration of underground concrete structures due to contaminated water from the ground. In this study, the chemical resistance performance test evaluation of five different receptors for a total of 15-type leakage repair materials of five series was conducted to determine the chemical stability of the leakage repair material used in the crack area. The results show a general increase and decrease in most chemical receptors, but the biggest increase and decrease was shown in acrylic systems, which were found in sodium chloride and sodium hydroxide, and epoxy was found in hydrochloric acid. The cement system is showing a lot of increase and decrease in sodium chloride. It is expected that the results of these studies will be used as a basis for chemical stabilization in the development of new materials.

With the passing of time, exposed concrete structures are affected by a range of environmental, chemical, and physical factors. These factors seep into the concrete and have a deleterious influence compared to the initial performance. The importance of identifying and preventing further performance degradation due to the occurrence of deterioration has been greatly emphasized. In recent years, evaluations of the target life have attracted increasing interest. During the freezing-melting effect, a part of the concrete undergoes swelling and shrinking repeatedly. At these times, chloride ions present in seawater penetrate into the concrete, and accelerate the deterioration due to the corrosion of reinforced bars in the concrete structures. For that reason, concrete structures located onshore with a freezing-melting effect are more prone to this type of deterioration than inland structures. The aim of this study was to develop a high performance mortar mixed with a mineral admixture for the durability properties of concrete structures near sea water. In addition, experimental studies were carried out on the strength and durability of mortar. The mixing ratio of the silica fume and meta kaolin was 3, 7 and 10 %, respectively. Furthermore, the ultra-fine fly ash was mixed at 5, 10, 15, and 20%. The mortar specimens prepared by mixing the admixtures were subjected to a static strength test on the 1st and 28th days of age and degradation acceleration tests, such as the chloride ion penetration resistance test, sulfuric acid resistance test, and salt resistant test, were carried out at 28 days of age. The chloride diffusion coefficient was calculated from a series of rapid chloride penetration tests, and used to estimate the life time against corrosion due to chloride ion penetration according to the KCI, ACI, and FIB codes. The life time of mortar with 10% meta kaolin was the longest with a service life of approximately 470 years according to the KCI code.

Concrete scaling is the progressive surface deterioration of susceptible subjected to freeze-thaw cycling in the presence of moisture. Particularly, it has been recognized that chlorides present in deicing agents can significantly increase concrete surface scaling. Domestic area of most be happened chloride deicer damage. Because daily mean temperature is below 0$^{\circ}C$ from the area of domestic most. Use of deicing chemicals has been and will continue to be a major part of highway snow and ice control methods. Chloride-containing chemicals such as calcium chloride or rock salt are main deicers for the road. Extensive use of chloride deicers is, however, not only the source of substantial cost penalties due to their corrosive action and ability to deterioration roadway surface materials but also the source of environmental damages. In this study, Use of (40, 27, 21MPa) pavement concrete analyze freeze-thaw test and scaling on the chlorides present.

The studies on chloride diffusion of concrete have been done so far by many researchers. However, there are few studies that present the effects of other attacks on chloride diffusion properties. Therefore, in this study the experiments are carried out to show the effects of combined attacks, such as carbonation, sulfate attacks, on chloride diffusivity in concrete. The specimens are made by varying cement type and replacement ratio of fly ash. The results show that cement type and replacement of fly ash do not affect greatly chloride diffusion properties. And concrete treated by combined attacks show a little higher chloride content than those treated by chloride solution only. Therefore, the effects of these factors should be taken into account in predicting the penetration of chloride ion in concrete.

Scaling deterioration and resistance to freezing of port concrete structures due to the combined effects of chemical actions by containning chlorides and the freeze-thaw action is also a problem which has not yet been fundamentally solved. Furthermore, deterioration of concrete surface was considered as accelerate factor of concrete durability tended to decrease. Therefore, we considered the scaling measuring method and decreasing influence of durability of concrete according to kind of binders, such as OPC, Slag, Slag+Fa, due to freeze and thaw of concrete by containing chlorides. As a results of this study, it was effective method of scaling deterioration and resistance freewing of concrete, and confirmed the salt deterioration resistance effect to use slag binder against to containing chlorides.

The objective of this study is to develop finite element analysis technique to predict the strength reduction of deteriorated reinforced concrete beams and their strengthening capacity. In order to consider the effect of rebar corrosion, a tension stiffening model is proposed and area reduction of rebars due to corrosion is considered. For the analysis of strengthened deteriorated RC beams, one dimensional truss element and an interface element are introduced for models of the strengthening composite and the interface between concrete and composite to simulate delamination or discontinuous behavior at the interface. Then, analyses for deteriorated RC beams strengthened with glass fiber reinforced epoxy panel (GFREP) are carried out to predict both flexural failure and plate-end delamination failure. Finally, analysis results are verified with experimental results.

Concrete structures have been damaged by salt, carbonization, freezing and thawing and the others. Therefore, it is needed to protect durability and performance according to the appropriate materials and methods in the concrete structures. In general, several types of polymer and silicate are used as protecting deterioration agents of concrete structures, but these agents have many problems because of low durability and properties. In this study, It developed the deterioration restraining agent using polycondensed silicate and monomer that can block a deterioration cause such as $CO_2$ gas, salt and water from the outside and enhance waterproofing ability by reinforcing the concrete surface when applying it to concrete structures. Also, it developed the systems for improving concrete performance using a deterioration restraining agent.
