  • Square hollow section columns and H-section beams have recently been increasing1y used. Rigid column-beam connections cannot be made for the structural system and thus some measures to improve the rotational stiffness of connections should be developed. For this purpose, several types of connections. such as H-section beams connected to concrete-filled square hollow section columns, have been contrived and put to experiment. Since the experimental works are usually difficult and expensive. Particularly test of all the types of connections with similar behavior may not be feasible. Instead, the numerical analysis will be adopted predict the flexural stiffness of connections. In this work, FEM modeling techniques are examined and parametric analysis study has been carried out. The major parameters considered are concrete strength, thickness of steel column, magnitude and eccentricity of axial forces.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of concrete-filled steel tubular column-H beam connections with exterior stiffeners. As a preliminary test, simple tensile test on the column to H-beam flange connections stiffened were conducted The paramaters of tensile test are the thickness(T=9, 12, 15m) and the width(W=50, 75, 100, 150mm) of exterior stiffeners. The simple tensile test were conducted to 7 kinds of specimens. Estimating the load, displacement, and strain from each kind, results of simple tensile test were compared with results of second test. On the basis of simple tensile test, test on the column to H-km connections stiffened with the sames under monotonic and cyclic load were conducted. Specimens of 5 for the second experiment were made. In analysis, comparing each strengthes and stiffnesses we estimated deformation capacity. Comparing and estimating each yielding strength ratios and maxium-strength ratios on the basis of yield line theory, new strength formula of beam-to-column connections was suggested.

The simple tensile test were conducted to 5 kinds of specimens. Estimating the load. displacement and strain for specimens, the result of tensile test were compared with the results of main test. On the basis of simple tensile test, tests are conducted to montonic and cyclic loading column to H-beam connections with the same diameters of rebars. Specimens of 5 are made for monotonic and cyclic loading test. In analysis, estimating the yielding strength and maximum strength of specimens on the basis of yield line theory, strength formula of beam-to column connections with concrete-filled steel tubular column was suggested.

The first, we made experiment on the Column to H-beam flange connections stiffened with simple tensile loading. The paramaters of tensile experiment are the area of each plates. The simple tensile experiment is conducted to 5 kinds of specimens. Eestimating the load, displacement, and strain from each kind, we compared them with results of second experiment. The second, we made experiment on the Column to H-beam connections stiffened with the sames under monotonic and cyclic load. we made specimens of 5 for the second experiment. In analysis, comparing each strengthes and stiffnesses we estimated deformation capacity. Comparing and estimating each yielding strength ratios and maxium-strength ratios on the basis of Yield line theory, we suggested new Strength Formula of Beam-to-Column Connections.

  • This paper is the first step on the study of the industrialization of the mid-story steel building structures. The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of concrete-filled square steel tubular column to H-beam connections using angles and high tension bolts. The tests are carried out with five types of specimens under static loading and the main parameter is the thickness of angles. Yield-line theory which obtains connection strength by way of the lowest value based on upper-limit theory is applied to predict strength formulas.

  • It researched several jointing-methods of frame consisting of a concrete-filled steel tubular column and H-shaped beam. These beam-to-column connections is parameters to following: columns of square shape pipe infilled with or without concrete, joints assembled two types of diaphragm, outside-type and through-type. And it is testing that cyclically lateral loadings used hydraulic ram. In testing. we'll be on purposed to estimate the hysteretic behavior, strength and stiffness, energy absorption capacity, deformation capacity and failure configuration of each specimen. It is concluded that the frame specimens with outside-type are more stable and exhibit more energy absorption capacity compared with the through-type, in column of filled with concrete.

  • This paper represents the behavior of CFT column to H-beam full-scale connection with external T-stiffener. 6 specimens whose T-stiffeners which are compounded of vertical element and horizontal element were made under the parameter of the strength ratio of each elements(vertical element and horizontal element in T-stiffener) to the beam full plastic moment. The analysis-parameters demonstrated in the base of the data that we get in experiment are strength stiffness, and plastic rotational capacity. All of specimen showed stable hysteretic behavior, and the horizontal element is more critical than vertical element in strength and stiffness. The mean beam plastic rotation of all specimen except the TS-2 specimen is 2.97% rad.

  • This paper is a study on the behavior of Concrete-Filled Square Tubular(CFST) column to H-beam connections reinforced with external stiffeners and reinforcing bar. The cyclic loading tests of 5 test specimens were carried out. The main Parameters are as follows; 1)the length of the stiffener: 200mm, 250mm, 2)the diameter of reinforcing bar: HD16, 19. The results of the researches demonstrate that the increase of the stiffener length was more effective than the increase of the area of reinforcing bar in the point of both strength and stiffness. By reinforcing external stiffeners, stable hysteretic behavior was shown and plastic hinge was formed on the beam flange. Cold-formed tube sections should be used carefully to avoid the welding fracture at the round corners of section, and the proposed welding methods are suitable for this connections.

  • The goal of this paper is to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of concrete-filled tubular column to H-beam connection with external T stiffener through the elasto-plastic finite element method and to offer basic data for the design of T stiffener. For the accuracy, analysis results are compared with experimental results. It makes use of several stress and strain indices to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of connection. An alternative plan that decreases the stress concentration of beam flange to horizontal stiffener connection is proposed through the elasto-plastic finite element method.

Analysis of CFT Beam-to-Column Connections with T-Stiffeners (T형 스티프너를 이용한 콘크리트 충전강관 기둥-보 접합부의 해석에 관한 연구)

  • The goal of this paper is to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of concrete-filled tubular column to H-beam connections with external T-stiffener through the finite element method and to offer basic data for the design of T-stiffener. To identify the problems of previous test results, the same shapes of the full-scale test specimens were modeled for the finite element analysis. Results of the analysis were compared with the test results. Several stress and strain indices were used to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of connection with various T-stiffeners parameters. The models of analysis with different T-stiffener are grouped into TS, TSD, and TSH series. An alternative plan that decreases the stress concentration of beam flange to horizontal stiffener connection is proposed through the elasto-plastic finite element method. The basic design idea and minimum sizes of T-stiffener were proposed based on the various indices in relation to the connection details.
