When the steel slag is utilized to the concrete as the alternative fine aggregate, its use is limited as the concrete aggregate because of expansibility caused by much quantity of free CaO. So, this study is intended to examine the characteristics of the concrete which uses the rapidly cooled steel slag whose content of free CaO is sharply reduced by rapidly cooling the steel slag as the fine aggregate. Accordingly, by comparing and considering the results of the concrete slump loss test with the different substitution ratio and fine aggregate ratio of rapidly cooled steel slag, hydration by XRD and SEM analysis, compressive test by age, a length variation test and rapid chloride ion penetration test, the rapidly cooled steel slag's proper substitution ratio and the fine aggregate ratio was derived.

Recycled fine aggregate has low quality because it contains large amount of old mortar. So, its usage is limited to a lower value-add, such as the roadbed material etc. Also, alkaline water occurred from treatment process of the waste concrete is becoming the cause of environmental problem. Accordingly, this study is to develop on the high quality recycled fine aggregate produced by low speed wet abraser using sulphuric. We investigated the properties of compressive strength of the mortar which was manufactured using recycled fine aggregate containing calcined gypsum produced by earlier mentioned process. Test results indicate that mortar using recycled fine aggregate containing calcined gypsum has lowest compressive strength. It seems that low compressive strength is closely associated with the expansion of the specimen by excessive formation of ettringite.
To solve resource exhaustion and waste management problems caused by mass consumption, there are many efforts to change from resource consumption system to recycling system. Specially, interests about management of construction waste have increased, but efficient recycling system of waste concrete is not established yet. In this study, high quality recycled aggregate processing circuit was developed to recycle waste concrete. From the waste concrete which is a hydrated compound with coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, and cement material, high quality recycled coarse aggregate for concrete making was produced by autogenous milling and heat pretreatment method. After then, refinement process was performed to separate fine aggregate and cement material from waste concrete fines by sink float separation and hindered-settling separation. As a result, high quality recycled aggregate was produced from waste concrete by developed processing circuit.

In this study, to suggest an efficient method of using coal gasification slag(CGS), a byproduct from integrated gasification combined cycle(IGCC), as a combined fine aggregate for concrete mixture, the diverse performances of concrete mixtures with combined fine aggregates of CGS, river sand, and crushed sand were evaluated. Additionally, using CGS, the reduction of the hydration heat and the strength developing performance were analyzed to provide a method for reducing the heat of hydration of mass concrete by using combined fine aggregate with CGS and replacing fly ash with cement. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: as a method of recycling CGS from IGCC as concrete fine aggregate, a combination of CGS with crushed sand offers advantages for the concrete mixture. Additionally, when the CGS combined aggregate is used with low-heat-mix designed concrete with fly ash, it has the synergistic effect of reducing the hydration heat of mass concrete compared to the low-heat-designed concrete mixture currently in wide use.
Recently, as industrialization is rapidly growing and the standard of life is rising, the quantities of waste glasses have been hastily increased and most of them are not recycled but abandoned. It cause some problems such as the waste of natural resources and environmental pollution. Therefore, this study was conducted basic experimental research to analyze the possibilities of recycling of waste glasses(crushed waste glasses outbreaking from our country such as amber, emerald-green, flint and mixed) as fine aggregates for concrete. Test results of fresh concrete, slump and compacting factors decrease because grain shape is angular and air content increase due to involving small size particles so much in waste glasses. Also compressive, tensile and flexural strengths decrease with increase of the content of waste glasses. In conclusion, the content of waste glasses below 30% is reasonable and usage of pertinent admixture is necessary to obtain workability and air content.

It is now established that more than two types of blended aggregate have beneficial effects on quality and supply of concrete in the long run. However, studies on blended aggregate have not widely been progressive and the evaluation method of its most favorable mixture proportion is still needed. Therefore this study investigated the most favorable mixture proportion through the physical experiment of fresh and hardened state's cement mortar, in response to three types of composite ratio, natural fine aggregate(Ns), crushed fine aggregate(Cs) and recycled fine aggregate(Rs). Test showed that increase of blending ratio of Ns and Cs improved fluidity of mot1ar. For the properties of compressive and flexural strength, mortar blending Ns and Cs properly, exhibited similar value to one using only Cs, while mortar mixing Rs showed lower strength value as less as 6% of control one. Mortar using only Rs exhibited the largest drying shrinkage value. In addition, even thought it is not a clear quantitative analysis, technical-imaging-skill presenting the most favorable mixture proportion 3-dimensionally is proposed in this research, in order to notify the proportion easily.

To resolve the problem which is demand and supply imbalance of fine aggregate by the shortage of natural fine aggregate and the environment regulations, the studies for the application of recycled fine aggregate made from waste concrete have been recently carried out. The objective of this study is to shed light on the mechanical properties and durability performance of concrete using recycle fine aggregate with various water to cement ratios and unit water contents. And it is intend to propose the fundamental data for structural application of recycled concrete. In particular, the effects according to the variations of water to cement ratios and unit water contents in recycled concrete with recycled fine aggregate replacement of 100 percent are discussed by the test results, such as air content, slump, time of set, compressive strength, tensile strength, carbonation, chloride penetration.

Use of the recycled fine aggregate as a material of structural concrete is not easy currently because there are some problems, such as of quality control and the uncertainty of chemical and physical property. Thus, the results indicate that it is possible to produce high quality recycled fine aggregate for structure by microwave heating technology, friction and abrasion action.

This paper presents mechanical properties and carbonation behavior of the recycled aggregate concretes(RAC) in which natural aggregate was replaced by recycled coarse aggregate and fine aggregate by specified concrete strength levels(21, 35, 50MPa). A total of 18 RAC were produced and classified into six series, each of which included three mixes designed with three specified concrete strength levels of 21MPa, 35MPa and 50MPa and three recycled aggregate replacement ratios of 0, 50 and 100%. Physical and mechanical properties of RAC were tested for slump test, compressive strength, and carbonation depth. The test results indicated that the slump of RAC could be improved or same by recycled coarse aggregate replacement ratios, when compared with natural aggregate. But slump of RAC was decreased as the recycled fine aggregate replacement ratios increase. Also, the test results showed that the compressive strength was decreased as the recycled aggregate replacement ratios increased and it had a conspicuous tendency to decrease when the content of the recycled aggregate exceeded 50%. Furthermore, the result indicated that the measured carbonation depth increases by 40% with the increase of the recycled aggregate replacement. In the case of the concrete having low level compressive strength, the increase of carbonation depth tends to be higher when using the RCA. However, the trend of carbonation resistivity in high level compressive strength concrete is similar to that obtained in natural aggregate concrete. Therefore, an advance on the admixture application and mix ratio control are required to improve the carbonation resistivity when using the recycled aggregate in large scale.
