  • This study was performed to study physical and mechanical properties of hybrid cross laminated timber (HCLT) with plywood as core layer in order to improve its mechanical properties for wooden housing. MOE, MOR, and dimensional stability of the HCLT were determined, depending on plywood composition and lamination direction. MOR value of the HCLT was improved as much as that of the glued laminated timber, which was 59.6% stronger than that of the cross laminated timber (CLT) control group. All MOE values of the HCLT were similar to glued laminated timber structure control group regardless of plywood composition and lamination directions. The dimensional stability of the HCLT was better than those of the glued laminated timber and CLT control group, owing to the use of plywood in the core.

  • The present study aimed to identify the effects of the trunk stability exercise on functional movement, dynamic balance, and trunk stability in patients with chronic low back pain, and to compare the difference among yoga exercise, pilates exercise and core exercise. Forty-three patients with chronic low back pain were divided into three groups; 15 yoga groups, 15 pilates groups, and 13 core exercise groups. All subjects were tested the Functional movement, dynamic balance, and trunk stability using Functional Movement Screen (FMS), Lower Quater Y-Balance Test (YBT-LQ) and Trunk Stability Test (TST), respectively, and after each 8-week exercise program was applied, all variables were retested. After exercising during 8 weeks, FMS, YBT-LQ and TST scores of all three groups were significantly improved, compared to before, but there were no interaction effect among three groups depending on application of exercise program. These results showed that yoga, pilates and core exercise help to improve functional movement, dynamic balance and trunk stability in adults with chronic low back pain.

  • Stability of cut-slope, the orientation and dimension of which are gradually changed, has been analyzed by employing the cross-section method capable of comprehensibly considering the lithological, structural and mechanical characteristics of slope rock. Lithological fragility is investigated by inspecting the drilled core logs and BIPS image has been taken to delineate the rock structure. Engineering properties of drilled-core including the joint shear strength have been also measured. Potential failure modes of cut-slope and failure-induced joints are identified by performing the stereographic projection analysis. Traces of potential failure-induced joints are drawn on the cross-section which depicts the excavated geometry of cut-slope. Considering the distribution of potential plane failure-induced joint traces blocks of plane failure mode are hypothetically formed. The stabilities and required reinforcements of plane failure blocks located at the different excavation depth have been calculated to confirm the applicability of the cross-section method for the optimum cut-slope design.

  • The sandwich shell with Egg-box core has been used for the combustion chamber case of air breathing propulsion system. The alteration on pitch length and thickness of Egg-box core was required to be lighter and save manufacturing time and cost of combustion chamber case. In this paper, the finite element analysis method which simulated bending test was used to predict the equivalent shear modulus which affect structural stability of sandwich shell in short time. The result of FE calculation on sandwich panel with homogeneous material, H130-foam core, showed a good agreement with the values available in the reference. The equivalent shear modulus of Egg-box core according to the variation of pitch length and thickness can be obtained.

  • Polystyrene-poly(etheramic acid) core-shell particles were prepared by dispersion polymerization of styrene using poly(etheramic acid) obtained by the reaction of 2,2'-bis[4-(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy) phenyl]propane dianhydride and 3,5-diamniobenzoic acid as a stabilizer. 4-Vinylbenzyltrimethylammonium chloride was used as a comonomer to increase the binding efficiency of poly(etheramic acid). When the ethanol-water mixture (7 : 3) was used as a reaction medium, particles were stabilized well and the size distribution of particles was fairly narrow. The particle size increased with the amount of styrene. The particles polymerized in the dimethylformamide-water mixture had a broad size range. Polystyrene-poly(etheramic acid) core-shell particles were transformed to polystyrene-polyetherimide core-shell particles by the chemical imidization of shells.

  • A geologic survey of the Bukpyeong and Pohang basins, as candidate basins for the geological storage of $CO_2$, was performed to evaluate storage capacity and security. To analyze the mechanical stability of the storage reservoir and cap rocks, we measured the porosity, seismic velocity, uniaxial strength, internal frictional angle, and Young's modulus of core samples recovered from the two basins. It is costly and sometimes impossible to conduct tests over the entire range of drill holes, and continuous logging data do not yield the mechanical parameters directly. In this study, to derive the mechanical properties of geologic formations from the geophysical logging data, we determined the empirical relations between the physical properties (seismic velocity, porosity, and dynamic modulus) and the mechanical properties (uniaxial strength, internal friction angle) of the core samples. From the comparison with our core test data, the best fits to the two basins were selected from the relations suggested in previous studies. The relations between uniaxial strength, Young's modulus, and porosity of samples from the Bukpyeong and Pohang basins are more consistent with certain rock types than with the locality of the basins. The relations between the physical and mechanical properties were used to estimate the mechanical rock properties of geologic formations from seismic logging data. We expect that the mechanical properties could also be used as input data for a modeling study to understand the mechanical instability of rock formations prior to $CO_2$ injection.

  • Customer Loyalty is very important for a company to be survived and to make profit for a long time. Especially, since the credit card company has to manage proper card members and merchants, the CRM(Customer Relationship Management) is much emphasized. A loyalty score is more essential to credit card companies which provide differential financial services based on card members and merchants than any other companies. In this paper, we discuss behavioral measures to define customer loyalty and suggest a method to make loyalty score with an example of a credit card company. The loyalty score developed is considered easy to understand and simple to apply in card industry. In the development of loyalty score, first, we define the loyal customers and non-loyal customers by measuring variables indicating loyalty. And we perform individual logistic regression by each exploratory measuring variable and obtain the weight of measure variables using Chi-square statistics which is used for model fitness. The loyalty score suggested shows very stable results in terms of PSI (Population Stability Index) as time goes.

  • A core zone of a fill dam is an important part of a dam for cutoff of water. Therefore, the material properties and behavior characteristics of a core zone are very important factors in an analysis of dam stability. However, the investigation on material properties of actual dam core is extremely rare so far. The material properties have been acquired or estimated by indirect methods like a surface wave surveying or empirical equation. In this research, in-situ and laboratory tests were conducted during dismantling an existing dam directly to investigate characteristics of the core zone in terms of the depth and transient variation of properties after construction of the dam. Dynamic material properties like shear wave velocity and shear modulus were measured and compared to other existing empirical correlations. In addition, aging characteristics of dynamic material properties were investigated by a series of laboratory tests.
