  • This study is mixed design to measure the effects of case-based learning and the Cornell notes-taking system in human anatomy course, the basic course in nursing, on self-directed learning ability, critical thinking dispositon, and teamwork of nursing students. Among those who completed anatomy course, 34 underachieving students were targeted and surveyed before and after classes, and interviewed on case-based learning and Cornell notes-taking system. For quantitative analysis, SPSS/WIN 21.0 was used for frequency analysis, paired t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. For qualitative research, content analysis was performed. The results showed significant increases in self-directed learning ability(t=-9.69, p<.001), critical thinking dispositon(t=-7.75, p<.001), and teamwork (t=-12.43, p<.001) in underachieving nursing students. In addition, there was a significant correlation between self-directed learning ability, critical thinking dispositon, and teamwork. In conclusion, case-based and Cornell notes learning methods were effective in helping underachieving students enrolled in human anatomy course. There is a need for continuous research on the use of case-based and Cornell notes in other courses.

  • In this study, we study the effects of note-taking skills on students' academic performance, satisfaction, and concentration, and immersiveness when students are taking online classes. The Cornell note format was used for the note-taking skills. The survey result shows that note-taking skills in online class increase students' diligence, participation, and concentration. We find a strong positive correlation between the number of Cornell note submission and academic performance, and we show that the association between two is a statistically significant by using simple/multiple regression analysis. The multiple regression result shows that one unit increase in the Cornell note submission is associated with the increase in 0.253 midterm score on average. In addition, one unit increase in the Cornell note submission is associated with increase in 0.287 final exam score on average. Further, we conduct bootstrapping regression as a robustness test and show that the results are consistent with the simple/multiple regression results. These analyses show that Cornell note taking skills in online classes can be beneficial for students to improve the quality of their learning.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the effects on the academic achievement and learning motive in mathematics class by use of Cornell-note method at an elementary school. Thus, Cornell-mathematic note is designed for the experiment in order to recognize the effects how the Cornell-note influences students' mathematics academic achievement and learning motive. This experiment was carried out for 13 weeks and the target was 28 students. The group was consisted of 6rd grade students in elementary school located in Busan. To see the effects of Cornell-note method after experiment, post-test was carried out about mathematics academic achievement and learning motive. The results of this study are as follows: There was meaningful difference before and after test about mathematics academic achievement and learning motive. The academic achievement and learning motive in mathematics were improved after Cornell-note applied. Improvement of learning motive caused progress of academic achievement in mathematics class. The Cornell-note way is not appropriate, however, to reinforce mathematical communication ability and to attract students' interest. Therefore, systematic symbol is necessary and consider about adoption of story-telling way.
