  • This study focused to evaluate thermal transmittance(U-value) performance of sliding type of aluminum alloy window frame(AAWF) with double glazing(DG) and glazing spacer and that without thermal breaker in winter and summer season by two dimensional steady state heat transfer analysis. The AAWE was installed to an existing educational facilities in Seosan area which is the southern region of the Korean Peninsula. Analysis of 2D steady-state heat transfer was performed through the use of BISCO as calculation and simulation program. U-value and temperature factors were calculated. The results are as followed. First, the isotherm simulation shows that AAWF with double glazing have serious differences from recently proposed window thermal performance standards such as Insulation Performance of Windows and Doors of Building Energy Saving Design Standards and the results of calculation of thermal transmittance performance of AAWF and DG are U=9.631 W/$m^2K$, U=2.382 W/$m^2K$ respectively during winter and summer season. Second, the results of analysis of heat transfer analysis, calculated by simulation, shows that 225% of heat is lost comparing with thermal performance standards U=4.0 W/$m^2K$ of general double glazing among those standards on AAWF without thermal breaker.

  • This study was conducted to quantify a carbon budget of major vegetation types established in the campus of the National Institute of Ecology (NIE). Carbon budget was measured for Pinus thunbergii and Castanea crenata stands as the existing vegetation. Net Primary Productivity (NPP) was determined by applying allometric method and soil respiration was measured by EGM-4. Heterotrophic respiration was calculated as 55% of total respiration based on the existing results. Net Ecosystem Production (NEP) was determined by the difference between NPP and heterotrophic respiration (HR). NPPs of P. thunbergii and C. crenata stands were shown in $4.9ton\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ and $5.3ton\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$, respectively. Heterotrophic respirations of P. thunbergii and C. crenata stands were shown in $2.4ton\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ and $3.5ton\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$, respectively. NEPs of P. thunbergii and C. crenata stands were shown in $2.5ton\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ and $1.8ton\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$, respectively. Carbon absorption capacity for the whole set of vegetation types established in the NIE was estimated by applying NEP indices obtained from current study and extrapolating NEP indices from existing studies. The value was shown in $147.6ton\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ and it was calculated as $541.2ton\;CO_2ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ converted into $CO_2$. This function corresponds to 62% of carbon emission from energy that NIE uses for operation of various facilities including the glass domes known in Ecorium. This carbon offset capacity corresponds to about five times of them of the whole national territory of Korea and the representative rural area, Seocheongun. Considered the fact that ongoing climate change was originated from imbalance of carbon budget at the global level, it is expected that evaluation on carbon budget in the spatial dimension reflected land use pattern could provide us baseline information being required to solve fundamentally climate change problem.

  • This study researched those universities for which fence opening and greening projects are being conducted by Seoul city. The forms of opened fences at 24 universities which have accomplished this project were classified into several types for each type of university, representative cases with many diverse facilities and active users were selected and investigated. The study was carried out using methods of field observations, literature review, and surveys. To maintain the confidentiality of the collected questionnaire analysis, the analysis of each type's usage frequency, overall satisfaction and a regression analysis with space environment and facilities, a one-way ANOVA for was used to validate the difference between types regarding satisfaction with the project. The results of usage type analysis were found to agree with the 3 analysis criteria-- installation location, user characteristics, and usage purpose--which were the legislative concepts. In overall satisfaction with facilities, it appeared that except for Seoul Women's College of Nursing with its rural district neighborhood type park, users were satisfied: with the small urban neighborhood park of Methodist Theological College, Konkuk University's small urban square park, and Sejong University's green space small city park. In general, users appeared to not have satisfaction with such features as fountains / hydroponic facilities, fitness facilities, and square facilities, which should be taken into consideration when pursuing further opening and greening projects. Regarding full satisfaction with the space environment, it was found that users were not satisfied with Seoul Women's College of Nursing's rural district neighborhood-style park, whereas they were satisfied with Methodist Theological College's small urban neighborhood park, Konkuk University's small urban square-style park, and Sejong University's green space small city park. In addition, it was shown that facilities use, convenience and privacy of the four parks were largely unsatisfactory for users, and that the small city parks located at roadsides were unsatisfactory regarding noise level, both of which should be most highly considered when conducting similar projects in the future.

  • This case study deal with the investigation of various causes and analyses concerning the cases of the collapse of reinforced segmental retaining walls installed for newly constructing a peripheral road within the campus of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ University located in Gyeonggi-do. As results of stability analyses and reviewing of design documents concerning collapsed reinforced segmental retaining walls, such a collapse appeared because of problems related to construction including poor-compacted backfill, the omission of the investigation on the bearing capacity, the length and space in the installation of reinforced materials, and drainage systems. Also, problems during diverse types of designing were confirmed involving the stability analysis of the entire slope stability to be considered during designing and failure in application of the proposed methods of FHWA or NCMA which are generally used for two-tier reinforced segmental retaining walls. In addition, based on these details of the stability assessment, the study proposed reinforcement solutions and construction methods for stabilizing reinforced segmental retaining walls to be reconstructed in the future.

  • FOD refers to various metals and non-metallic foreign substances that pose a risk to aircraft. FODs occur in all areas and time zones, including runways, taxiways, and maintenance facilities, and pose a fatal hazard to aircraft safety during aircraft movements and take-off and landing. Rapid and effective detection and removal of FODs in the runway is required. As part of recent developments in aviation safety technologies, automatic detection of debris in runways in airports is under way. In this paper, we conducted an automated detection test using the EO/IR camera and radar at the Taean campus of Hansu University to confirm normal detection during the day and night.

  • The importance and utilization of underground spatial is increasing due to urban concentration. And so underground spatial information is being built. Because underground spatial information is an important NSDI (National Spatial Data Infrastructure), the accuracy and performance of underground spatial exploration devices used for construction are managed separately. In accordance with the laws and regulations related to spatial information, the government is conducting performance tests for underground facilities surveying equipment. The current performance test site mainly targets metal pipelines, and there is no absolute position surveying inspection system. In this study, test bed model for performance inspection of underground space exploration equipment was presented. The test bed presented in this study can be used as a test site to supplement the limitations of the existing domestic test bed and to verify the performance of the latest equipment.

  • The product to be developed in this study is a heat recovery device which generates steam or hot water at high temperature and high pressure by heating water using exhaust gas from diesel engine, gas engine, gas turbine, etc. as an exhaust gas boiler off heat boiler(EGB) type for ship and power generation. The steam vapor or the created warm water is used as the power source required for the steerage heating and hot water facility or the HFO heating of the ship, and the turbine drive. The principle of waste heat boilers serves to heat water as high temperature exhaust gas with heat pass through the tube of the boiler. The heated water is a structure that is sent to a cabin or turbine device in the form of steam. In this study, the objective of this study is to maximize the efficiency by increasing the heat transfer surface by replacing the tube which is the heat transfer part of EGB with the plate tube.

  • The objective of this study is to establish the greenhouse gases (GHG) inventories and estimate the GHG reduction plans for Daegu University from 2009 to 2011. The annual average of GHG emissions in Daegu University was estimated to be 19,413 ton $CO_2$ eq during the study period. Emissions of electricity usage in Scope 2 most contributed about 55.4% of the total GHG emissions. Also, GHG emissions of Scope 2, Scope 1, and Scope 3 contributed 60.4%, 22.6%, and 17.0%, respectively. In order to estimate reduction potential of GHG, the Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning (LEAP) model was calculated using three scenarios such as sensor installation, LED replacement, and solar facility. The GHG will be reduced by 1,656 ton $CO_2$ eq for LED scenario, by 1,041 ton $CO_2$ eq for sensor scenario, and by 737 ton $CO_2$ eq for solar scenario compared to 2020 business as usual (BAU). Therefore, the total GHG emissions in 2020 apply three scenarios can be reduced by 15% compared with 2020 BAU.
