The carbamates are a group of insecticides derived from carbamic acid, with a broad spectrum of uses as agricultural and household garden insecticides. Carbamate insecticides are reversible cholinesterase inhibitors. Their inhibitory action is mediated by reversible carbamylation of acetylcholine, as with the organophosphate insecticides. Carbamates are absorbed by the body through multiple routes, including inhalation, ingestion, and dermal absorption. Although poisoning can result from occupational exposure or accidental ingestion, in most cases there is suicidal intent. This is particularly true in developing countries, where the highest incidence of morbidity and mortality from this cause occurs. Cardiac complications often accompany poisoning by carbamate compounds, which may be serious and often fatal. The extent, frequency, and pathogenesis of cardiac toxicity from carbamate compounds has not been clearly defined. Possible mechanismsinclude sympathetic and parasymphatetic overactivity, hypoxemia, acidosis, electrolyte derangements, and a direct toxic effect of the compounds on the myocardium. Patients with carbamate poisoning should immediately be transferred to an intensive or coronary care unit where appropriate monitoring and resuscitative facilities are available. We here report a case of acute coronary syndrome resulting from acute carbamate ingestionthat resulted in a healthy discharge.
The diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella L.) was selected over 24 generations with fenvalerate. The resulting resistant strain was tested to study development of insecticide resistance and cross resistance to some insecticides in the laboratory. Insecticide resistance of diamondback moth at the 24th generation devleoped 66.2 fold compared to the parent strain for fenvalerate. The fenvalerate selected strain exhibited 145 fold, a high level of cross resistance to deltamethrin, and also showed 17.4-45.0 fold cross resistance to alphamethrin, cypermethrin, fenvalerate, permethrin, and tetramethrin in the pyrethroid insecticides. The fenvalerate selected strain showed 2.5-4.3 fold, low cross resistance to diazinon, dichlorvos, EPN, BPMC, cabaryl, and methomyl. However, it did not show cross resistance to acephate, fenitrothion, phenthoate, and carbofuran.
Organic azides were reduced to organic amines in the presence of tetracarbonylhydridoferrate(O) as a highly selective reducing agent at room temperature under carbon monoxide atmosphere. Particularly, benzoylazide gave ethylphenylcarbamate at room temperature but gave benzamide quantitatively at -40$^{\circ}$ in the presence of tetracarbonylhydridoferrate under carbon monoxide atmosphere.
Esterase isozymes were extracted from final instar larvae of M. saltuarius treated with selective diets and inhibitors. Twenty esterase isozymes were separated on 12% native-PAGE gel and stained with three different substrates(${\alpha}$-naphthyl acetate, ${\beta}$-naphthyl acetate, or ${\alpha}$-naphthyl butyrate). Interestingly, the isozymes of Est7(${\alpha}$-naphthyl acetate and ${\alpha}$-naphthyl butyrate) and Est6(${\beta}$-naphthyl acetate) were specifically activated in final instar larvae fed with the bark of Pinus koraiensis. However, we could not find any band from substrate ${\beta}$-naphthyl stearate. The esterase activities of Est3, Est6, and Est7 were inhibited by organophosphate and carbamate insecticides. In addition, The esterase activities of Est4, Est6, and Est7 were also inhibited by eserine. However, inhibition of esterase activities in methoprene, bornyl acetate, linal, cineol, and citral was not observed. However, It is necessary to reconfirm these results in vivo.
Ag/polystyrene(PS) nanocomposites were prepared by in situ reduction of silver 2-ethylhexylcarbamate (Ag-CB) complex and follwing radical polymerization only by heating at 110 $^{\circ}C$. In contrast to this conventional heating method, the microwave irradiation afforded well-dispersed silver nanoparticles(NPs) in styrene monomer without polymerization. The synthesis of Ag NPs proceeded uniformly throughout the reaction vessel only under microwave irradiation, completing the reaction simultaneously in the whole reaction solution. Successive polymerization of the monomer containing the resultant NPs has successfully produced a hybrid of the silver NPs dispersed in PS matrix. Ag/PS (0.1/100) nanocomposites were prepared successfully by melt-mixing process using Ag/PS(4.0/100) as a master-batch. UV-VIS spectroscopy, TEM, and X-ray diffraction techniques were used to investigate the process of formation of Ag/PS nanocomposites.

Urea solution as a reductant of SCR has been widely used to reduce NOx emissions from diesel engine. But it has lots of problems which are freezing at low temperature due to liquid state, deposition of solid formation in the exhaust, dosing device, and complex package such as mixers for uniform concentration of ammonia. In order to overcome these obstacle, ammonium carbonate which is one of solid ammonium materials to produce ammonia gas directly by sublimation process is considered. Simple reactor with visible widow was designed to predict equilibrium temperature and pressure of ammonium carbonate. To simulate real operation conditions under automobile environment, several cycles of heating and cooling condition were settled, two different re-solidification materials were extracted from the reactor and visible window. Analytical study is performed to characterize these unknown materials by XRD(X-Ray Diffraction), FT-IR(Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), and EA(Elemental Analyzer). From analytical results, re-solidification materials from heating and cooling cycles are very similar to original material of ammonium carbonate.

Purpose: Atropine is an antidote used to relieve muscarinic symptoms in patients with organophosphate and carbamate poisoning. Nutritional support via the enteral nutrition (EN) route might be associated with improved clinical outcomes in critically ill patients. This study examined the administration of nutritional support in patients undergoing atropinization, including methods of supply, outcomes, and complications. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary care teaching hospital from 2010 to 2018. Forty-five patients, who were administered with atropine and on mechanical ventilation (MV) due to organophosphate or carbamate poisoning, were enrolled. Results: Nutritional support was initiated on the third day of hospitalization. Thirty-three patients (73.3%) were initially supported using parenteral nutrition (PN). During atropinization, 32 patients (71.1%) received nutritional support via EN (9) or PN (23). There was no obvious reason for not starting EN during atropinization (61.1%). Pneumonia was observed in both patient groups on EN and PN (p=0.049). Patients without nutritional support had a shorter MV duration (p=0.034) than patients with nutritional support. The methods of nutritional support during atropinization did not show differences in the number of hospital days (p=0.711), MV duration (p=0.933), duration of ICU stay (p=0.850), or recovery at discharge (p=0.197). Conclusion: Most patients undergoing atropinization were administered PN without obvious reasons to preclude EN. Nutritional support was not correlated with the treatment outcomes or pneumonia. From these results, it might be possible to choose EN in patients undergoing atropinization, but further studies will be necessary.
A multiresidue method(MRM) for pesticides must be rapid and must test a wide variety of pesticides at relevant toxicological concentrations. In this study, three kinds of major analytical methods such as Korean Food Code Method, CDFA MRM, and Holstege's method are tested to compare the average recoveries, solvent consumption, and required time for the analysis of 18 organochlorines, 18 organophosphates, and 6 carbamates in spinach samples. Samples for pesticides analysis were extracted and cleaned up according to the respective methods and detected by gas chromatography with selective detectors, ECD and NPD, HPLC with postcolumn reaction system(PCRS). Average recovery of 42 pesticides by Korean Food Code method, CDFA method, and Holstege's method were 91.3%, 88.1%, 89.0%, respectively. Amount of solvent consumption and required time for the analysis of Korean Food Code method were from two and a half times to three times as much as those of another two methods. For the development and legal application of more rapid and effective MRMs, prolonged study is necessary.
Ginseng (the root of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer, Araliaceae) has been used for traditional medicine in China, Korea, Japan and other Asian countries. It is most often used as a general tonic, and it involves a wide range of pharmacological actions, such as antiaging, adaptogen-like effect to foreign deleterious infringement, immunoenhancement, antistress, antitumor, and antioxidant actions. Red ginseng showed anticarcinogenic activity against various chemical carcinogens in mouse and cancer-preventive effect of human being as on mice in experimental and epidemiological studies. In the present study, we have found the protective properties of red ginseng against vinyl carbamate (VC) which is the proximate carcinogen of ethyl carbamate and its ultimate carcinogenic epoxides. Red ginseng exhibited dose-dependent inhibition on the mutagenci activities of boty VC in the presence of S9 mix and vinyl carbamate epoxide (VCO) without metabolic activation in Salmonella typhimurium TA1535. Formation of DNA adducts from VCO was also attenuated in the presence of red ginseng. Oral administration of red ginseng prior to the topical application of each of the above carcinogens and TPA treatment resulted in significant reduction in both incidence and multiplicity of skin tumors in mice. These results indicate that red ginseng possesses a strong chemopreventive effect against mouse skin carcinogenesis induced by VC or VCO.
