Methods: The subjects were 480 students of four middle schools in Y region. This is a cross sectional study and the study instrument was adapted from the knowledge, attitude and practice of hand washing and toothbrushing in elementary school students by Jung. Cronbach's alpha was 0.87 in the study. The questionnaire consisted of 5 questions of the general characteristics of the subjects, 5 questions of hand washing knowledge, 3 questions of hand washing behavior, 3 questions of health education experience. Toothbrushing questionnaire consisted of 10 questions of knowledge, 5 questions of behavior, 5 questions of health education experience, and 5 questions of dental health care facilities within schools. Data were analyzed by PASW 20.0 program. Results: Toothbrushing more than three times a day accounted for 76.8%. Those who receiving health education in elementary school accounted for 41.5% and those who had not accounted for 58.5%. Health education experience(75.8%) led to toothbrushing after meal(p<0.05). Those who receiving health education in elementary schools had 1.76 times of toothbrushing after meal than those who had not(p<0.01). Conclusions: Middle school students receiving health education had a tendency to do toothbrushing and hand washing frequently.

  • This study aimed to provide basic data for oral health promotion in adults by analyzing causal relationships for oral health practice determinants. A total of 204 questionnaires obtained from adults living in Busan and Gyeongnam area were analyzed to verify the study model with the Smart PLS v2.0 M2 software. Among oral health belief factors, the severity of and susceptibility to oral disease and benefit of oral care behavior affected oral health-related self-efficacy. The self-efficacy on ordinary oral health care behavior significantly affected overall oral health practice. The severity of and susceptibility to oral disease and benefit of oral disease prevention behavior affected toothbrushing habit and oral examination and training through toothbrushing-related self-efficacy. Therefore, the increased oral health-related self-efficacy through strategic efforts, including various training media development, with improved awareness of oral health belief by continuous oral health care program development will lead to continuous oral health practice in adults.

The M. bass method shows much greater effect of halitosis amongst 3 kind of method. PI for Self test method and Tooth pick method show decreasing effect. Decreasing effect during education shows until 2nd week by 3 kind of method, but it shows no differences after 3rd week. VSC(ppb) for M. bass method and Tooth pick method show decreasing effect. Decreasing effect during education shows after 3rd week by 3 kind of method, but it shows no differences until 2nd week. PHP for Self test method, M. bass method and Tooth pick method show decreasing effect after 2nd week during education. But, there is no differences of decreasing effect by among 3 kind of method. Conclusions : This study reports that it is necessary to carry outt further studies on the improvement of oral health management of adults based on the development of oral health education.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sedentary time on quality of life and oral health-related behaviors using the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 19,983 data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 25.0 program, and complex sample logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the effect of sedentary time on health-related quality of life and oral health-related behaviors. As a result, the longer the sitting time, the worse the quality of life (p<.05). There was an increase in the number of cases of not brushing (p<.05). Also, as for dental treatment, the longer the sitting time, the more prophylactic treatment and periodontal treatment increased (p<.05). Therefore, it is judged that it can be used as basic data to improve the quality of life and increase oral health-related behaviors in consideration of the socio-demographic characteristics of prolonged sedentary time.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the convergence related factors of subjective oral care awareness in high school students. 218 data were analyzed; subjective oral care awareness were $3.59{\pm}0.44$, significantly affected by religion, intake of fast food and carbonated drink(p<.05). According to analysis, students who stated reasons for halitosis as 'Tooth brushing to eliminate bad breath' and 'Friends bad breath are discomfort' showed high subjective oral care awareness, however, it was low when students were not aware of their bad breath. Therefore, increasing tooth brushing frequency and reducing the intake of carbonated drink and junk food are needed to boost subjective oral care awareness. Also, it is considered that educational contents and materials for factors which affects subjective oral care awareness should be developed for high school student's Oral health education class.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for gingivitis management programs by dental hygienists by evaluating the effect of oral health education, oil pulling, and professional toothbrushing on gingivitis. Methods: A total of 38 subjects were divided into three groups: control group (12 subjects), experimental group 1 (13 subjects), and experimental group 2 (13 subjects). The control and experimental groups were instructed to brush using the rotating method. Distilled water was provided to the control group after training. Coconut oil was provided every morning for about 10 minutes. In the experimental group 2, a professional brushing method was used at each visit. Results: There were no significant differences in oral health among the three groups, and there was homology between patient hygiene performance (PHP) index (p=0.144) and bleeding rate (p=0.213). The PHP index showed a significant interaction between the group and measurement time. The control and experimental groups showed changes in the PHP index with time (F=3.711; p=0.013). The bleeding rate showed a significant interaction between the group and measurement period. The control and experimental groups showed changes in the bleeding rate with time (F=6.707; p<0.001). Conclusions: Oral health education, professional toothbrushing, and oil pulling specialists in oral care of gingivitis were effective in managing gingivitis. It is necessary to educate people on self-management methods for oral health promotion using gingivitis management programs by dental hygienists.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of body-shape perception and periodontal diseases in female adolescents based on the sixth 3rd-year(2015) data of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The subjects in this study were 211 female teenagers who were at the western ages of 12 to 18. As a result of analyzing, it's found that the body-shape perception of the female teens were linked to age, sleep hours, BMI, weight control and toothbrushing frequency, and whether they had periodontal diseases or not was found to be under the influence of age, smoking, sleep hours, stress, BMI and toothbrushing frequency. When the relationship between their body-shape perception and peridontal diseases was analyzed by controlling the confounders, the adolescents who considered their own bodies to be obese suffered from 3.18-fold more periodontal diseases(OR=3.18, 95% CI: 1.21, 8.38) than the teenagers who considered their body shape to be average. In the future, oral health care should be provided in consideration of the mental health of female adolescents to prevent periodontal diseases.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of diabetes on periodontal disease according to oral health behavior. The date from the 2013-2015 Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey were used, and 14,282 subjects were included in the analysis. Periodontal disease was assessed using the Community Periodontal Index and using logistic regression. When all of the oral health behaviors were included in the model, tooth brushing frequency, flossing, and interdental brushing were significantly associated with periodontal disease, and periodontal disease risk was significantly higher with diabetes, but there was little difference in periodontal disease risk by input factors. Oral health behaviors were associated with periodontal disease in the normal blood glucose group but not in the presence of diabetes mellitus. If there is diabetes, it is difficult to manage periodontal disease by only the health behavior, so it is necessary to control blood sugar.
