  • In our study, we investigated self-evaluation of tongue coating, self-rating intensity of oral malodor, habit related to tooth brushing and tongue scraping. Investigation was carried out on 714 Korean college students by method of self-reporting to prepared questionnaire. The obtained data were processed and analyzed with SAS program. The results of this study are as follows. 1. Students who have frequently experienced tongue coating have tendency to have stronger oral malodor than the other students. 2. The self-reporting prevalence rate of oral malodor is 81.1%. 3. Students who brush teeth shortly and irregularly have tendency to have stronger oral malodor than the other students. 4. Students with strong oral malodor have tendency to neglect scraping tongue. 5. Students with low index of tooth brushing or low index of oral hygiene controllability have tendency to have stronger oral malodor than the other students. 6. Mean scales of tooth brushing index(p<.0001), tongue scraping index(p=0.0439) and oral hygiene controllability index(p<.0001) among students in the department of Dental Hygiene and Dental Technology are significantly higher than those among general students.

The subjects of study were 401 preschool children, 214 boys and 187 girls, from 36 to 71 months old of randomly selected seven nurseries in Iksan city. The prevalence of maxillary primary anterior teeth was cross-analyzed with gender, age, breast feeding or bottle feeding, length of feeding, sweet snack intake frequency, beginning of toothbrushing, and toothbrushing frequency per day. The prevalence was 43.0% in boys and 26.7% in girls, and there was significant association between the prevalence and gender in cross analysis(P<0.01). The prevalences of the shorter than 2 years of feeding group, the from 2 to 3 years group, and the longer than 3 years group were 31.0%, 43.2%, and 63.2%, respectively, and there was significant association between the prevalence and the length of feeding(P<0.01). Daily intake of sweet snacks had a significant association with the prevalence(P<0.05). There was no significant association between the prevalence and the variables of age, breast feeding or bottle feeding, beginning of toothbrushing, and toothbrushing frequency per day(P>0.05).

  • The present study was designed to grasp the oral health behavior practice levels and PHP index and gingival index of orthodontic patients' orthodontic related characteristics. A survey and oral examination were conducted for 206 orthodontic patients with fixed appliances. The collected data were analyzed with a t-test, one way ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression. Women were higher than men of the toothbrushing parts(p<0.05), toothbrushing frequency(p=0.001) and use of more oral hygiene products(p<0.01). As for the use of more oral hygiene products practice, it has higher when experience of more education(p<0.05), toothbrushing method practice difference when it comes to age(p<0.05). As for toothbrushing times, difference was purpose of orthodontics(p<0.05) and period of orthodontics(p<0.05) and orthodontics equipment(p<0.05). As for orthodontic equipment, conventional-ligating bracket high score compared to the self-ligating bracket with Buccal PHP index(p<0.001) and gingival index(p<0.05). The factors with lowest possible Buccal PHP index; when age is greater(p<0.05), toothbrushing method practice is higher(p<0.001) and when patients have self-ligating bracket(p<0.001). Education for the orthodontic patients on the oral health behavior practice should be carried out structurally to the group of patients who are 17 years old or younger, to the group with conventional-ligating bracket and to the men. • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between entrance exam stress and oral care self-efficacy in girls high school. From June to July 2018, A self-reported questionnaire was administered to 192 high school students in the G area. The data were analyzed for independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient by using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Among the sub-sectors of entrance exam stress, exam tension/poor was the highest with 3.07 points, followed by Insufficient spare time stress 2.83 points, future uncertainty stress 2.57 points, and parent pressure stress 2.44 points. the variables related to exam tension/poor stress were academic performance (p<.01), family income level (p<.05), Subjective oral health status(p<.05), and daily brushing frequency(p<.01). The highest level of oral care self-efficacy was 3.13 points for brushing self-efficacy, followed by dental visits 2.80 points and interdental hygiene 2.64 points. As a result of analyzing the general characteristics and oral care self-efficacy, subjects related to brushing self-efficacy were subjective oral health status, caries snacking(daily), and caries drinks(daily)(p<.01). There were negative correlations between entrance exam stress and oral care self-efficacy. The higher the entrance stress, the lower the oral care self-efficacy. To prevent oral disease and increase oral care self-efficacy of students with high entrance stress, it is necessary to provide school oral health education programs that can facilitate oral health behaviors.
