A large volume of uranium electrokinetic leachate has been generated during the electrokinetic decontamination to remove uranium from contaminated soil. The treatment technology for the reuse of the uranium leachate was developed. The concentration of uranium in the generated uranium leachate was 180 ppm and concentrations of Mg(II), K(I), Fe(II), and Al(III) ions ranged from 20 ppm to 1,210 ppm. The treatment process for uranium leachate consisted mainly of mixing and cohesion, precipitation, concentration, and filtration. In order to obtain the pH=11 of a precipitate solution, the calcium hydroxide needs to be 3.0g/100ml and the sodium hydroxide needed to be 2.7g/100ml. The results of several precipitation experiments showed that a mixture of NaOH+0.2g alum+0.15g magnetite was an optimal precipitant for filtration. The average particle size of precipitate with NaOH+alum+0.15g magnetite was $600\;{\mu}m$. Because the total value of metal concentrations in supernatant at pH=9 was the smallest, sodium hydroxide should be added with 0.2g alum and 0.15g magnetite for pH=9 of leachate.
In order to characterize relationship between accumulation of cadmium, zinc and lead in soil and soil chemical properties and also to choose a suitable soil extractant for the prediction model of heavy metal content in brown rice, four extractants-0.1 M HCl, 0.1 M $HNO_3$, 0.1 M $NH_4-oxalate$ and 0.001 M 2Na-EDTA, were compared by analyzing 84 soil samples collected from paddy fields adjacent to five zinc-minig sites. Contents of Cd, and Pb in soil increased with Zn content and those of three elements were found to be much higher in surface soil ($0{\sim}15 cm$) than suvsqrface soil ($15{\sim}30 cm$). Contents of these elements in soil were positively correlated with soil pH, but its correlation between extractable heavy metal content and organic matter or CEC varied from region to region. These three elements were negatively correlated with Mg content of soils. The extractability of the metals was in the order 0.1 M $HCI{\geq}0.1 M$$HNO_3>0.001 M$ 2Na-EDTA>0.1 M $NH_4-oxalate$.
In order to utilize incineration fly ash of industrial wastes as resources, we present the recovery and separation of metals included in the fly ash by leaching with aqueous solution A great quantity of Cu, Pb, and Zn as well as a small amount oftoxic heavy metals are contained in the leach liquor of the fly ash, and the concentration of the ingredients of the fly ash depends on the industrial wastes which are fed into incinerators. In this paper, sequential Ieachiog operations are conducted using $H_2O$, $H_2SO_4$, $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ and NaOH as Icachants. Water soluble copper salt was leached by $H_2O$, Zn and Pb were separated by the NaOH leach liquor, and water insoluble copper was selectively leached as chelate ion with the $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ leach liquor of the third Ieaehant. Results show that the reduction percent of the fly ash in the leaching steps using $H_2O$, $H_2SO_4$, and $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ is 77%, and the other leaching procedures lose the weight of fly ash by above 60%.
Growth of 6-year old 'Niitaka' pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) trees and control of insect and disease occurrences were compared between fermented soybean extracts and rain-shelter system for two years. Foliar application of fermented soybean extracts was applied at 6 times as a pre-experiment in the open-field in 2013, with a rain-shelter system in 2014. Fermented soybean extract treatment increased foliar concentrations of approximately 0.46% T-N, 0.17% K, 0.19% Ca, and 0.06% Mg in 2013 compared to the control, with similar macro-nutrients between the control and soybean extract treatment observed in 2014. Rain-shelter system increased foliar concentrations of T-N, Ca, and Mg compared to the open-field. There were no significantly different between the control and soybean extract treatment for number of leaves per fruit, leaf dry weight, phytotoxicity, and completed shoot growth on August during the two years. Rain-shelter system increased leaf dry weight and did not affect phytotoxicity in the leaves. Fruit quality parameters were mostly similar to control and soybean extract treatment for two years, with higher fruit firmness observed for soybean extract treatment. Rain-shelter system advanced 4 days of harvest dates, and increased approximately 7.0 ton fruit yield per ha, 20 g mean fruit weight, and fruit soluble solid contents compared to open-field in 2014. Soybean extract treatment little suppressed occurrence of disease and insect on the leaves and fruits in both years. Rain-shelter system increased occurrence of Venturia nashicola on the leaves and to 63.8% of Gymnosporangium asiaticum on the fruits in 2014. Strong winds and storms in May elevated relative humidity in the rain-shelter system and caused high infection of the disease occurrence, requiring for an additional green control method. Soybean extract treatment little affected tree growth and would have initiated for a long-term study to evaluate tree physiological characteristics. Rain-shelter system improved fruit productivity and advanced harvest dates, which could have been more effective facility at a Thanks Giving Day between middle and end of September.
A process has been studied to recover gallium from steelmaking dust which had several hundreds ppm of gallium. Aqueous solution containing 38 mg/l gallium was obtained by leaching of dust with 2.25 mol/l sulfuric acid. The leach liquor contained iron and zinc about 1,000 times greater than gallium. Gallium was then concentrated by ion exchanger of chelating resin with functional group of amino carboxylic acid after reduction of ferric ion to ferrous ion and pH adjustment. Gallium was concentrated to be 13 g/l in the resulting eluate by double ion exchanges. The liquor was further treated to remove impurities by solvent extraction technique empolying TOMAC as extractant. The galluim with 99% purity was finally obtainable.
Korean medicinal herbs -sasam, gilkyung, jakyak, danggwi, hwangki and chunkung were soaked to the distillate of Korean rice wine for 75 days. The alcohol concentration of distillate, soaking media was adjusted to 45, 35, and 25% respectively with distilled water. Changes in alcohol concentration, pH, optical density, concentration of peoniflorin and decursin were analyzed. Quality of the final product was determined by sensory evaluation. Alcohol concentration was rapidly decreased but pH increased in 15 days and thereafter they showed slow decrease. Decrease of alcohol concentration was affected by the kind of herb and alcohol concentration of soaking media. The strongest effect was observed from danggwi and low alcohol concentration. Concentration of paeoniflorin and decursin, an index component of jakyak and danggwi respectively, showed the similar trend of decrease after increase to maximum concentration. From the sensory evaluation, the best overall quality was obtained from liquors made from 45% alcohol concentration. The quality was decreased in the order of sasam, jakyak, chunkung and hwanggi.

Mn was extracted by using a nitric acid from the reduced ferromanganese dust and the basic experiments were taken to refine the manganese nitrate solution by means of precipitation of Ca, Mg oxalate. The dust was generated in AOD process producing a medium-low carbon ferromanganese and collected in the bag filter. Manganese oxide content in the dust was about 90% and its phase was confirmed as $Mn_3$$O_4$. $Mn_3$$O_4$ in the dust was reduced to MnO by roasting with activated charcoal. The main impurities in the extracted solution prepared by leaching the reduced dust with nitric acid were Na, K, Fe, Si, Ca, Mg etc. Among them, Fe was removed by controlling pH of the solution more than 4 and precipitating $Fe(OH)_3$, simultaneously silicious material solved in the solution was removed by co-precipitation with the ferric hydroxide. Addition of 150 g reduced dust into 4N HNO3 solution 1$\ell$ was appropriate to control the pH of the solution to pH 4. To differ greatly the solubilities of manganese oxalate and calcium or magnesium oxalate in a solution containing a high concentration of Mn, pH of 4 or less and addition of ($NH_4$)$_2$$C_2$$O_4$ in equivalent with Ca and Mg are recommended. At this time, the higher temperature was the shorter the precipitation reaction time was needed.
Fundamental study has been made on the recovery of copper from the electronic scrap by hydrometallurgical process. Nitric acid was used as a leaching agent to dissolve the metals such as Cu, Sn, Pb, Fe etc. from the crushed electronic scraps. TBP was employed to extract nitric acid from the strong nitric acid leaching solutions and to reclaim nitric acid. From the experimental results, Cu was effectively leached by 3.0-4.0 M nitric acid. And 95% of nitric acid in the leaching solution was extracted by 60% TBP, and 98% of nitric acid was stripped from the loaded organic phase by distilled water and it was possible to reuse as a leaching agent.

Efforts are currently underway to develop a method for efficiently recovering lithium from the cathode material of waste lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP). The successful application of lithium battery recycling can address the regional ubiquity and price volatility of lithium resources, while also mitigating the environmental impact associated with both waste battery material and lithium production processes. The isomorphic substitution leaching process was used to recover lithium from spent lithium iron phosphate batteries. Lithium was leached by the isomorphic substitution of Fe2+ in LFP using a relatively inexpensive ferric chloride etching solution as a leaching agent. In the study, the leaching rate of lithium was compared using the ferric chloride etching solution at various multiples of the LFP molar ratio: 0.7, 1.0, 1.3, and 1.6 times. The highest lithium leaching rate was shown at about 98% when using 1.3 times the LFP molar ratio. Subsequently, to eliminate Fe, the leachate was treated with NaOH. The Fe-free solution was then used to synthesize lithium carbonate, and the harvested powder was characterized and validated. The surface shape and crystal phase were analyzed using SEM and XRD analysis, and impurities and purity were confirmed using ICP analysis.
